Hunter's First Turkey

Reply

Hunter killed his first turkey this pass Saturday at Sherburne on the youth hunt. It weighed a wooping 22lbs., 10 1/4" beard, 1 3/8" & 1" spurs. What a trophy for a first bird! I told him that it would be hard for me to ever top that quality of a bird. I getting the tail and beard mounted on a plaque. A full body mount was a little high for my pocket. The birds did not gobble at all that day, he came in silent and Hunter was on his game and wasted not time slinging hevi-shot his way. Maybe this weekend my youngest can kill his first turkey, big brother can sit back and watch the show.

Hunt r good to hear from you, it was a H. S. Struct Slate call. I have a couple of other calls but all the birds that I killed so for on was with this call. I have a lot of confidence in this call. Now it's Zachary's turn for old Tom him self.
Turkeyhunter, I will allways have my two boys in the woods or on the water with me just as my dad did for me. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks Cajunism, it's all a part of life! My boys have the love for the outdoors as I do and I will teach them everything I know. It a good addiction to have. By the way, stop by for the BSA Tuesday meeting once in a while.

Love the sweet sound of slate. Took my first with a homemade box call, all the rest with a slate. Never tried the ceramic. Any luck this weekend?

RJA
RJ- will try but coaching skeet on same day. You should see the catfish in pond now-caught some 4 to 8 lb-ers. The crawfish are starting to bite also. Able to catch 5-10 lbs in an hour with dozen nets. Even have some ducks and tons of snipe hanging around. Found a small deer the coyotes got to in the back. May have to set up on them in the near future and reduce the population. Hope the boys are still enjoying the troop-great bunch of people.

THIS WEEKEND
I had a skeet shoot Sat. morning and weather was looking bad that evening so we stayed home. Sunday the weather was bad and stayed home. This weekend the boys has a Boys Scout Camping weekend which is the last weekend for turkey hunting in Sherburne WMA. Maybe next year Zachary will have better luck.
