Anybody have any idea why Last Island is still closed to fishing.

The stated reason
The reason all the remaining closures were kept in place was because of thick oil in those areas. However, they just reopened the mouth of the Mississippi River (www.lousianasportsman.com/communities/oil_spill/index.php)- which means the agencies are keeping tabs and the LDWF is responding as soon as the oil is reduced enough.

So let's cross our fingers and hope Last Island and the rest of the isolated closures are lifted soon.

I'm going with drew-b's answer.

Federal Closures
The federal closures are ridiculous and should be opened immediately. Officials are having trouble finding much oil anywhere right now and surely there is not oil 3 miles off the coast and beyond from Lake Charles to Venice!!
