I took my 11 year old cousin on the youth hunt Saturday morning in Mississippi. At about 8:00 a big doe stepped out into a pipeline right-of-way and he missed her at 150 yds. If that would have been the end of the hunt it still would have been worth the trip. The little fella giggled and laughed for an hour about how bad he was shaking and how nervous he got. After a little nap and a Vienna Sausage lunch we were back at it. Around 4:30 he was begging me to go back to the truck. He was tired and bored and said that missing one that morning was good enough. I talked him into staying till dark and it sure paid off. About 5:00 this big nanny came in to eat some white oak acorns. It took us about 5 minutes to get situated and for him to locate her with the scope. Finally he drew a bead on her and let one rip. He was crying with exitement watching her cut flip after flip down the hill. I was thoroughly excited as well. To top it off, he didn't even ruin a speck of meat. According to him the bullet "curved" and split her head nearly in half. Nevertheless, another kid hooked for life.
