Surf fishing elmers island

Reply
Went to elmers island last weekend and had a BLAST!!!!!!!! 3 of us ended up with limit, maybe 10 or so had to be measured. All nice size average 16"-22" fish. Saturday we all had our limits by 9 o'clock. Caught on carolina rigged cocahoe or on plastic(chicken on a chain).Sunday it took us a little longer.....wasn't till 11. You had to get as deep as possible and cast as far out as you could, but when I tell you they hit it as soon as it hit the water I mean they were practicaly jerking the pole out of your hand.

Yeah you can drive on the beach but where the road stops and the sand starts it kinda tricky. Definatly no cars, my Chevy made it through there pretty easy though so as long as you have a truck it should be fine.

Same way you go to get to Grand Isle but before you cross over the bridge you take a right off Hwy 1, you will see the signs on were to turn. I have not been since it's been open but plan to soon.

When the road stops at the beach the sand is soft.
Have a plan b4 you get there . Don't pull off the road and stop then try to decide where the **** do i go now?
When you stop it makes anyone behind you have to stop. And the spot they have to stop in may be soft enough to stick them.
there are only 2 ways to go . Left and right and both ways will produce fish. get out on the hard sand by the water then pull over to make up your mind where to fish.

If you don't mind me asking, where abouts on the beach were yall fishing. I went the Friday morning it opened back up and managed only 2 white trout and a few hardheads. I hit the beach and went right for a few hundred yards and stopped. Croakers and Gulps is what I struck out on.

we went to the right all the way down to the cut on saturday morning. At first we were catching a bunch of hard heads, we were catching 2 or 3 hard heads to every spec, but we just moved around a little and found the specs. Sunday morning we were a little closer in towards the entrance, about 100 yards before the rocks if you know where im talking about. Try to find the mud and fish next to it. My philosophy on surf fishing is if your not catching trout than MOVE. No need in wasting bait on those freakin hardheads. Run and Gun if you will. You wouldn't stay in one spot in a boat if you were only catching hardheads there.I'll be there next weekend....... Good Luck
