louisiana sportsman not user friendly

Louisiana sportsman website has become a non-userfriendly website. When I first joined the site I could check it by the day. I enjoyed browseing both the classified and the reports. Now, I can no longer do this. I look at the first report or classified add at being inputted today and the next one being inputted two days ago and the next one being inputted last week sometime and then there is a string of todays inputted amazingly today.....I put an ad on the classified section and a couple hours later I couldn't find it in the first 10 pages and there were adds before it that was inputted a month before. I thought maybe a glitch....did it again with the same results...what is going on? All I hear is that the management is working on it. Good thing my doctors don't work at helping my health on the same scheduleing.

Folks, we have heard this complaint before and responded to it numerous times.

We understand there are those who do not like the ability to bump a classified to the top. However, for every one of you who don't like these bumps, there is another user who didn't like the chronological order of the posts. Here's why:

When we had the classifieds set up to stick ads in chronological order (no bumping allowed), many users simply re-posted their ads in an attempt to keep their ad on the front page. That resulted in howls of complaints about duplicate ads as more and more users went this route.

So we are caught in the difficult position of trying to please everyone. It's impossible.

We are working to minimize the problem, but either way we set up the classifieds makes some people unhappy.

And neither way ensures your ad will be on the first couple of pages long because of the sheer number of ads being placed. The fact is that ads move quickly down the list because so many people are using the free service. On Thursday, for example, there were 119 new ads posted in the classified section.

So what would your rather? Users bumping their ads to the top or having to wade through dozens of the same ad to find new items for sale? Those are really the two choices as long as this is a free service.

Or would you rather we make the classifieds a pay-for-use section, where anyone wanting to sell something has to pay a set fee? I suspect that wouldn't be liked very much, but it would certainly stop people from duplicating their ads, and then we could switch to the chronological system with minimum problems.

Please understand that we'd love to be able to snap our fingers and fix this problem, but it's not that easy.

The good news is that people are using the section for one reason: It works. On the same day 119 new ads were posted, more than 11,000 people viewed the section. So there are a lot of eyes on your ads.

We appreciate your input, and hope that we can develop a solution that works for everyone.

I agree. Maybe there should be a feature to search ONLY today's posts. I too hate scrolling through those same posts that I have read and seen time and time again.

Just add another link like the "reports", "browse" or "deer of the year" links in the tool bar, that subscribers can use that will send them to the ads in cronological order. All ads posted will go to both the new link and the regular classifieds link, but only the regular classifieds can be edited or bumped by the ad poster. Then when the ad watcher opens the new link, he saves it in his favorites and when he opens Louisianasportsman.com it will bypass the Home page and send him straight to the new link where the ads are in chronological order. The link could be called "new ads " or "recently posted ads" link. Should be a easy fix.

when you place an ad, be sure to put it in the right main category, under the right sub-category, region, price, everything. then put in as much info as you think you need...example...

Category: Trucks
Sub Category: Trucks Other
Region: Baton Rouge
Zip: 70774
Model/Brand: Toyo A/T
Ad Title: Toyo A/T Open Country FS/FT

I have 4 Toyo A/T Open Country tires with about 85-90% tread left size 265/75/R15. They have about 10,000 miles. One tire has a tar patch, but it holds air just fine. I want $250 for all 4 tires or trade for smaller tires with highway tread with about the same amount of tread left.......(I really do have some)

Now if you want to repost it because no one has contacted you, copy and paste to make a new ad, and then delete your original ad. Don't clog up the site and make it a pain for the people who run this site.

If it is possible to pick the way you view the classified, I think that would be best. I also look at the ads almost every day...looking for deals and to kill some time. I personally prefer the chronological order, but understand the problem of duplicate ads. Please try to avoid charging for the ads....there are alot of items that are bought and sold that would not be posted if there was a fee to list. Just my $.02. I do appreciate the classified service and the opportunity to view the variety of items on the site and have recommended the site to many people. Thanks LouisianaSportsman for all the site does.

I agree with this^. I have no issue with bumping, but in the old days a bump resulted in a new "post date/time stamp", so you could still go down the page and stop at the time you last browsed. There is no way to know what you've been through now.

Again, I don't mind the bumps, just wish each edit would result in a new time stamp so you know where (when) you're at, even if you do have to sift through bumps.

This way would not result in duplicate ads, it would simply update the time stamp as part of the edit when the ad was bumped. If there's an explanation why this doesn't work, I must have missed it.

In any case - THANKS FOR THE SERVICE!!!

the reports are in chronological order but i wish there was a feature to search just for todays NEW posts not posts that have been modified or commented on. Just brand new posts

The ads are not in chronological order. I just opened the classifides and on the first page is a listing from Feb 23 right behind a postinf from today Apr 6.

quit complaining about the ads, this is the best site in the world to sell something at no cost to you. If you dont like it read the quik quarter on thursday or read this one and advertise on this one for FREE EVERYDAY. LA Sportsman, this is the greatest thing since sliced bread for outdoorsman looking for deals or looking to make deals, thanks for doing this and PLEASE don't punish the users that don't complain.
