THATS why he had to get stitches! =] pretty good aye?
i heard two years ago someone caught a 3 footer in turners and even longer ago than that someone caught one in prien lake but don't remember how long ago just remember reading about it in the paper
I saw a man catch a small black tip in the ship channel south of I-210 bridge last year around late September. I was trawling in Prien Lake and then heading south in channel when he stopped me to show me. I always heard people mention of them that far inland, but first time to see with my own eyes.
sand sharks dont surprise me my dad caught that one in the salt ditch in middle of december. then we picked up and ran to the jetties and froze are butts off. and didnt catch nothing other then that sand shark lol
I saw the fin of a shark at the old jetties before. I threw to the shark and it ate it. It proceeded to jump and broke my all-star rod into 2 pieces and got off. I estimate the shark was a 4 footer. This happened about 5 years ago. This was the only shark I hooked in the lake itself. But, I have hooked them at the jetties- The New Jetties. Also, Jeff Poe caught one on camera while fishing with Kevin Ford on Louisiana Sportsmans TV.
I don't think the little guys are what you have to worry about, though I was fishing the beach jetties out of a small boat and had sharks swimming, finning on the surface everywhere. It was the most I've ever seen...with that said, there were like 5 or 6 people wading (with stringers at their side) about 40 yards away...needless to say I did not wade fish at all that day.
I fished Elmers Island years ago in the surf. We were smaking the trout 2 at a time. Surf was loaded as far as you could see with fisherman. The old fellow next to us said Im getting out of here if that shark stays around. Well we thought he wanted our spot and ignored it. Shortly afterr I pulled in one trout and the second on the line was ripped from the head back. SO we knew he was serious. Then my buddy pulled his stringer in off his waste and yes one of those fish were ripped from the head back and he never even knew it. Funny thing was we stayed anyway. We were 18-19 yrs old, then one of my other buddies through on a spoon and caught the 3.5 footer that was bothering us.
Point is they arent worried about you in there. At least the sand sharks arent. Maybe black tips I dont know but I wouldnt worry about it.
I caught a 4 ft black tip at the old jetties 2 yrs ago. I'd still wade fish though. Just run a clip that can be pulled off. Guys do it all the time in the surf. They won't eat you. I'd worry more about skates.
When salinity is high during summer months I have seen them in the lake- have also seen triple tail. Had two encounters wading but both were with small sharks.
Caught one years ago at the old jetties, no idea what type, if memory serves, which it usually don't, it was about 2.5' caught a triple tail about a mile south of Texaco in July 4 or 5 years ago.
My brother and I caught a small black tip reef shark at a warf couldn’t have been more than 3-1/2 feet. Put up a really good fight though. It’s was nighttime and the lake had been really salty it hadn’t rained for quite a long time.
