LATE LIMITS - DELACROIX REPORT

Reply
LATE LIMITS! Sometimes it takes a while to get-em! We started out early Saturday morning at an island that I had been doing well all season on big trout. Everything looked good but the fish were not there. With only two trout after a half-hour, we headed to an area in western Blank Bay and found an “every cast” bite of small fish and fooled around with them for a while putting about 20 keepers in the boat. We then headed out in the sound to fish some rigs in hopes of maybe some big reds or drum. Again, we struck out. I then to decided to head to rig that I had not caught a single fish at this year (because of river water). When I arrived, I found beautiful green water and the smell of watermelon (fish oil smell). We tossed a live shrimp 4 feet under a cork and it immediately disappeared under the surface - a two pound trout hit the top of the water thrashing and IT WAS ON! We had 2-4 pound trout coming over the gunnels as fast as you could get a bait on and cast. After we ran out of shrimp we began using croakers free lined with a split shot. The croaker would drift with the tide and you would feel the initial thump followed by the line moving sideways – count to three and SET THE HOOK. There is nothing more exciting than catching big trout on free lined croakers! We ran out of croakers three fish shy of the limit and then found a few remaining live shrimp in the bottom of the bait well to finish out the limit at noon. It was a late great trip! If you would like to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound for big trout – give me a call. We target big specs with live bait and the time is right NOW. We have the best deal on the bayou - $500 for up to three and $600 for four NO EXTRA CHARGES. We include LIVE BAIT, FISH CLEANING and everything except your lunch, drinks and fishing license. I have some opening later this month and more in August. Marshland Adventures (504) 458-8737.
