Are you talking about the old yellow and white bristle tail rigs?

These are as close as I can find. (I added the photos to your post) I do have a few original ones that were in a tackle box from my grandfather. Shad rigs and a flare on the rigs were a deadly combo!

Shad rigs
We used them at Grand Isles. We would put a Smoke color and a Pink colored shrimp tail on them. I think they were made by Tout. They used to come in 4 or 5 to a pack. We used to chatch them by the hundreds on the week ends. That was before they had limits. We would wade out in the surf chest deep. We used those collaspable baskets. Before that we used stringers. The only problem with the stringers. Was that we had to keep knocking the sharks off from eating our fish. The only scare for me was wadding out in the surf and back. We would drag our feet to keep from stepping on a stingray. Sometimes we would be out in the water till 12:00 at night catching big specs.
After the show Jaws I don't think anyone went deeper than ankle deep lol.

If you can still find the smoke and pink shrimp tails get them and use them with the shad rigs.
Good Luck Fishing

Thanks
Those are the ones. thanks guys.
By far the very best spec bait during its day, agreed? AND, I bet they will catch trout today if tried.

They still catch fish and last a lot longer than the rubber jig's that are used today.

Night
If you do any night fishing under lights, these work wonders. I use the pink ones with a glow head when fishing under lights in Grand Isle (off the bridge) tied on a 18' extendable jig pole, file the barbs off the hooks. Doesn't take long to catch a limit.

work
those things whatever you want to call them work great i have caught specs and reds on them, singles and doubles of both fish, it is a whole lot of fun when you hook up on two 24" redfish at one time

Photo added of Mr. Champ.

I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but a very popular fishing guide told me that his brother regularly rigs a small Mr. Champ under a popping cork and hammers the trout. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Can you say "Champulizer"?

Mr. Champ
Holy Cr@p I get chills when I see a Mr. Champ. One day YEARS AGO my brother decided to cast side arm in the boat with one of those. Let me tell ya they hurt like H$ll when it slaps you in back of the head!!! That's alot of iron! It's cool to see alot of these old baits. Mr. Champs, sidewinders, remember the old river runts, swimming minnows or Pico's perch, Cordell Boy Howdy, Chugger spooks, broken back rebels, daltons special, hellbenders & mudbugs???? I learned to fish with a old pfluger direct drive! YOU HAD BETTER HAVE A GOOD HOLD ON THE HANDLE WHEN YOU SET THE HOOK OR YOU'D HAVE SOME BUMMED UP FINGERS!

Old lures
And when none of those baits would catch a fish, wtretrievers....did you every tie on [or use a clip] a Lazy Ike. That bait had so much "action" the bass could not resist them.

Another old reliable was the....Piggy Boat, or the small sonic baits.

Dang it boy! I forgot about the Lazy Ike & Sonics. The Snagless Sally, Cordell spot, Little scooper, Quaterback Rebel, El Tango, Creme worm w/ double hooks & spinner on it! I love to dig through my dads ol tackle box. Big as a gang box. Metal that opened out both ways with about 5 trays that folded out & enough storage in the bottom to hide a body in! Stren yellow fishing line,Oh & a bottle of Baby powder to keep spinner bait skirts from sticking together!

Some days....anythng will catch fish
A friend of mine was catching Trout on a Buzz bait a few months ago. He tried several different "Unusal" baits to see how many different baits he could catch a trout on.

Just goes to show you that a new bait doesnt necesarily have to catch fish to be a big hit, it just needs to catch a fisherman.
Do you think the trout alive and swimming in our waters today would turn up their nose at some of the baits we mentioned here? Nope, they'll inhale 'em. New baits catch new fishemen, old baits can still catch fish too.

Hula Popper
Man the first big bass (3lbs) I ever caught was on a Hula Popper. Memories.....My mother in law has an old tackle box full of old baits. I guess I will have to pull it out of the shed and take some pictures.

Do you mind if we add some more pics? Better yet, just start a new one. "Old Baits" Most of 'em will be freshwater baits.I have a few, but my dad has a load of 'em. I think I still have that old Pfluger direct drive.
Dad has one with a METAL rod, & a couple of glass Herters rods. That was WAY before the Lew's Speed Sticks. OLD SCHOOL! Speed Stick w/ Ambassador 5000 you were top of the line!
If yall come across any old baits take & put 'em up. Would be suprised what they are worth. Especially the old wooden ones.

Oh the good ole days. I fondly remember fishing those shad rigs as a kid at Grand Isle. It was a killer on the beach in front the library.
