Duck Hunting

Before anyone blasts me, I am going to check with LDWF for the real answer, but here is the question. Our Duck lease has a large number of deer on it and we are allowed to hunt them. Is it legal to have a deer rifle in the duck blind while you are duck hunting? The closet possible shot would probably be about 150 yds, so no slugs.

Rifle
I assume you are not hunting in Russia....so far we still have the right to bear arms in the U S.....

Rifle in blind
Not legal. Can not have more than one gun per person while hunting and if duck hunting cannot have a rifle.

Yes
You can have a rifle in your blind to hunt deer with while you are duck hunting if you have permission to hunt deer where you are duck hunting.
What you can't have is buckshot. Don't even think about it. You can have as many guns as you can carry in your blind while duck hunting. There is no law against that. All shotguns can only hold three shells total. The rifle can hold as many as you can put in it.
Don't even think about this on a federal refuge that allows duck hunting.

The moderators here are not allowing any more blasting of each other. If someone does just let Andy and the rest of the gang here know and they will take care of it.

Duck Hunting
Just a quick update. I contacted the Lafayette office for LDWF, and they informed me that it is legal to have a deer rifle in the blind. Just don't shoot waterfowl with it.

hmm
well, well, well... this is odd.. A few years back i was on a lease... And, was told i couldnt have a shotgun in the woods by the stand waiting to shoot woodducks while i was hunting deer... When i was finished my deerhunting i would go and hunt wood ducks... They said it was totally illegal to do this...One gun at a time kinda thing they told me..
Whats Up with that..So what was i gonna do... go back to the truck ,, get ma shotgun,, and go all the way back to the woods....hmm... Thats Bull-ony
"So How Ya Spin That"
So what im hearing now is, its cool to have a rifle in the duck blind, but not cool to have a shotgun at ya deerstand.HMMMMMM...Thats sounds kinda slanted....
I cant tell you how many wood ducks used to set in a lil creek behind me when i was on the stand( Hundreds Litteraly )It would flip my stomach so many would come in......they would just pile in there "Everyday"...I was like I had enough of this. So I started bringing a shotgun back there...These people fuh-reeked.. NO WAY, Thats Illegal...Not that they didnt want me doin it, they said it was illegal to do...
(so now its cool) Maybe some of these members were just jelous i was taken woodies off the property and they werent.. idk.. Shot a couple deer that season...and about 20 woodies or so..and got outta there.. I thought that was wrong...
Thought yall might wana chew on that a little....

RIFLE IN THE BOAT
I have a lease south of Lafitte. Ever since Katrina rearranged the marsh my lease now has quite a few gators. As a result I began carrying a .308 Semi LOADED with a 12 round clip for the purpose of killing any gator that takes a liking to my labrador when she is retrieving. I consider protecting Lab equally with protecting my WIFE in our home. Come around uninvited you are going to leave in a bodybag!

you can get tags during gator season if you have land leased and set your lines in your favorite pond. yes that may not get rid of them but its a start. and yes i would shoot a gator too if my dog was in danger but most of the time duck ponds are too shallow to hold big gators anyway. also when your putting out your decoys with all of the motor activity a big gator will move out. how do you think they lived to grow big? and yes its okay to carry a rifle with you. 100% legal. now i hunt on the same land i run my gator lines on and pull some 10' gators off of the land but have no problems during duck season. just keep an open eye and you and your dog will be fine.

I checked with an enforcement agent, and it is, indeed, legal to have a rifle in a duck blind as long as it's not used to whack ducks.

While it's fine to shoot a deer with a rifle while duck hunting, the question of shooting alligators might be a different deal. I didn't ask that question specifically, so you might want to check with the local DWF office to make sure that's allowed. Not sure what the standard is for protecting a dog.
