5 total in gun! I wanted to hunt one year with my M1 Garand. It loads with a standard 8 rd. clip. I checked into it & had to buy a 5 rd. clip specially made for hunting.

In the 2009-10 Hunting Regulations I don't find any restrictions on the amount of rounds for anything but the shotgun and it is limited to 3 rounds.

But anybody that needs more than a few rounds needs to go do more practice shooting or seek some proffesional help... :-)

I have seen and heard some hunters with banana or large clips unload (7 to 30 rounds) at large game (deer and hogs) usually because they were walking or stalking and JUMPED their quarry, then tryed to shoot it on the run.
This is as we all know VERY STUPID and DANGERIOUS to ALL in the woods, because the trigger finger IS NOT IN SYNC. with their BRAIN, so those shots are mostly discharged wildly and without reguard of things or people in the area!

So in answer to your question; I don't think anybody would say something to you about a 30 round clip if you loaded it with only 4 and have 1 in the chamber.

But if your(and I don't know that you are) one of those with blast fever, just go to the RANGE and BLAST to yours hearts desire and leave the woods to Hunters that can truly respect and enjoy the pursuit of a living animal and then make that all important ETHICAL and Humane Kill of (his or her) quarry.

For hunting its 5 rounds and it must be a four round mag with one in the chamber. Get caught with a 10 round or larger mag even with only five bullets and your in trouble.

For training, target practice, recreational shooting, the sky is the limit there is no state law governing such. The federal government and busy body democrats of the world would love for their to be one if not an all out ban but so far so good. Democrats SUCK.

I'm just trying to stay legal. I am 44 years old and hunting sence I was nine. It has been mostly ducks.
This is only my third year deer hunting. My Rem 700 holds five rounds and could not find in the regs anthing on rifles just shotguns. It was just a question.

There was a previous post on this same subject and a lot of discussion.

I reviewed the actual statutes-not just the hunting regulations booklet.

I could not find any restriction regarding the number of rounds allowed in a rifle--only a shotgun which is limited to 3 rounds.

I can't say 100% that there is no limit on the number of rifle rounds, but I cannot find it. For those that believe there is a limit, please post the information or a link to it.

Thanks.

The most common rifle for deer hunting in louisiana, or the country for that matter holds 6+1.

NOW HEAR THIS!!!!!!!!!!

I just spoke with an agent for WL&F and was told that you can carry as many rounds as your RIFLE can carry. Shotguns are the only weapon that has a round restriction.

THE LDWF REGULATIONS STATE AS COPIED; http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/hunting/regulations/general/
PAGE 17
Shotguns larger than a 10 gauge or capable of holding more than three shells shall be prohibited. Plugs used in shotguns must be incapable of being removed without disassembly. Refer to game schedules contained within these regulations for specific restrictions on the use of firearms and other devices.

I just took my 10 yr old to a hunter safety class this year and the warden asked the class very question regarding rifles. Of course everyone answered 5, and he corrected the class and stated that there is no limit on how many rounds a rifle can have. I know you guys are refering mainly to deer rifles but think about it how many rounds can most 22 cal. hold. You cannot find it in the book because there is no reg. limiting the number of rounds.

geronimo and admiral rabbit are right how many do you actually need, or do you think you are going to be able to use, the daily bag limit is one antlered and one antlerless, when the deer start shooting back then i will get me an extra long clip just for my own safety reasons
