Timber Question

What is the going rate for a forester in southwest Mississippi? I am talking about 80+/- acres of hardwoods. Looking for a percentage range. Thinking of doing a little logging.

It all depends on what is involved
I am a Mississippi registered forester that lives in Southeast LA. The cost depends on several factors, value of timber, clearcut, thin, marked sale, diameter cut. The only two things that are somewhat standard are that the property lines must be marked and the bid packets have to be generated and sent out. A marked sale for instance requires more time to generat less money but may better suit the needs of the landowner. Rates can be anywhere from eight to fifteen percent with different levels of service and how much follow up work is done after harvest such as site prep, replanting, assisting in securing any state and federal monies available. If you want shoot me an email and I will try to answer any questions you may have.

is there a rate per acre? say i ask you to do an 80 acre timber cruise for the value of timber on my propery, what rates are foresters charging? just curious.

Once again it varies
10 % cruise 20% cruise etc, do you want any mapping done, is it all head high in briars? The average is $10 to $15 per acre and that includes cruising, valuation and mapping. Once again email me if I can answer any questions.

Good deal?
Is 12% a good number for a marked sale on 30-35 year old hardwood? That is the number given to a friend of mine last year from a forester in north La. I have about the same makeup of property as him. What percentage to knock off if I do the property lines myself?
