Grand Isle Report

Well the wife, a friend and I went fish the "bridge" last night. We got there while it was still daylight and found us a spot near a light. There was a family next to us right over the light. We talked to them and asked if we could set up next to them. The guy said by all means please do.

So we get everything set up and wait for dark. Fish start hitting the top of the water, and we are putting a few white trout in the box. About 10 PM a group of teenagers (between 14 to 18 yo) show up and start getting between everybody, casting over everybody's line, telling people its not your bridge and not your water". If they crossed you and got tangled they would cut your line, they would tell you to watch where you casting, etc.

All in all it was a miserable night. By the time we left I was so pissed that I wanted to tear someones head off. I have fished the bridge for years and this was the first time they had some discourtious people.

We ended the night with 15 keeper specks, 14 white trout, and a headache.

WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN AND I DID SOMETHING STUPID AND DISRESPECTFUL I EXPECTED TO GET MY BUTT WHIPPED BY AN ADULT AND WHEN I MADE IT HOME AND MY PARENTS FOUND OUT I WAS WHIPPED AGAIN. BLAME IT ON PARENTS THAT WANT TO BE THEIR KIDS BEST FRIEND AND ON AFIRST NAME BASIS. NOW THEY WANT TO OUTLAW CORPORAL PUNISHMENT AT SCHOOL. THIS WILL ONLY EMPOWER BAD KIDS TO BE MORE DISRESPECTFUL AND GOOD KIDS WILL GET LUMPED IN WITH THEM. CALL OUR LEGISLATURE AND TELL THEM TO NOT LET THAT STUPID BILL OUT OF COMMITTE.

popajake, we must be around the same age, maybe, 62?? maybe a little younger or a little older, but it really dosen't matter!!! you are right, if you did something wrong at school, you got it at school!! but, what is the worst part, and back then, you knew it was coming, no getting out of it, cause it was going to happen, is when the teacher called your parents, and they sure did, and told them what you did and back then, it might not of been too much, hardly nothing compared to today, you're butt was even in more trouble with your parents, then at school!! that's because parents cared, not like today!! touch my kid and i'll sue you!!! dam ashamed ain't it!! their just ain't no more discipline anymore and i think everyone knows why, but just don't want to say it!!! they just want something for nothing, figure it out??? my opinion again!!!

I had that happened to me a few times during the y ears. My remedy . I would start casting my line across the kids line every other cast until he got fedup and left. Fight Fire with Fire. Don;t get mad Get Even. LOL Some kids nowadays just don't give a crap about others. So why should I to them? You wanna play ? Let's Play. Sincerly , Jason. P.S. Those kids are Lucky I wasn't on that bridge with ya. Later.

YES WE ARE ABOUT THE SAME AGE, I LEARNED MY RESPECT FROM RUNNING THE RIVER BANKS OF THE ATCHAFALAYA RIVER IN AVOYELLES PARISH FOOLING AROUND WITH THE COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN IN THE EARLY 60'S AND MY TEACHERS EVEN THE WOMEN WERE TOUGH AS NAILS.

Where I come from >>>> We throw trash like that overboard... It's a shame we can't bring kids like that to the wood shed anymore. I know my PAPA wore my azz out many atimes with a willow branch for disrespect. Next time send the wife and kids to the car and handle them brats with the buisness end of your fishing rods.

This report reminds me of some fools I encountered nightfishing for specs one day. Everyone was catching specs, it didn't even matter where you casted, but this one boat was having fun casting over my line hooking it then making us untangle it. So i got tired of the untangling, so I asked him to untangle it so as he was reeling my string to his boat, I tightened up and popped his line. Well he got pissed so he'd cast over it every cast. Well I had braid on, and he only had some mono. Needless to see he lost about 10 baits to my braid that night. But what an A$$!?

but yep i completely agree. I can see the discipline decrease just from me to my younger siblings. I was punished for nothing and everything. They do things i wouldn't of even thought about doing. And they get away with it.

Here is what you do next time that happens. Go get yourself one of those loud air horns, just like the ones you use at a sporting event. When your uninvited guest start getting a little too close, pull it out and give them a little wake up call if you know what I mean. I am sure that after several ear ringing blast the pest will go elsewhere, you might even make them drop their pole in the water when the get the **** scared out of them. Just a thought.

Best way to handle these situations is for the people in the vicinity of this incident to group together and motivate these punks to leave. Seriously, people need to band together more instead of just saying its not my problem.

quickfix I have used, keep a few old 1/2 ounce rattle traps with good sharp hooks to tie on and fire at these scumballs heads it wont take long to get the message across!!!!!!!!!

Last time I was on the Isle I winessed some kids(16-18) steal the rods and net out the back of my truck...........I chased em down and got em back.....It was 2 in the mornin........I would have loved to bend em over and whoop em, but don't want the law suit..........Sign of the times I guess........I still have day dreams bout what I "should" have done, but it worked out for the best.......Sandollar had them on video and was going to press charges......I never heard from anyone about it though.......

The easiest thing to do is go during the week. Also you have to remember once you were a teenager and did some things more than likely. But i agree they need to cut that stuff out however it is a public place and what can you expect for free right.

I was in Grand Isle last summer fishing the pier at the Sandollar, put my pole down, walked 50 ft. to talk to some people for two minutes and all of my gear got stollen. It really is sad how kids act these days. I am only 25 and could not even imagine stealing someone else's stuff like that. Parenting these days is pathetic.
