Hornady Leverevolution .444 marlin ballistics

Reply
Can anyone help with some ballistics on the hornady .444 Leverevolution shells? The website only gives trajectory starting at 100 yards (+3" @100, -4.1 @200 yards). I am interested in where I should sight in at 50 yards to be about 1" high at 100 yards. And at the sight in; where should I be at 150 yards? I know a lot of you guys are shooting this cartridge; any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sight it in 1.5" to 1.75" high at 50. This will likely put you 2.5" high at 100. The ballistics that Hornady offers show a 7" drop from 100 to 200, so you should have 2-3" or so of drop from 100 to 150. So, if you sight in at 1.5" high at 50 (which should be 2.5" high at 100), you will likely be .5" to 1" low at 150. Out to 150, you should be able to put it where you want it and squeeze off. Sight it in Saturday at 1.5" high at 50, and go hunting. Just don't hunt where a shot more than 100 yards will present itself until you test it on paper. I don't trust the short barrel on the handi rifle for good groups too far past 100 anyway. If it's any help, mine is sighted in .5" high at 50. The two deer I have shot with it this year were at 80 and 90 yards. I put it right behind the shoulder, and both were slightly high shoulder shots, a little higher hits than my point of aim. The bullet did have a little rise from my zero point at 50 to where I hit them at 80 and 90.

2 different opinions here. I have it at slightly above zero at 50; so I guess I'll go like that till I have a chance to shoot it at 100.

...love to hear we still have precision people around...think there was a civilian group of 12 or 16 in Bosnia that turned and held off a full Russian regiment back in the nineties...cheers

+0.50 high @50 yds will put you at 0 @ 125 yds according to my Ballistic Calculator.

-1.29 @ 150yds, -3.22 @ 175yds, -5.82 @ 200yds

Your point blank range is 142 yds, given you rifle shoots 2" groups @ 100yds using a 5" kill zone
