Last week went to Laplace spillway in the old model sportsman II and picked up a few brim/perch. Caught about 30 or so but only kept a few to stink up some grease. All caught casting a homemade black ant fly about 18 inches below a split shot. They should be hitting pretty good on inline spinners and small artificial lures.

Wife, son and I took my 91 years young mother to Poverty Point for two days of relaxing at the cabin. Night crawlers and crickets produced a bounty. We finished with about 45 cats and 40 brim.

Broke the ultra light out and jerked a Mister Twister Micro Crawfish 2 feet under a small cork and threw a Black and Chartreuse H&H Cutie Spin at one of the ponds off the Norco Spillway. Perch and buck bass where aggressive. I was fishing from the bank, it was hot but I did manage a few nice perch and one mentally challenged catfish.

I ran into a gentleman who had about 15 huge goggle-eyes and a few chinquapin in his cooler. He was kind enough to share that he caught them tight line fishing pieces of night crawler near vegetation.

If the weather holds up, I'm going to drop my little back of the truck boat in and see if I can get on some sacalait, bull bluegill and yes goggle-eyes this Thursday. Anyone with any reports in the area let me know. I'll post an update if I get out on Thursday.

I haven't been on the water much this summer/fall but looking to see if anyone is having any luck on the Pearl near Pearl River. I'm planning on going Friday morning and/or Saturday and will be targeting sacs, perch and white bass. Any information on how conditions are and if anyone has been doing any good there lately would be appreciated.

Hi all, I'm trying to get any information on the tributary under I55 bridge from LaPlace to Manchac area. Has anyone been catching anything since the last Hurricane that flooded LaPlace? I've gone scouting twice and see beautiful looking water but little to no fish life.

No looking for your spot or secrets just wanted any feed back if anyone has experienced the same or been doing ok.

I plan to go either to Norco spillway or I55 this weekend therefore any information would be appreciated.

I'm looking for some advice on catching Sheephead. I've caught a few my mistake but am looking to go and try to catch some this weekend. I'm not asking for anyone's honey hole or spot just the appropriate or best techniques, rig and bait. Any information would be appreciated.

A few weeks ago I accidently caught a buffalo fish and remembered when growing up in MS that they tasted good steaked out and fried. I'll trying to find out the best but legal way to catch them here in South Louisiana. Any information would be appreciated.

August 20, 2012 at 9:19pm

I heard from a buddy with the COE that they are still working on the Seabrook project and will be working on it likely until winter 2012. He did inform me that the launch and pier was open although there is little to no current coming thru the channel because they have it blocked off completing construction. Anyone know if it's true that you can launch from there and if the pier is open?

Looking for any information on perch jerking in the Southeast LA area. I'm looking to do some perch jerking tomorrow (Sunday) I-55 canals, Pearl River, etc...This morning I scouted I-55. Surprisingly the water was very high but I did catch 3 bull bream, 2 goggle-eye, and 1 sac after 2.5 hours... Any reports good or bad will be appreciated.

April 17, 2010 at 2:26pm

Before last week's rain (flood) lol...My kid and I were catching nice size and numbers of bream and catfish with a few sacs in and around the spillway from our 16ft flat. Anyone doing any good since the rain has slowed down? Looking to go Sat morning try some of my hand tied 1/80th jigs, crickets and redworms.

September 17, 2009 at 5:27pm

Can anyone share information on who sells crickets? Bream/catfish are biting in the area but I've only been able to find nightcrawlers (Walmart) and dillies (PetCo). Any information would be appreciated.

July 16, 2009 at 7:09pm

Looking to start panfishing and looking for some quality areas to use my 15ft flat and bream is the target....any information would be appreciated.

I'm trying to find the name or information on a local guy that sales bulk soft plastic 3.5/4 inch "shrimp" and "minnow" lures in and around the Seabrook and surrounding areas. I believe the guy's name is Don. Any information on where to purchase the lures or contact the seller would be appreciated. Post here or shoot me an email thanks

Wanting to take my 16ft flat out and try to catch some sacs/bream/bass on the Pearl and wanted to know if the water was down and if anyone doing any good lately.

I'm looking for any information on catches of white bass in the southeast La area. Let me know if anyone is having any luck...thanks

February 27, 2009 at 5:38pm

I'm looking to hear if anyone has had any luck catching white bass in any of the rivers in the SE Louisiana area. Any information would be appreciated.

November 21, 2008 at 3:15pm

I purchased a 14ft Ryancraft with 25hp Evinrude last year and am looking for someone locally that can give it a once over and possibly do some minor work that need to be done. I'm located in Kenner and would like to know the name or address of some good options. Email me here or at thanks

July 15, 2008 at 11:59am

Was off work Friday and Sat decided to do some bank perch jerking off Hwy 51...walked the bank and threw a small rooster tail and small roadrunner. Took photo of some of the bigger ones...Friday(13) and Sat (9). Can't wait to get my flat boat registration/trailer tag so I can drown a few waxworms and wigglers. Waxworms and wigglers produced a lot of small ones but the larger ones took the spinners.

Glad to see some reports, questions, etc..on sacalait. I let my first cork and jig hit water for the new year last Friday while coming home to Kenner from Hammond. I stopped at a outlet on Highway 51 between Manchac and Ruddock and picked up a few. It's early but some are catchable from bank so I'll be putting the boat in later this week

Nice catch! The pictures are great. I've been catching a few marsh bass on a Rensky 2' super micro frog but not doing as good as you. Keep posting and thanks.

A comment titled: Re: Sac a lait questions! in response to a report titled: Sac a lait questions!

I've talked to a guy in Mississippi that experienced the same thing. Local river flooded and overflowed his large private pond. He said once his threadfin shad population picked up then he noticed his sac population picked up. I believe the flood did have a negative effect but if you are catching some then time should correct the unbalance.

That is a nice shellcracker as we call them in Mississippi. Must have been one heck of a fight with that 'Cars' rod and reel combo. Nice very nice.

I've been catching a few in the Spillway and in a few ponds near Norco. The water temperature was about 50 to 55 degrees. There are other guys (expert) sac fishermen/women on this forum who can assist more; maybe they will weigh in.

A comment titled: Good Eating in response to a report titled: What is it??

I was born in Mississippi and that my friend is what we call good eating or like some have said 'ground mullet'. As a kid we would have them at least once a month on Friday nights. Excellent table fare.

Next time you catch some try a few!

A comment titled: Yes that is correct... in response to a report titled: Need some Rio Grande Cichlids

I remember several years ago catching my first one in City Park (Metairie) throwing homemade flies/micro jigs using a 7 ft. ultra light.

I was told by my neighbor(Wildlife Officer)to kill or discard of all that I caught and don't put back in the water. They are very invasive and will kill or stunt the bluegill population.

Yeah man you don't want to do that! A definite fine...

If you don't mind sharing what technique do you use on hot days? I'm a panfisherman but have been catching by accident a few nice bass throwing beetlespins and 1/32 spinners.

A comment titled: Sorry for the delayed response in response to a report titled: Bonnet Carre

I've caught a few nice sacs walking around spillway ponds/lakes and roadside cuts off Hwy 51 from LaPlace to Ponchatoula.

You can likely do ok with minnows but my luck has been reaction strikes on beetle spin type 1/32 lures and 2.5 inch cigar cork with a blue jig about 2ft below it. Throw out and an occassional jerk retrieve.

chrisskeet20, thanks for the information. I've been fishing the upper/lower Borrow canals and what I believe is Lake Jacob(no luck). The map will help tremedously.

These are a few I caught Saturday. I've been able to catch a few large sacs (1/32 white and brown beetle spin with gold blade) and will use my water scamp first chance I get.

News and catch. I've been waiting to put my little water scamp into those ponds this season. I did some scouting last week and the water is beautiful. I picked up a few sacs and some nice bluegill (perch)

I will post a pic later. Thanks for the update. Nice boat.

A comment titled: Thanks for the feedback in response to a report titled: Sacs/Brim LaPlace/Ruddock/I55??

After all the rain I went out on Sunday morning to scout around before committing to taking either my 2 man water scamp or 15ft Rhyan-Craft boat.

I walked around the bank near two boat launch sites on Bonnet Carre and several I55 opening on Highway 51.

Bonnet Carre (3 perch, 1 large sac, 2 12in bass) all thrown back as I was only scouting

Highway 51 (LaPlace to Ruddock) 1 perch

Hopefully the weather holds out and I can drop one of the boats in this friday.

A comment titled: Any triple tail grubs in in response to a report titled: Looking for a name of a sacalait jig

the 2 - 3 inch category. You can get them at your local academy, bass pro and sometimes Walmart. Best colors for me have been black/char and blue and white 12-18 inches below a cylinder cork. Southern Pro Tackle, Kalin are pretty good.

Looks like you used the right technique and caught some beautiful fish. Keep posting because the older fishermen such as myself might have to pick up a few pointers from you.
