Hello Capt. Paul,

I'm looking to outfit an 18 foot aluminum boat that gets used for a lot of different purposes with a decent GPS chart plotter and depth finder combo. I'll be using it for hunting and fishing in the Shell Beach and Hopedale area and wanted to know if you had any…

Captain Paul I have a Lowrance Elite- 5 DSI and was wanting to know if your chips work on that unit. I am looking to purchase the chip for Leeville area. I would assume if it does any and all the rest of your chips work also?
Please respond to Buckmaster73@ hotmail.com

Capt. Paul,

I have been reading and learning from your posts and articles for years. There is a wealth of information in them that have helped me in the field, on the water, and in my job as a land surveyor. Thanks so much for sharing. I ran across what I believe is a typo in your…

I need to replace my GPS, and the maps are more critical to me than than the unit. I'll likely purchase Garmin, Lowrance, or Humminbird, but want to base my purchase on the maps. I don't need special sonar imaging features. As you've pointed out many times, the base maps lack detail, and the…

Thanks bayouboy.

I see that Captain Paul posted information about the Garmin TOPO US 24K Southeast. Is anyone using this software? Does it provide all the bayou and lake names? Does is show all the pipelines and routes you travel?

Capt Paul,

I just purchased the Port Sulphur edge file. Do you have a route to get to four bayou pass from port sulphur? Maybe from the end of Freeport canal? I have a 20 foot x 72 inch semi vee aluminum boat so I would rather a mostly protected route if possible. Thanks in advance.
You should be careful, the old sulphur mines have plenty of debris under the water ...... dont rely on a gps.

can the mark 4 use the standard mapping chips? I fish the inshore marshes of louisiana and the base map is not very accurate.. . do i have to upgrade? what is the cheapest plotter/depth finder that can use standard map chips or something similar for my application?
Response by Captain Paul:

I believe that the Standard Mapping aerial view maps would work, but to be sure contact Standard Mapping in Covington, LA at Phone: 985-898-0025.

Be sure that you get the program on the proper memory card that would fit in your unit.

Hello guys,

I've got some old maps with some strange GPS coordinates on them. I was told some off shore fishermen are likely experts. So if anybody recognizes this format I'd appreciate any input you might have.

The coordinates are this:

Capt Paul,

I have a couple coordinates from a friends Garmin that I'd like to convert and enter in my Lowrance. How can I convert these?

Thanks,
Chris

In addition to the included mapping, I run Standard Mapping card. On my old machine I inputted your info that marked reefs, old points, dope boat, etc.
Do you offer the same that is compatible with my units and standard map.

Capt. Paul, do you offer a GPS class? If yes, please provide enrollment info, dates, and location.
