Just thought I would share this cool info I saw on the military channel. I was watching the worlds top sniper weapons. A canadian sniper has a confirmed kill in iraq or afganistan, cant remember which, of over 2450 meters with a 50 cal bolt action. they said it was over a mile and a half

I've shot the .408 Cheytec, a rifle and round developed specifically for military snipers, and it's a blast. You could feel the recoil pushing at your face when standing behind and to the side.

What was impressive is the guy from Cheytec told me that the snipers now have one-shot-one-kill success.

The key is a computer the snipers wear on their hip that gives them everything they need: down-range wind speed and direction, heat, humidity and even (believe this or not) the rotation of the earth. That last one is crucial, since if it's not taken into account a target can be missed by several feet at a mile.

All the sniper has to do is range the target, check his computer and dial in the scope accordingly.

This is a huge change from the team sniper system, whereas the sniper would take a best-guess shot and the spotter would call the adjustment.

It's simply amazing stuff.

yea I've heard of mile shots but man a mile n a half is a big difference compared to a mile when talking about a precise shot. its just incredible.
