LOOKING FOR CO-ED DEER HUNTING CAMP

Reply

Hi, my names Victoria, and I just started getting serious into hunting again from when I was younger. The problem is that the camp my father is currently a part of allows women, but not to stay at the camp. The rules changed some time ago and were never changed to "just men hunt" because no one in the club thought a girl would want to come.

This past season I began going with my dad and other members of the camp did not really approve. On my last hunt I killed my first doe and I was planning on going back until my dad was told I was not allowed anymore.

Therefore, we spent 300 dollars on a Mississippi License that I only got to use for 3 weekends.

BECAUSE OF ALL OF THIS MY DAD DECIDED THAT WE WOULD LOOK FOR ANOTHER HUNTING CLUB/HUNTING CAMP THAT ALLOWED WOMEN. SO IF ANYONE IS LOOKING FOR TWO NEW MEMBERS PLEASE EMAIL ME OR RESPOND!!! :)

well vikki you will find alot of clubs are men only.i was on one and they told me after paying no women allowed.now this caused problems because my wife and two daughters hunt.when i confronted them about it they said this was their man cave.so i packed my toys and went home.i know lease 600acres for just me my wife and kids.some of the guys in the other club asked when would i take them hunting and my responce was family only.so yall might want to try to find a small track and lease it for just yall.

wow
Sorry to hear that happened to you. Your Dad is a good man for sticking up for you and bailing on that club. I hope you find one. I am not in any club anymore (our lease was "stolen" from us. We didn't have a camp, but we did/do have a building behind one of the old member's house where we get together to clean deer and bs. Women and kids have always been welcome. If you don't find a club, next season I'll take you and your Dad to the public land I hunt and give you a good spot to try.

chris hy you should have told them, women only, you can hunt after you have a sex change operation.

You see guys like you have it backwards. What straight guy doesn't want a good looking woman prancing around the camp? What's wrong with a lil eye candy between hunts? Sure does beat looking at your burly, hairy, burping, farting, butt scratching face all weekend. Not that those aren't acceptable at the camp but you see where I'm going with this. Not to mention a woman can make a slow weekend hunting more interesting. WINK WINK.

once
There once was a camp up on Hwy 51 canal. It was "men only" until one of the wives found out why.......................It was actually "no wives" not "no women"..............The camp mysteriously burned to the ground after an illicit affair was uncovered.

Now, the women that come to the camp have to accept that there will be cussing and farting.

Clubs
Our club is in Crosby Mississippi and woman are welcome my daughter hunts with me and I would not have it any other way. And would slap anyone cross eyed for not respecting her. Email me at wgalatas@cox.net and I will put yall in touch with some good people to hunt with.

congrats
VVIICC,

Congrats on the doe. You look happy and like you are having a good time. I hope you and your dad can find a place to hunt next year. If yall can afford it, your own lease might be the way to do, or at least find someone in their lease that will welcome you.

Reading the thread is almost comical.I guess a club with their own rules has the right to turn away or accept whoever they want, but some guys with daughters might see the day where they wish they had taken their daughter deer hunting instead of whatever they have gotten themselves into.

I don't have any daughters, but if I did I would want them to be just like VVIICC.

Clubs
Just for the record I got out of a club in Meadville MS several years back because of the same issues my daughters first year hunting with me she smoked a buck and a doe and some of the guys got mad because this girl was killing deer and they were not seeing anything and they went to whining about woman and girls not being allowed and we all had our own campers. Well I moved to another club and my daughter still hunts with me whenever her college schedule allows and I would not trade the memories I have of my son are daughter growing up and spending time in the woods with me and learning how to hunt for a million dollars.

Sorry
First I want to say that is a very nice deer. Can't wait till I am able to get my first. I got my first 2 duck opening weekend of first split. I think thats what got me hooked very bad.
Second I want to say sorry to every one about my previouse post. I did remove it. It was pretty stupid.
Me and my husband are really looking for a place that allows women and kids also. I do love duck hunting but would love to kill my first deer but hunting on public land is kinda hard and I don't mind it at all. We just want to have a more permenent place to go for deer and hogs. My husband did find something about famlys being able to hunt there land for a pretty resonable price. I think he is going to look more into that if we can't find something else. This may sound kinda funny but I can't sleep at night because all I think about is going hunting.
If anyone has any sugestions can you please let me know. We are looking for a club that allows women and kids. That would be for me and my son and for my husband and my dad. All my dad really wants to do is hunt rabbits and just maybe a hog. So we would need a place for 4 of us. My husband and I both have crossbows so even if ther is a bow only club me and my husband can get into would be great.

Talked to the members of our Board at our club in Crosby Miss. and I have a couple of emails from people looking for a family oriented club to join and our club is based on family values email me at wgalatas@cox.net and I will send them a list of interested parties to consider if any openings come available this year. Yall don't sweat people that don't have family values. "CHEERS"

let me add
I have 2 daughters, 22 and 19. I started taking them in the woods in the B/C Spillway around age 7 or so. At that age we would just walk in the woods, and I'd show them different things, plants, droppings, footprints etc. Occasionally we would get a rabbit or two, maybe a few squirrels. As they got older, my older daughter didn't care for the outdoors much, so she stayed home. I joined a club, and my younger daughter was around 9 or 10 and she hunted with me a few times. She was always welcome and treated well by the guys. As she got older, she became busy with school and school activities and got away from hunting. She is now in college and will prolly get back into after she graduates.

Thank you all for your concerns and interests.

CAJUNHOPPER - I HOPE YOUR DAUGHTERS GET BACK INTO HUNTING. I WAS IN THE SAME BOAT, HOWEVER, I STOPPED GOING BECAUSE MY DAD FLIPPED US INTO A CREEK WHEN I WAS YOUNGER ON ACCIDENT AND AFTER THAT I WAS LIKE THERE'S NO CHANCE IN HELL I'M GOING BACK. I JUST GOT BACK INTO IT, AND I LOVE IT. I LOVE BEING OUT THERE ON MY OWN AND I CAN'T DESCRIBE THE ADRENALINE I GET WHEN I SEE A DEER, EVEN A BABY, RUN ACROSS THE FIELD.

LIPRIPPER - WE ARE LOCATED IN THE LOWER PART OF LOUISIANA BY THE LAKE. HOWEVER, WE ARE WILLING TO TRAVEL TO A CLUB. DISTANCE IS NOT THE BIGGEST OF OUR CONCERNS. FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME WITH INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CLUB.

CRAZY WHITE BOY - I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF EMAILING YOU AT THE MOMENT!

PS SORRY I'M NOT RESPONDING TO EVERYONES POST. IT CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE SO MANY PEOPLE COMMENTED AND IT'S BEEN A COUPLE OF DAYS SINCE I'VE BEEN ON.

D and Victoria,
I made 2 calls just 40 min ago and I'am tell'n you exactly what I heard from one of them in the open..."Pete,it's not a male female thing,it's a generation gap that is not blood related, and their radio music can be annoying " the guy is about 60 and somewhat resented me asking.

P/S...I read your E/Mail this morning feeling guilty but considered it confidential, if I find a club w/younger members in charge will pass it on to both of you...Pete

Sounds like the Taliban has taken over your former Hunting Club. What a shame.

Girls
We had the 'girl' problem a few years back at our camp near St Francisville. Nobody cared if the guy brought his daughter to hunt - she was more than welcome. The rub started late in the evening when bedtime rolled around and all the guys who were accustomed to sleeping in their underwear and getting up at all hours to do whatever were inconvenienced into taking the young lady into consideration. Our camp is 16 x 30 with no inside walls or bathroom, just bunks and a kitchen with an outside outhouse. There was some pizzing and moaning, but we adjusted and everyone got over it.

Great response
It's great to see all the positive responses. My daughter refuses to hunt with me (preferring to go to the danged mall), but the memories of hunting with my now-18-year-old son are some of my fondest.

The first club I was in was a blast, but I finally had to get out because I just couldn't take my kids there because of all the foul language (which some of the members elevated whenever a child or woman was around to discourage them from coming). A real bummer because I loved the club.

Over the past several years, I have found more and more clubs out there that not only accept but encourage women participating in this great sport.

I'm not in a club, so I thank all the LouisianaSportsman.com users who are helpinng out.

i understand.
I understand the concern with having women around men, especially overnight. But it's pathetic when a man or woman can't handle their own and have to be the kind of person that would say cheat on their spouse because of the enviornment they are in. I understand that this can cause problems or a camp and that not everyone is different and that things like that happen. That's why I'm interested in somewhere that has people with standards and morals for themselves. And going on what crazy ass white boy was saying about how he'd set someone straight if they cross eyed his daughter wrong...I would say my dad is the same way except that he raised me to defend myself, and he knows that if anyone cross eyed me the wrong way they wouldn't have to worry about him because I would handle it myself!

As for the whole cursing and not wanting to talk about this or that in front of a woman, I could care less. I'm not a saint nor do I try to be one. I never thought that anyone should act any different, you should always be yourself. I understand men might not want to do or say some of the things they would normally say if women are around, but when you are hunting and involved in a male dominant sport a woman needs to accept that things won't always be perfect and you might hear a few things you'd rather not have!

Daughters
Let me start by saying CONGRATS on the kill. She is a beauty. I myself have 3 beautiful teenage daughters (19, 16, and 15). Do I take them to the camp?....you better believe it. Will I hunt or fish where they are not welcome?....HELL NO!!! I have a grand-son on the way (he is due in Feburary), and will he be hunting and fishing with Paw Paw?.....you can bet your bottom dollar.

I did the club thing....wives and kids were welcome, but only certain weekends. At the annual meeting they voted on dates when "wives and kids" were allowed. The other weekends weren't woman free just family free. Needless to say I left that club 13 years ago. I just enjoy spending quality outdoor time with my family. To me there is nothing better than seeing your child pose with a fish, deer, duck, that they have just taken.

Vic...I agree with a few posters here....your dad may want to try and lease some land from a lumber company. It would be for yall, and wont have to worry about some nonsense.

You just explained it all. For those of yall that can't read between the lines admiral is an ole dude cut from the rocks before gravel was invented. He is not aware that woman work in the real world now and socialize in society and have a right to do so. Now I have figured him out.
"CHEERS TO YOU" Welcome to this century...It maybe hard but try to adjust watch out for cars they move fast and they are everywhere.

P.S. Are you the caveman from the GEICO commercial...

brandon. and others...
brandon,

thank you! i appreciate you taking up for your wife and daughters!

i guess you could always say i was one of those kids or girls rather who went against the "girls can't" idea. i played baseball ALONG WITH softball for a few years because i was told that i couldn't and had that temptation to prove everyone wrong. i know it's cliche but i've always been that way. you can tell me i can't because i'm not good enough, or any other reason, but no one was going to tell me i can't do something because i am a girl.

...and this is the same way. i might be told i can't hunt here or i can't hunt there because my dad spit out the wrong chromosome ideal to be a hunter. but that's not going to stop me.
...also, no one should get the wrong idea. if anyone wants me to be interested in their club and has the wrong ideas (as does the person who commented saying something about eye candy or something instead of looking at men all weekend) you're out of your mind. and it wouldn't be a good idea for you to think that way with me around. because first of all if i was hunting i'd look just as dumb as the rest of you men in your insulated pants, two layers of shirts and jackets, and boots that are two sizes too big for your feet. and when i'd get back when we weren't hunting, i'd look just as trashy and tired and you men when you get back and WOULD NOT put any effort in making myself look appealing to anyone in anyway.. SO DON'T GET THE WRONG IDEA.. THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY EYECANDY. (and if there was, it would be in your best interest not to take part in such pathetic acts)

what a mess...but not uncommon
our club is a family club....everyone is welcome, however we have a problem of our own also with female membership.....not that women can not be members but the thing is we have campground with trailer hookups and camphouse......now with our camp being a Christian based camp.....I did not seem proper to have men and women sleeping in the camphouse...Now if they had their own camper and wanted to bring down to the campground and use that....that was fine.....we kinda left the issue at that.....best we could do......So when my wife & kids go down to deer camp (got 5 girls plus the wife and 1 son...I know it's hard on females in the outdoors), they can hang out around the camp or in the trailer if they choose........We try to get everyone involved in the outdoors best we can......hope you get a big buck to show all us men folks how it's done

I completely understand the way you guys think, and that is very respectful. However, I disagree with my dad's camp because their rules for women are an excuse to keep them away. I cannot even go inside of the camp to use the bathroom anymore! Also, the "rule" supposedly is a woman can only hunt 5 days out of the whole season. So as a daughter I can only go 5 days, but boy if I had a brother...he could go everytime my dad goes.

And it's not fair, and life is not fair. I completely understand that. Which is why I got to make it for myself and find somewhere else to hunt!!! :)

your own lease
I can direct you to a number of timber company's in Arkansas if you like...yearly license is $300...get deer, turkey for sure and there is bear season in some zones....bow season for deer last till Feb 28....long small game/varmit seasons aswell....your dad's club needs to redo their by-laws.....no-way my girls don't hunt.....oldest runs the tractor during the summer on food plots/clearing roads....my gang out work most of the folks there cleaning & bustin' wood....

Thank you. I will talk to him about that. I think the only issue he has with our own lease is that for him it would be very time consuming with time he doesn't have! And I know it can get pricey, along with having to build your own stands because we like box stands and having to provide a place to stay!

Camps
I am staying in the club in Crosby but I am selling my camp if your dad is interested and needs a place tell him to give me call and we will talk about it. I placed an ad in the classifieds today and have got a couple of calls already about it. I will be moving up there soon so I do not need the camp anymore..

Family Struggle
I have been searching for a family oriented lease for 8 years now. There are four of us in my family. Me, my wife, Son, and daughter. We all bow hunt. My wife has hunted with her bow for 9 years and has yet to draw it back while in the stand or at a deer. I share your feelings in your search for a quality club that holds strong family values.

I am looking for a club in Louisiana if anyone has any recommendations! or contacts?

No problem with women at the camp....
I'm in a club in Big cane, we have a campground there but everyone pretty much has their own camp, we have several famalies there that bring the wife and kids wether boys or girls, thats why I got back in this club the way it is set up(plenty of club box stands to bring the kids make a hunt)I and most of the others out there encourage people to get there whole family involved.

and so on...
So I know it's a long way to go. But I'm kind of excited about looking for a camp/club. It's become the center of my attention, some days. I really appreciate everyone who shot me and email or anything of that sort! Thank you. I'm glad to see people still helping others, hard to find these days! :)

crazy white boy - Thank you for the offer. I'll talk to my dad when he gets home and I'll let you know. I don't think he is going to go for that!

bowhunter - I share YOUR feelings. It's just me and my dad who hunts! You have the whole family! :) You could probably start a club of your own!!

theycallmev - Are you telling me because ya'll may possibly have openings after this season? If not, that's okay. No hard feelings. I'm glad that you and your family were able to find a camp/club that all of ya'll can hunt at!
