the shaft on a trolling motor can be cut down . But to go longer you have to buy a shaft in the length you want.
There is a trolling motor repair shop in covington (i think) that can do either modification.
I have a the big shaft extension on mine, and it works very well. They have two sizes, I think the little one is somewhere around $20-$30 and I think I paid $30-$40 for mine. I don't know exactly how much it was but it definitely wasn't more than $40.
...just keep in mind there is never any factory excess of wire to allow for length...which means cutting, spicing, crimping or re-soldering terminals...it's a lot of work when 'ya try to make it longer...cheers
I tried to make mine longer, Admiral. Went to Johnson's Funeral Home and got a nice one for $10 but could not find a single surgeon to put it on for any price!! Very disappointed with the whole replacement thing!!!
Capt. John L....I knew a guy who had the opposite problem,,,he needed his "shortened".. Unfortunately, he tried to do it himself but it just never seemed to work as well afterward---now we all just call him "Alice"...!!
