SCOUTING REPORT – DELACRIOX/HOPEDALE – IT’S ALMOST TIME!

I have not been fishing much during the past weeks due to the wind. My customers like to fish for big trout outside and that has not been happening with the wind, so I have rescheduled most of them. With some time on my hands, I spent the last two days preparing and scouting for my upcoming charters. On Thursday, I hit the east side of the MRGO around Eloi and found lots of bait and some nice “full moon” trout. The conditions were not great, but I managed to get a sneak preview of what is in store. I had some croakers and worked them under a cork on the back side of some protected water pecking away at some trout up to three pounds. Also hit a few flocks of birds with plastics with about a 50% ratio of keepers. I found lots of bait activity both small shrimp and mullet and the water was pretty clean. Things are ready to break wide open with few calm days. On Friday, I had to stay inside the Delacroix marsh due to the wind. I attempted to get close to outside in some of the larger bays but the south wind was just too much, so I retreated to the inside and did not find much. The fish I caught were in Four Horse Lake drifting on the lea shoreline. As soon as things settle down, the big trout will be outside and live bait will be the key. My charter service targets big trout in
Black Bay and Breton Sound with live bait. If this is the type of fishing you like, give me a call and book your charter. I have a few days open in May and more in June. My rates are the best on the bayou - $500 for up to three anglers and $600 for four and include LIVE BAIT, FISH CLEANING, FUEL and everything else you need. You only bring your lunch and drinks.
