Venice Offshore Fishing ~ Dr. Shafor's Trip ~ www.reellouisianaadventures.com

After a few blustery fronts threatened to cancel their trip, Dr. Robert Shafor and friends headed to Venice for their long awaited trip. The group of five were among the first guests to stay at the brand new Lighthouse Lodge Friday evening. Congratulations to Ms. Joan Strohmeyer and family for bringing the Lighthouse back to it's pre-Katrina glory.

At five a.m. Saturday morning, the crew headed out so as to try and beat the weather forcasted to come in later. They settled in aboard Capt. Hunter Caballero's new 32-Twin Vee "Tail Whipped" powered by twin Yamaha 350's for the quick trip down river.

Hunter passed up the Lump and decided to run long and it paid off in a hot wahoo bite. The crew also landed four tough-fighting amberjack and a few blackfin tuna to top off the cooler.

The yellowfin tuna bite finally turned on late with several fish in the 200-pound class being reported that evening.

I am waiting on photos from Dr. Shafor and will add those later as I am sure they are still busy packing fish for his dad to take back to California.

If you are flexible and can pick your days around the weather, there are some good fish to be had in March. Those wanting to schedule summer trips should do so now, especially if you need a weekend.
