Yamaha F150

Reply
I am looking a buying 2006 counter rotating Yamaha F150 with less than 10hrs on it and was wondering if anyone could give some input on the these outboards, are they reliable. Should be aware of any issues with this engine being counter rotating? I will be putting it on a 20ft aluminum centerconsole boat. Thanks

The torque will be to the opposite side and the props are reversed...other than that, the motors should be the same...No problem..

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the "counter rotating" aspect of an outboard is important in twin engine boats. I think it refers to the props of twins turning in opposite directions. I would not think it would matter so long as you have to correct prop for the direction in which the shaft is turning.

Did the same thing last year on a single counter rotating F250. The dealer had a single and made me a deal I couldn't refuse and convenced me there would be not difference. My boat runs the same only issue is availability of a left prop which are much harder to find. Have them throw in another left backup prop and you will be find. When I strip my lower unit I will have a choice to replace with right gears or left. Make sure ya get a good deal though.

I have this same motor (150 HP 4 stroke Yamaha) left hand/counter rotation. I got it about 3 weeks ago with a new boat purchase and so far I have about 15 hours. I did a lot of research on this motor and it is bascially the same as the standard right hand except the rotation and prop.

I had an HD22B and I got rid of it for the X22B. Man the two boats are completely different. If I would of only know. I guess you learn from your mistakes. Big difference from going from a light weight jon-boat hull to a heavier Hyperlift hull with a V and pad. I felt like I won the lottery when I rode in the X22B compared to the HD hull. Also, go with the 4 stroke. I had an HPDI on my HD22B. ZERO comparison between the two motors. This 4 stroke kicks butt on hole shot and speeed, very silent, and gets great fuel economy. Take it from someone that owned both a HPDI and 4 stroke....throw the HPDI/2stroke in the trash.
