11/25/22:

We decided to let the rain pass before going out into the marsh this morning. We set up around 10:00am with water dropping fast, overcast skies and light breeze.

Early in the hunt we saw three mottled ducks poking along and decided to hit them with a duck call.…

The duck blind is ready to go for the big duck season. Cut lots of roseau cane to cover the 4 man blind and the boat we pull behind it. Got to get the work done before the fun.
How'd things look?

Teal hunting is getting better in SE Louisiana. We shot 11 teal this morning and another blind shot 12. Water is high and hyacinth are starting to be a problem. Hopefully it does not get worse. Few more hunts to go for the season.

Saturday 10th, 3 boats 3 hunters, I knocked one down before I got to it 4’ gator had breakfast, other 2 hunters didn’t fire the gun, between the 3 of us we saw about a dozen or so teal. Not many whistlers around did see a few black duck pairs floating around.
What area of the state are you hunting. No good reports from SE LA.

Got a couple of new blinds built and cane put around them. The work is done. Now we need the teal to show up like they did last year and it will all have been worth the effort.

Is that the same spot y’all got em last September? The mudflat video?

Was fishing Flat Lake off the Diversion Canal yesterday and saw 2 different flocks of BWT along the bank just loafing/preening. Wondering if I could set up a boat blind in the lily pads and be legal? Back in the 80’s there were permanent blinds built on the lake, back when we had mallards and…

With a little more than a month to go before we start our September teal season I put together some of the best video shots over the last several years. Teal are a blast to hunt and can't wait for the action to start.

Hey Goldhunter, heard you bought a Nova, what made you choose that particular gun over other pumps? Does it have a dependable reputation in the field?
I had a Nova and I hated it. It was not comfortable in my hands. I sold it and got a Beretta Xtreama 2. If it is a pump you are after you should maybe try a Remington 870 express. You can paddle a boat with it and it still shoots. I have had mine for 15 years.

Anyone know if the grass beds that extend out into the edge of lake lery have any teal in september? Was thinking about hunting the edge of the lake oneday on the south side of the lake? Also map shows grand lake and sun lagoon state claimed? Also much of the open water by pencil canal? I would…

Be careful. Just because it is state claimed doesnt mean you can hunt it. The entire area around Lake Lery/Delacroix is privately owned and most is already leased out for duck hunting. State Claimed doesnt not mean public land. The only public land to hunt in the St Bernard area is Biloxi WMA.

Get your ducks in early and avoid the last minute rush.
Turn around times are much quicker earlier in the season.

I went out to look at a blind for lease in Forked Island today. As per the Farmer he had 6' +- of storm surge on the fields. Standing rice stubble was there when the surge hit and the entire area (540 acres) is now dirt with no vegitation growing. We passed on the blind due to no feed in the area…

Any old veteran Duck hunters got any tips for identifying Do Gris vs. ring necks when in flight. I had close call last season, miss id'd a scaup for a ring neck, thankfully I wasnt over the limit of 2 do gris. It was a passing shot and damned if it didnt look the exact same as a ring neck to me.…

Ahh well i think a dosgris has a lil more white on the wing that a ringneck. Its just hard to tell there is no easy way around it really. Just remember dosgris are brackish water ducks and ringnecks are freshwater. So you almost never find ringnecks in salt marshes.
