Redfish and Specks in Venice - Out With The Old, In With The NEW YEAR!!

Great Way to Ring in the New Year...

Bob Hernandez and his dad John wanted to end 2008 on a good note and called me to arrange a trip to target redfish and speckled trout. Bob told me he had only two requests -- for John to get a hand getting in and out of the boat and to "catch alot of fish". After hearing their wishes, I decided Capt. Larry Stinson would be a perfect match, and set up their date.

The guys drove in the morning of the trip from Baton Rouge but somehow took a wrong turn (or two) and got lost near Belle Chasse for an hour or so. It didn't matter as the fog was pretty thick. Capt. Larry assisted John into the boat and they were off after the fog lifted. The first couple of stops yeilded nothing, but the third one was a charm.

First it was redfish and big ones to boot. The guys tussled with bull reds, including a a couple of 40-pound brusiers which they released. Then it was on to the speckled trout area.

John called me today and said, "Susan, I just had to call and tell you that I caught so many fish and Capt. Larry was a real gentleman."

"He really knows how to have fun and I was treated like a king," Hernandez added.

The Hernandez' are still eating specks and enjoying the bounty of their day of inshore fishing in Venice and said they are saving up for another trip this summer.

Fishing is good in the winter although bookings are a bit sluggish this time of year. If you would like to catch some quality fish and make a few memories with friends, family or co-workers, just give me a call and I'll arrange a trip to remember.

Best Fishes for a Great New Year!
