Can anyone tell me what the deer hunting is like near Olla, La.? Just curious about the number of deer as compared to Jonesville, St. Francisville area. What about rack size?

Me and my dad are in a club in Olla right off of hwy 124 and depending on how this year goes I don't think I'll be getting in the club next year. This is goin to be our fifth year hunting this club and and last year was my first year to see a buck. And I haven't seen over 20 deer the since we started hunting it. The people that run the club just shoot everything! They don't give a shot and the locals say the club president shoots over 15 bucks a year.( don't know how true it is but it wouldn't surprise me cuz we never see deer) not many good bucks were taking since I been there just 2 good ones and I did see a nice one in the offseason while working at a stand but that one was one of the good ones shot. The area has alot of potential. I think it's just my club and the way it's run.

Do you know anything about the other leases in the area? Do they normally kill some nice bucks?

dont know too much about the other leases but the way the locals talk theres not too much action in the area. but like ive said it has alot of potential it just all depends on how your club is ran. ive seen a few nice deer in the back of trucks in town and the local WMAs produce big bucks. its a good area its all just a matter if people are gonna shot everything they see on your club

I have hunted near Olla all my life off Hwy 506, I have one main frame 10 that was 154 1/8th, however thtas not the normal deer. Our lease kills on average abot 30 deer a year, the ratio is close to 50/50 on sex. We kill three or four GOOD deer a year amongf 20 members.WE are doing as better job managing our herd and its getting better. One down side after 1st rut deer get very shy, not a good late season area as the deer rut around Thanksgiving

I agree beaucoupray we always see more deer early in the season. Especially the first few weeks of rifle. But as soon as everyone comes out with their rifles and blast everything the deer seem to disappear.
