patience

Reply
How do you pass your time sitting in your deer stand for long periods of time? I have a problem being patience enough to sit in the stand for a long time. I can sit in a duck blind just about all day but I just can't sit in my deer stand for a long time. Any advice other than I just have to learn patience? Thanks.

I have a handheld video game that is on silent. Also a good book helps sometimes.

Nothing is better than sitting 20 feet up a tree, the sun is shining, it's in the upper 40's, just enough breeze blowing to make the tree sway, I put my chin in my chest and sleep my a$$ off...
I-pod is another good choice, as is the previously stated game or book.

I bring sling shots or bow guns and hunt anything that moves including insects.

JB, isn't it funny how fast you can fall asleep in a stand? Just too relaxing I guess.

patience, patience, patience, it takes some time to become a good stand hunter. just remember this you never know when that big buck will walk out on you!

Hey ya'll, A BAD DAY IN THE BLIND IS MUCH BETTER THAN A GOOD DAY AT WORK...LOL...

I'm in my Stand now reading this website, the sports page and news online. I just had a doe and fawn walk by. I got busted cause she walked down wind but wasn't gonna shoot anyway. Having online access helps alot especially if deer aren't moving.

Bink -- wipe your nose, there's some brown stuff on it lol

Brandon -- Isn't it also funny how 20 minutes worth of sleep in a stand is better than 8 hours of sleep at home?

At 10:35 a doe with 2 fawns came by followed by a batchelor group with an 8 in velvet, a 7 & a 4 with no brow tines. Wanted to take out the 4 but once again I got busted. My release smells strong like dried sweat & this thing is killling my chances this morning. I'm about to get down and see what I can do about it. Good luck to all this afternoon.

Here is what I do, First I get perched up and get my safty belt hooked up and then I pray over Safty, because alot can go wrong at any time, I then take a moment and look at Life for what it is and is there any improvments I can make as a person, Husband and in my Busisness, then I pull out the iphone and play deer hunter and enjoy the sounds of Gods nature and listen for that Great sound of a deer walking up to your area, there is no other feeling like that..Text a few people and just enjoy the hunt and Nap every now and then....and your hunt will fly by.....I can't wait for Sunday and Monday when I get to go!!!!

JB you are right. 20 min nap in the stand is better tahn 8 hours at home. It is like being in a hammock. Gentle breeze. Cool air. Sounds of nature.

I'LL NAP TOO SOMETIMES. I HAVE BUDDIES THAT HAVE THESE HANDHELD VIDEO POKER. THEY SWEAR BY IT BUT I JUST ENJOY BEING OUT THERE. IF I SLEEP ON A STAND I FIGURE ITS BETTER THAN WALKING OUT AND THEN BACK IN. IT PAYS OFF. I STAY OUT ALL DAY SOMETIMES ON THE SAME STAND.

well i cant sleep in the stand unless your going to come wake me up after dark. ill sleep in the stand all night, thats why i try to stay awake. i only sleep when i bring my thermacell. the mosquitos keep me awake. there is also a little mouse that stays under a little log right next to my corn pile. so i watch him alot. most of the time ill carve a stick or something. you can try to read a hunting magezine. good luck!

I enjoy the peace and quiet. I have a house full of girls (4 of them) so I enjoy the lack of talking, screaming, and whining (no offense ladies). I also take the occasional nap.

have that got that answer hit on the nail head!!! I'll sleep in the stand in a heartbeat-climber, ground, box or whatever I'm in. I LOVE the peace and quiet, being in the middle of nature, thinking of those I love-and that are no longer here. It's not so much about the killing of a deer that I love so much. It's the outdoors, the feeling of being closer to God and just that tranquility that comes over you being there.

Sleep-sweet sleep in the stand rocks! LOL
