I am in the process of tanning a rattlesnake skin and need to know if the glycerin I got from Hobby Lobby is the same type that you use to tan a snakeskin with, mixed 50/50 with Xylene? This says 'glycerine soap' on the bag, is that ok to use?

salt
I did one years ago when I was stationed in Cuba. I used plain old salt, it worked fine. I had that skin for years until my lab ate it??!!...By the way, the natives swore there were no snakes in Cuba.

Snake Skins
Depends on what you want to do with it. don't know about the process your trying to use. I recently did some to put on boards for the wall. I used Knoblochs reptile tan from Van Dykes Taxidermy and just follow directions on the bottle. Basically skin, rough flesh, salt & let dry, finish fleshing and then wash removing all salt. let soak in reptile tan over night in frig. then stretch out on board and let dry. after that, take off and trimm with sissors. I make my boards to fit Skin and pin down using upholstry tacks. looks real good.

Snake skin
Buy yourself some rittel's snake tan and follow the instructions. Wasco sells it for about $23.00.
