Another big duck season opening day. That makes 47 in a row. Calm skies with water height normal. Cool front on the way and we were hoping for some good breeze. By the end of the hunt it did not matter as we were able to limit our as a group. We shot…

We decided to let the rain pass before going out into the marsh this morning. We set up around 10:00am with water dropping fast, overcast skies and light breeze.

Early in the hunt we saw three mottled ducks poking along and decided to hit them with a duck call.…

Guys, what do you all think happened to the Delacroix/Reggio area as ducks are concerned? No storms this year, marsh is seemingly in good condition.Possible flyway change? Large numbers in SW LA.Looking like we may have to start traveling to get decent duck hunting like we do for deer hunting.…

SE Louisiana Report:

We hunted Saturday shot 3 teal and Sunday we shot 2. Hunted yesterday and up until 7:20 we had one duck in the boat then all hell broke loose for 45 minutes, ended up with 17. We had to leave to get to work. More teal have showed up with the cool front.

The duck blind is ready to go for the big duck season. Cut lots of roseau cane to cover the 4 man blind and the boat we pull behind it. Got to get the work done before the fun.
How'd things look?

A few year back I developed a creeping eruption as it is called in medical books, better known as 'Nuria Itch'. I’ve had it 10+ times over the years and it always had to run its 8-14 course which starts on your leg and stops at the neck unless it has enough life to keep going back down again.…

Teal hunting is getting better in SE Louisiana. We shot 11 teal this morning and another blind shot 12. Water is high and hyacinth are starting to be a problem. Hopefully it does not get worse. Few more hunts to go for the season.

Shot 5 teal Sunday...

Saturday 10th, 3 boats 3 hunters, I knocked one down before I got to it 4’ gator had breakfast, other 2 hunters didn’t fire the gun, between the 3 of us we saw about a dozen or so teal. Not many whistlers around did see a few black duck pairs floating around.
What area of the state are you hunting. No good reports from SE LA.

Got a couple of new blinds built and cane put around them. The work is done. Now we need the teal to show up like they did last year and it will all have been worth the effort.

Was fishing Flat Lake off the Diversion Canal yesterday and saw 2 different flocks of BWT along the bank just loafing/preening. Wondering if I could set up a boat blind in the lily pads and be legal? Back in the 80’s there were permanent blinds built on the lake, back when we had mallards and…

I recently got all of my mounts back from the taxidermist, 7 ducks, a goose, and my wife's pheasant. I wanted to share a picture of my favorite. I have a 3 duck dead mount (Greenhead, Pintail, and Canvasback) in a shadow box with Paw-Paw's old guns, some duck calls I made, an old rat trap, lots…

Hey Goldhunter, heard you bought a Nova, what made you choose that particular gun over other pumps? Does it have a dependable reputation in the field?
I had a Nova and I hated it. It was not comfortable in my hands. I sold it and got a Beretta Xtreama 2. If it is a pump you are after you should maybe try a Remington 870 express. You can paddle a boat with it and it still shoots. I have had mine for 15 years.

Anyone know if the grass beds that extend out into the edge of lake lery have any teal in september? Was thinking about hunting the edge of the lake oneday on the south side of the lake? Also map shows grand lake and sun lagoon state claimed? Also much of the open water by pencil canal? I would…

Be careful. Just because it is state claimed doesnt mean you can hunt it. The entire area around Lake Lery/Delacroix is privately owned and most is already leased out for duck hunting. State Claimed doesnt not mean public land. The only public land to hunt in the St Bernard area is Biloxi WMA.

Get your ducks in early and avoid the last minute rush.
Turn around times are much quicker earlier in the season.
