Fishing in Big Lake

Reply

I am planning a fishing trip to Big Lake on Saturday... I have never been but I understand that it can be a great lake to fish from looking at all of the repoerts... I am hoping that with the fair weather we have had this week and the rising temperatures things will improve at Big Lake and I can have a good trip... I plan on fishing reds, specks, and flounder... I am coming from New iberia and I really don't want to waste a lot of gas and time... I have a friend that fishes there quiet often but he will not be around because he is getting ready for thee Oilmans Bass Tournement on Toledo Bend... The question is "Do the guy's that fish on Big Lake feel that this will be a descent weekend to fish it... I'm not asking where to go but "If it were you would you take the time to make that kind of trip this weekend??".. Thanks in advance guy's for the feedback to these questions....

Big Lake fishing
The water is very fresh and very cold in Big Lake right now.
You can catch plenty of Reds on Gulp or dead shrimp right now along the East bank or the weirs on the East and South banks. But not many Specks right now.

WEIRS IN BIG LAKE
where are these weirs located in Big Lake? Do you have to have a boat to get to them?

Reds and such.....
Thanks guy's for the feedback... Any more feedback from others would be helpful.... Tips on picking up a few Flounder would help too.... I want to make the MOST of my trip tommorrow because my freezer is down to hardly no fish at all and that's not good... Fishing by yourself on a four hour drive makes you want to bring in as many species as possible too... Again, thanks for the feedback... I'll check this again tonight before I call it a day for any new updates...

Flounder
Try fishing the bank opposite the mouth of oyster bayou for flounder, especially if the tide is low or water is clear enough to see the drop off about 8ft from the grass. I belive That's called West pass that connects west cove with the ship channel. Im not sure if there are any flounder in it may still be to cold. Good luck.
