24ft Bay Stealth

Reply
My brother in law is about to purchase a 2004 24 foot Bay Stealth for $7500. I don't know if its the liner or rolled gunnel model. It will have a 225 2-stroke Yamaha on it. My question is... How good of a boat is this thing? The price seems good if everything checks out okay. Any Bay Stealth owners out there!

Rock solid boat. Plenty room, handles great with my 225 Mercury. I would buy another one.

I bought a used 2001 2430 Bay Stealth w/ a 2000 250hp 2 stroke Yamaha HPDI in May of 2003 for 20k. Mine is the liner boat. The guy paid 39k for the boat in 2000. It runs in the mid 50's and my cruising speed is 45. I wish I had a 225hp vs the 250hp for better fuel economy though.

Anyways I have 600+ hours on it and it has been a good boat and I hope to get many more years out of it. I have been happy with it.

No major problems. Handles rough water well, but can be a wet ride in 3' waves. More pros, than cons, but some of the cons are the hinges on the compartment lids are terrible and falling apart, my fish box has some minor puncture holes in the fiberglass from wear (i use an ice chest now for fish which is better anyways), I don't like the rails and bumper system, wish I had a leaning post with rocket launchers.

The boat has been solid. I would recommend a used one. That sounds like a smoking deal. PS: I heard VIP Bay Stealth went out of business so parts might be hard to come by.

That is a steal of a deal. I only own a 19 footer and have beaten the hell out of that thing ramming it into oyster and sand reefs, pilings, and it still performs. Sure it will get wet but if your'e running into a 2-3 ft crosswind you would expect in most boats. No major problems with my boat.

In 2001 I bought the 19 foot liner w/150 Yam. 2 stroke. Still love it - no problems. Think I might get hydraulic steering installed.

At that price I would expect it to have major problems of some kind. I would be extremely surprised if $7500 is the asking price and it be in good shape.

It is a very low price for a boat that size. It would seem fishy.

The way the economy is right now you never know. The owner might just be hard up for money.Sounds like a rolled gunnel boat but still a good deal,if its a liner boat then its a steal!!

Went look at boat today. It is a 1998 Rolled gunnel 24 ft with '98 225 Yamaha saltwater series. The trailer looked good, transom solid, no cracks in floor but, seats dry rotted, only 24volt 70lbs thrust minn kota. He also dropped the price to $6500. I told my brother in law to buy it!

A 98 model is a far cry from an 04 model you listed in the post. Still not bad for the price- IF there are no soft spots in floor/transom and the motor checks out (compression, condition of lower unit/oil). I would put it to the test on the test drive if I were you (run the hell out of it). Also check electronics and look at wire connections for corrosion. If it checks out $6500 is not a bad way to get into the fishing game with that size of a boat.

A friend I used to fish with regularly had one. He loved it and so did I. It would still be my boat of choice if I was to get one. Great deck lay out and rode well even in rough stuff. As long as the motor is in good shape it sounds like he is getting a good deal.

It can be a hassle to haul your trash and debris over the curb to the curbside each week. We all know how much time, money, and effort goes into maintaining our properties.
