just wanted to post a pic of a good friend of mine and his monster 8 pt. 22 inches... Taken off the same stand 2 seasons after I took mine. Consistantly fine bucks taken off public land, within the same 100 yard area.... There should be more to come! Good buck Bobby. Im going to post a pic of mine again and his....

Did these come from Wildlife Management Areas? Care to give specifics on which one?

Yes WMA's .... I cant divulge which one.... It would be wrong to do so. They are pretty much secret spots to an extent..... It wouldnt be fair to my other buds that hunt here. There are only three of us that hunt this spot. We have taken 5 bucks total in 3 years that are 135 + in this spot. Sometimes we get other folks in there before we do, we just back out and wait til they leave.... Its funny watching them sit there for a few hours and not return. Just a secret hole for now. It will change eventually i am sure. But for now we try to manage between the three of us what we take from it. Its working!

I figured that. I would not share either.

Congratulations to your buddy on a great deer. I wouldn't be giving away that spot either if I was you. But I am not most other hunters always stealing others spots. I might be hunting in that very same WMA and don't even know it, might accidentally be hunting that very spot??? But if you will email me the location, I will be sure to steer clear of it. haha

Are those deer typical for the types of deer taken off of that management area? I am guessing that deer like that are fairly rare on the managment areas? I never thought about that angle mike. I was going to ask for the GPS coordinates, but I thought that might be a bit much. I have always heard that if you want to kill deer like that then you have to hunt where they live. I have always wanted to go hunt some WMA's in Illinois, Wisconsin, or somewhere in that part of the world. Hey mike, I think we should start a new Forum where we can swap hunting and fishing trips.

That makes 5 deer in 3 seasons taken from that spot in the 135 to 142 class. This seems to be a streak of luck for finding this calibur deer for us. We have told others at local camps that these were taken from a different WMA instead of the one we were at. There are a couple of folks that know the exact spot but have been tight lipped and not give it away. One of those guys is one of the ones that has one of the five on his wall now. This 8 of Bobbys was full of wateroak acorns and there is not wateroaks within 2 miles of this spot. Just goes to show you the range of a buck.... This is definately a bedding area and these have either been taken at first light or just before dark. I took my buck tending does just at dark. Its dead still during the midday with an occasional slip up of a lesser buck chasing a doe. I am a firm believer of mature bucks keeping themselves unseen in most cases and limiting movement to the early morning or evening hours and even night. Its tough to say! There could be one shot at noon today for all I know. You never know when the heat is on. You just got to be there when it happens! Sometimes hunting pressure mounts up in this area and those big boys go nocturnal. The thing we do is pack for the day and sit it out! All Day! I myself and with the big 8 I shot, waited for the hunting pressure of the local camps to go back home for the New Year Holiday and then I turned the decoys in and went to my spot! After a full days hunt and then a sleep in on this particular day I went for my noon hunt and sat all day to take my buck at dusk. Deer were moving everywhere. The temp went from 25 to 30 degrees to 60 overnight with a mist rain the night before. Barrometer was off the chart and I went for the deer! Sudden weather changes spike the movement for sure! We wait every season for this hole and have hopes it produces without everyone piling in on it! So far, we drive on and our secret remains! Brew, I cant say that these are typical of this area but its surely starting to look this way...... Truthfully, I dont know if anyone else is taking this calibur of deer from this area. None that we hear of anyway. Its just the right location for now. I am definately chomping at the bit to get there now! Im waiting the pressure out for those returns back home of the other hunters. Its just the way I like to do it! I go in when the others go out. When those trucks and wheelers quiet down its time to move!
