That makes 5 deer in 3 seasons taken from that spot in the 135 to 142 class. This seems to be a streak of luck for finding this calibur deer for us. We have told others at local camps that these were taken from a different WMA instead of the one we were at. There are a couple of folks that know the exact spot but have been tight lipped and not give it away. One of those guys is one of the ones that has one of the five on his wall now. This 8 of Bobbys was full of wateroak acorns and there is not wateroaks within 2 miles of this spot. Just goes to show you the range of a buck.... This is definately a bedding area and these have either been taken at first light or just before dark. I took my buck tending does just at dark. Its dead still during the midday with an occasional slip up of a lesser buck chasing a doe. I am a firm believer of mature bucks keeping themselves unseen in most cases and limiting movement to the early morning or evening hours and even night. Its tough to say! There could be one shot at noon today for all I know. You never know when the heat is on. You just got to be there when it happens! Sometimes hunting pressure mounts up in this area and those big boys go nocturnal. The thing we do is pack for the day and sit it out! All Day! I myself and with the big 8 I shot, waited for the hunting pressure of the local camps to go back home for the New Year Holiday and then I turned the decoys in and went to my spot! After a full days hunt and then a sleep in on this particular day I went for my noon hunt and sat all day to take my buck at dusk. Deer were moving everywhere. The temp went from 25 to 30 degrees to 60 overnight with a mist rain the night before. Barrometer was off the chart and I went for the deer! Sudden weather changes spike the movement for sure! We wait every season for this hole and have hopes it produces without everyone piling in on it! So far, we drive on and our secret remains! Brew, I cant say that these are typical of this area but its surely starting to look this way...... Truthfully, I dont know if anyone else is taking this calibur of deer from this area. None that we hear of anyway. Its just the right location for now. I am definately chomping at the bit to get there now! Im waiting the pressure out for those returns back home of the other hunters. Its just the way I like to do it! I go in when the others go out. When those trucks and wheelers quiet down its time to move!
