NICE GAR TRIP

Reply
These are 6 nice gar we took out of sabine reserve a couple of weeks ago. The biggest was 32 lbs. Plenty of meat for gar patties. This trip was kinda special because my buddies brother came down to fish tuna out of venice, but with 8-10 ft seas the trip was cx. He is from pennsylvania and as some of yall may remember, I went up there 2 years ago for the muzzleloader season and had a great trip, with 2 does and some delicious pheasants. He had never seen a big toothy critter like this and I let him handle all of the jugs. Anyway he has another story to bring back with him from the SPORTSMANS PARADISE........... SORRY, the only pic I could get to load was the largest of the trip, my great computer skills are amazing.............

I have never caught a garfish except a few snags with some trotlines in Toledo Bend. How do you fish for gar I see them all the time but never caught one in salt water. I love gar patties and haven't eaten any in years.

Catching gar: I use a leader of about 18" which I put a whole mullet on. The leader is attached to about 10' of line and attached to a jug.

Cleaning gar: You have to remove a strip along the back with a hatchet or machete. Then you take a knife and pass it between the skin and meat.
