Cut On Contact Broadheads

Reply

Ok mabe I dont get it but what is so imoprtant about cut on contact. It seems that a-lot of people are hung up on this concept. I for one dont want a cut on contact broadhead on my bow I want something that will break bone. Personally I shoot The MUZZY MX3 in 100 gr. I mean with a arrow traveling at around 300fps what is the big deal with cut on contact the blades on a muzzy will be there so fast after contact will there even be a difference. Give me the bone busting power over cut on contact any day. Someone please tell me why cut on contact is so important to them.

muzzy r good
man there is nothing wrong with muzzy's ,, i have been ,hunting with spitfires for over 20 years and will not change, theres a bone breaker in the front , your right about the sales pitch of cut on contact ,, i don't believe it would work , there has to be a bone breaker on all tips ,, probably a sales pitch , to sucker someone in to buy there inferior non selling product.

G5
I switched for stealforce sabatooth 100gr to montec G5 100gr because it was getting hard to find the stealforce at local dealers, the montec G5's do good pass through and bust bone every time. besides I never shot a muzzy so i can't compare them, but motec and stealforce bust bone and whatever gets in there way.

If your pushin 300fps than muzzys are perfect. The only thing you really need cut on contact for is a slow low poundage bow. I shoot muzzys and won't shoot anything else.

Don't knock um till you tried um
COCs may be better suited for low poundage/slower bows. Just don't shoot through bone and it's a good head no matter what speed.

cut on contact
The whole point is so your arrow doesnt lose momentum when it first breaks the hide. Cut on contact tips go in easy- they cut their way in instead of pushing through so your arrow retains more energy. More energy = more penetration

Is That It
So thats it no real reason to shoot them. Have you ever felt the point on a muzzy i dont thing it is pushing through anything the trocar tips are very sharp. I were shooting a lower pound bow I would shoot a expandable that the blades open after the first set of ribs. something like a hypershock with much sharper blades. Oh Yea i dont plan on hitting heavy bone but we all make bad shots I want something that will bust threw when i do make a bad shot.
Thanks for the comments if anyone else has anything to throw in here please do.

Dog struck by timber rattler in Ft Polk area while walking on a
My 9 year old Cocker Spaniel was struck by a large Timber rattler as I was walking her on a leash on the side of the road, main hwy. Snake was about 5 ft long and approximately 3 inches in diameter. The snake was less than 1 foot from my feet and I did not see nor hear the snake until my dog tugged on the leash and the snake struck her on the lower lip and under the tongue. She live about 72 hours at the vet and then passed. I was told that La. vets do not usually keep the antivenim for rattlesnakes as a rattlesnake bite in La. is rare, but they do have the antivenims for other snakes. I know that she probably saved my life as I was walking with sandles and we were just out for a stroll on Sunday afternoon. Do most all dogs that are bitten by a timber rattler die? She had made some improvement after about 48 hours and then turned for the worse. No one can give me any answers. I know dogs that run the woods, outside, unfenced, and I have never seen a rattlesnake bite in any of them. She was a 9 year old Cocker Spaniel, in very good health, and slept at my bedside every nite and was by my side every day. I am heartbroken and wish I could get some answers as to what a snake bite does. There was never any swelling at the puncture site on her lip and the puncture under her tongue was not discovered until her death, and he then saw a black spot. How could enough venom been injected into her to cause death when there was now swelling of any type. She did have significant bloody diarrhea and was not eating. Was there anything else that I could have done? I had her at the ER Vet within an hour of the bite as I had to drive that distance to the nearest Emergency vet. Please help!

Rattlesnake Bite
Every snake bite is different. Most dogs bit by snakes swell up and feel bad and get over it in a few days to a week. Some swell up feel bad, and the flesh at the bite site dies and falls out and makes a nasty sore that eventually heals with use of antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs. Some, usually just a few will die quickly, either from a hit in a vein or artery, or a reaction similar to an allergic reaction. Some, as may be the case in your dog have a delayed reaction that lasts longer. I suspect the bite under the tongue got in a vein or artery, and the reaction was whole body. Won't help your dog, but might help the next one. There is a rattlesnake vaccine. It's given 2 shots 3 weeks apart the first time, and then once a year before snake season(in the spring when it warms up, or before hunting season for bird dogs. If you stay in rattlesnake country, give it twice a year. It's made by Red Rock Biologics. http://www.redrockbiologics.com/

Sorry for your loss.

Better penetration

Easy One
Penetration. Went to a bowhunters safety course and the instructor showed us the difference in penetration between a COC and the tricar tips etc. AMAZING diference. Not that you can't shoot through a deer without one, but with a lower poundage bow, you definitely want all the penetration you can get.
