go devil?
go with the surface drive!! my grandson had a go devil for years and sold it and bought a pro-drive with reverse and he loves it to death!! much easier to handle and much better fuel economy, and more speed and much safer!! that thing is almost like an airboat but handles much better than a go-devil!!! just our opinion!!!!!

gdlt vs sd
All depends on your usage, environment, distance, physical abilities. Take for instance if your a marsh hunter that drives 10 miles to his blind well i would certainly want a seurace drive. BUT if i hunted flooded timber with a sandy bottom and only had to drive 10 minuted id go with a lt. Also, a lt will whoop you not matter who or where you are, it's a fact. s surface drive is fairly comperably to an outboard and most have floating handles so you wont get beat up to bad. I have had both sd's lt's and had extensive experience with all major name brands. go-devil, pridrive, mudbuddy, gator-tail. I currently own a (around)60 hp Gator-tail. I made this decision because mb and go-devil have steel frames which tends to look like crap a few years after being exposed to the elements. Godevi sd's are heavy with no reverse, prodrive i dont like the idea of a shaft absorbing a hard hit from a log as opposed to a belt. AND gator tails are the fastest with INSTANT REVERSE. I also own a 31hp GDLT which i only use for bowfishing. But if you do decide to go with a LT go-devil lt's are king.

prodrive
i own a prodrive with reverse. it can pass any where i have a 18x48 boat it will run 28 to 29 mph and good on gas i have done put the whole boat on land with the prop bearley in mud and got off. the gator tail is a lil faster then the prodrive but the reverse is like a outboard motor its not full power reverse like the prodrives it all depends on where u going to be going and doing with it the hyper drives are good to but no reverse but fast where u from. if u ever in lafayette send me a email and i take u for a ride in a prodrive u will never forget

GATOR TAIL!!
I have a gator tail and love it! The only down fall with it WAS the reverse! I have a fin on the back of mine to make the reverse 100 times better now! prodrive is also a oustanding unit. they both have there pros and cons. as far the surface drive, hyperdrive, and mudbuddy they are toys rather than machines! go test ride the GT and youll make your decision!

I own a 35hp Gatorail w/reverse, and I love it! But what you choose deffinetly depends on what your going to use it for, and where your going to use it. I have run Godevil longtails of several different horse powers for years, and they are no doubt the king of mudmotors, stumps, rock, mud, bring it on, but they are slow! My GTR runs just under 30mph and jumps on plane like an outboard, but having used it in low water conditions with stumps I'd much rather a longtail for those conditions. If you will be running low water, but fairly clean of stumps go with the surface drive. If you'll be in stumps and water so low your in just about mud, stick with the longtail. Now as far as brand, I studied them well, and test drove them also. I would suggest your spend the extra bucks and get the Gatortail. It is the best out there, and Kyle and Hoyte provide top notch service, they are second to none in customer service! The Pro-drive does have a pretty good following, but you just have to visit mudmotor.com and read the posts to see that they have more problems than the Gatortails. As fas as the full power reverse on the Pro-drive, the reverse on my Gtr has never failed to be enough power to get me off anything I needed ot back off of. As far as the Mudbuddy, I have heard too many horror stories for me to even consider one. If a longtail is in your future, you can't beat Go-devil for performance and dependability. I'm in Metairie if you'd like to test drive my GTR, just drop me an email, Good Luck!

longtail
OH NO hot this question again. Simple, if you hunt marsh where theres nothing but mus and grass than go with the surface drive, Hardwood cypress swmp with trees, logs, a million stumps, than stay with the long tail. Everyone in our hunting club had longtails, then the ones with money seen the surface drives and decided they would get that, BIG MISTAKE, now there are 3 surface drive boats in our club and when those idiots need help to get there boats stuck off of logs and stumps because they cand reach their prop around to get water behind the boat, I refuse to help. If you want to see a difference i can take you with me in my 27hp go-devil longtail, and get one of the other guys in the club with his surface drive to follow us, and i guarantee after the first 10 minutes you will spit on the next surface drive you see. Not saying they arent great for the marsh cause they are, just not in wooded swamp.
