Baystar Hydraulic Steering

Reply
I have a Yamaha F150 with the Baystar steering and the steering seems tight to me for hydraulic even when the motor is not in gear. Is this normal?

You should be able to turn that steering wheel with one finger, even if you a going full throttle. I was in the marine business for 15yrs. If it's new I would bring it back to the marine where I got it, they probably have it air locked somewhere in the line. GOOD LUCK

I have a 150 Yamaha on a 19 xpress bass boat. The original hydraulic steering was replaced with the bay star. Even though the bay star system is good up to a 150 hp motor it is not the right choice. It does ok. So you may as well get use to the tightness or replace it.

CORRECTION,MY 225 YAMAHA HAS SEA STAR STEERING

I have Sea Star hydraulic steering on my 225 Opti Max and it is simple to steer as long as the motor is trimmed up but if it's trimmed down its hard to steer.

My 2 cents worth!
