A fun day in the water today with a boat load of Pettigrews! Judge John Pettigrew, his son, John 'Bug Oil' Pettigrew, Uncle Ashby Pettigrew, Randy Dornier and Jack Daniels on board. Beautiful weather, pretty water but, a slow bite for us today but, we got enough for the fish fry at their camp tonight and had a great time doing it! The good bite kinda happened later than we wanted to stay out there. The highlight of the trip was I took the Judge to a spot he used to fish over 20 years ago and he caught a big trout on the same bait he used to use 20 years ago, old school green Sparkle Beatle, how cool is that! We had a great time touring the marsh after showing them how much of what they remembered doesn't even exist anymore. Wide open bays that used to be small canals.
Great trip with some great folks, can't wait till next time! Thank you Capt Marty LaCoste for setting up the trip?

A quick one stop shopping thus morning with Robert and his sons Travis and Zack in Zack's birthday trip!
Not a whole lot of story to report, couldn't get much easier. Live shrimp and double rigged any color Matrix did the trick with the live shrimp maybe having a slight advantage. Left em biting.

Another very successful trip with the Marathon Oil old retires farts including the captain! Lol. Always fun getting together with these guys and catching a ton of very nice trout makes it even better! We got a little bit of a late start and a little bit of a bumpy ride to the fishing hole but, the big trout were waiting. Had a good bite going till Limber had a good trout coming in and a big stinky Jack snatched it! Lol. Had a nice mess of big trout when the wind picked up and the bite slowed down. Talked to Capt Josh and made a short move next to him and started slamming big trout on double rigs! My guys made short work of it to finish! We had a blast! I'll say it again, A BLAST!!
We started with live shrimp and rattle shrimp but, when the action heated up switched to double rigs, another one of those days to clean out old tackle, double rigged anything! Lol
A good start to another week running out of Cocodrie!
Come get you some!! 225-715-2105

I had a very special quest on the Blue Wave yesterday, my WIFE! I haven't been home in weeks and promised her the boat for Mothers Day, the original plan was for me to tow the boat home for a day on the rivers but, she surprised me by coming to Dularge instead! It couldn't have worked out any better. She loves the water but, until now wasn't in to fishing. Lol .
We left the Reel Inn dock around 0930 and headed to Coon Point, took her for a tour around the island, we stopped at a few spots and guess who caught fish at every stop! Then we came across some very playful Dolphins she fed all the trout to the Dolpins. Lol from there we headed east and showed her all the other islands and continued to catch trout and feed Dolphins! Pointed the Blue Wave north to Coco Marina for an awesome Mothers Day lunch of Wine Island Shrimp, her new favorite.
We then worked our way through the marsh all the way back to Dularge and still caught trout at every stop, every point and intersection along the way, Beth even caught some doubles! Heading back up Bayou Dularge we spot a couple sitting on the dock catching hard heads and gaftops, we filled their box up with some very nice trout and that ended our trip, ne fish to clean!
We certainly enjoyed our day on the water! Maybe an idea for a service for Catchdat to offer? Don't always have to be about filling the K2 with fish, Dolphins gotta eat too! Lol

Teamed up with Capt Tommy Pellegrin the past 3 days while he is waiting on his new boat. We filled the boat with trout and sheepshead Friday, I mean filled it!
Sunday we didn't have a charter so we did some scouting and that turned in to catching. Lol. 50 big trout in just a couple hours.
Today we had a group from Mississippi that hammered the trout! 150 quality sized trout by 10 am! And left them biting!

Now is the time to make the call and schedule your trip!

Couldn't ask for a prettier day on the water, absolutely beautiful!
James and Elizabeth were waiting on the Reel Inn dock when I got there this morning, we jumped on board the Blue Wave and off we went. We made one unplanned stop for a big flock of diving birds that didn't work out and off the where we been catching. We started catching right away but picking through undersized trout until James hooked in to a nice Bull Red! We continued picking through small trout but we didn't mind it. We made another move and found trout biting almost every cast but still small so just kept picking until Elizabeth hooked a nice black drum that kept her busy for a while!
We caught probably a couple hundred trout and had 28 keepers but, had a great time doing it! To top it off Elizabeth got rid of the zen on and now fishes with spinning reel. And now all James has to do is order her a Zook Design Catchdat Special with her name on it with a Penn Fierce 2000 reel! He better not go to Walmart and come back with an Ugly Stick!! Another nice day on the water with good people, they will be back!

What a beautiful day on the water with a great crew!!
Always good to have Beth and Gray Bailey back on board the Blue Wave and this time Beth's dad Jerry came along. After a good BQ meal at Big Mikes last night before getting to the Reel Inn, they stepped out of the Inn this morning and got right on the Blue Wave ready to fish. As soon as we stopped at our first stop Gray went to work with his trusty bait caster and landed 2 nice trout in his first 3 casts! What a way to start the morning! We could have went straight to the birds and put some numbers on board quick but stayed with the nicer trout away from birds. Gray continued to work his magic for a few more before the gnats showed up and we evacuated the shoreline! Lol
We hit a couple flocks of birds catching small trout until Beth hooked in to a nice Bull Red, she got her dinner!! We went on the hunt and didn't find much else, went back to spot one and caught a couple more.
With weather so nice we couldn't resist taking a ride in the Gulf. We cruised the shoreline checking a couple spots, took a nice tour around the island so Beth could see what a beach without hotels looks like! Didn't catch anything out there but it's always a beautiful sight! Called it a day and went in, they needed to get home and cook the crabs, oysters and fish they are taking home from the bayou.
A beautiful day on the water with good people, can't wait to do it again!

I'm not gonna lie ans say good as it gets, fast limits but, the fish are biting and you just can't ask for better conditions to be on the water, absolutely beatiful! I have Wednesday open before the next weather moves through. Don't waste this beatiful time! Call me!!

Mr. Messner from Michigan wanted to fish today by all means! His travel plans didn't allow rescheduling another day so we decided after all the rediculous weather we would leave at noon and make an afternoon tip.
Over the last 24 hours the weather and water went from one extreme to the other! We left the Reel Inn dock at noon agreeing on a nice afternoon on the water but, did not expect even one fish to bite. And the first couple of spots proved that to be correct. We made a move and pulled up in a spot that really didn't look promising but, with the wind still blowing 20+, not many other option so we tried it. First cast brought an 18' trout, I think I screamed! Lol. A couple more cast and a 20' trout! No way this is happening! I was totally shocked! We didn't fill the box but continued to catch beautiful trout and a couple of reds on this short afternoon trip.
Normally I would consider this a bad trip but, after the weather beating Dularge took its an awesome trip and a very good sign of what the next few days should be!
Berkley Rattle Shrimp was the best for under a cork and Matrix Green Hornet was the best tight line bait. We fished very shallow water, in and out of grass beds so kept switching from cork to tight line.
I have room for another person Tuesday and open on Wednesday, come on, let's get em!

April 02, 2016 at 6:45pm

Enough of this weather! Had to fish in it yesterday, Saturday will be 25 - 35 mph winds and my customer from out of town wants to fish as long as there is no storms and lightning.
BUT, after this passes it looks good all next week! Trout are out of the marsh and moving south, should be a great week! I do have an opening for one person on Tuesday and then open to be booked after that.
Call me and get out here next week. I'm all stocked up with the hottest Matrix Shad and a bunch of Berkley Rattle Shimp! Trout are out of the marsh but still in the lakes and bays, let's get em!!

I just finished 3 fun and interesting days of catching with Dave and Ron. These guys know what they are doing and brought their own tackle, it was very interesting watching them catch on lures we never use here.
Tuesday... After a 15 hour drive to get here Minday and some rest at the Reel Inn they were at the dock early and ready. Right behind a cold front and 15 deg water temp drop we still caught trout. Had to work for them but together enough for a fish fry Tuesday night with some left to bring home.
Wednesday.. Started out with calm conditions ans birds starting to work. We got a good start and when the wind turned on we jumped in the marsh and continued to catch. Ended up with 35 trout with and some reds.
Thursday... Wind blew all night but calmed down at day break, calm before the storm! Lol. We had to hunt for them but, at the third stop we found hundred trout. It took about 30 minutes to put 35 trout on ice before running from the storms.

3 different weather patterns in 3 days but, we made it happen! CATCHDAT!

The picture is some of the 16 trout caught, didn't take any more pics after.
I had to bring the boat down to be ready for next weeks trips, can't do that without making a quick fishing trip! With the wind already blowing and fish not biting in the marsh I really didn't espect to catch a fish. I was happy with 4 in the box, I had dinner but, the slow bite continues! Trout were either less than 11' or bigger than 14' no 12' trout to measure. After trying some of the spots in the marsh without a bite headed to the lakes to face the wind. Started htting spots downwind of points to be protected from the wind and caught fish at all of them. Some points produced bigger trout than others. Today every fish hit the Rattle Shrimp and I'm not saying that cause that's all I threw. I'm not knocking any other bait or promoting Rattle Shrimp, only reporting what worked for me today.. I switched up trying to see if they would hit anything else, sparkle beatle, HLT swimmer Jr, HLT Anchovies, 3 colors of Matrix, all without a bite? Ended up with 16 nice trout and I would call, that a big success for this morning.
Not a gull or pelican in sight today, they know the weather is gonna be real bad the rest of the week and left town! Just going to be a short setback before the spring action starts, get your trips booked now!

Monday's trip had to reschedule due to illness. Looking like it should be a very good day, warmest day and rain not getting here till afternoon, right before the next front. Very well could be the best day in the past few weeks? Trout have already been responding to this spring like weather, some nice catches this weekend! I didn't have a charter yesterday but made a short scouting trip. I stayed away from the places we are catching now and checked some Spring time locations and found trout in holes they were not in a couple days ago. Monday should be good!
We were greeted by that monster bullred at the first spot we checked Saturday along with a school of trout! He got his mug shot taken and released.
Anyone want to take advantage of this and scoop this day up call me ASAP!!

February 21, 2016 at 7:48am

Well let's just say this time it's a good thing I broke the rules. Lol
Left late this morning alone to check the trout bite and do a little scouting. After following the trout catching rule book for the first few hours and only catching a few I threw the rule book overboard! The trout ain't following it so I won't either! Lol. The more things I did wrong the more trout I caught. Not fast a furious but got it done, thought I had a limit but actually was one short at the cleaning table.
So the trout are here and biting better everyday. Time to get em!

Beautiful day in the water today if you could hide from the wind! Lol.
On board was Rudy from Saritas Mexican Grill, his 2 sons and Jacob. We took a late start this morning sense it was after 1 am when they arrived at The Reel Inn last night. With the late start and 2 young boys on their first trip we decided to go straight to hunting Sheepsheads and turn this into a teaching trip for the boys to prepare them for trout fishing. We didn't load up but what we did catch where big enough to call Bay Snapper. Lol. Hint, the bait has to stay in the water long enough for fish to catch up to it! They worked me today, those boys are tough on tackle! Brutal winds, couldn't get a bite anywhere that was protected from the wind so we were forced to fish in the winds.
The young boys did impress me with never quitting with a slow bite and strong winds, they were not even close to wanting to quit when we had to call it a day. That tells me they had fun and that's the main objective. They did really well learning in windy conditions.
They will be back in a couple weeks which gives me time to get back in good shape! Lol.
Book your day on the water.

February 13, 2016 at 9:29pm

Two beautiful but, tough fishing days in Dularge. Water temps and conditions getting better everyday. Keep the western factor out of the wind and keep the Atchafalaya River where it belongs!
Friday was Mike Neil and his buddies on board. Trout bite was very so I gave the option to go for meat but, elected to continue trying for trout ans I'm always good with that!. We ended up with a few with a few Reds, Bass and a couple Blue Cats and had a great time fishing with the guys.
Saturday was Wendy and Nathan on board. Water was looking a lot better than Friday and warming up, trout bite was a little better early in the morning. This crew was fine catching anything that would bite so settled in to the Drum and Sheepshead hole, pulled out the shrimp and let them get busy putting together a meat haul and had a great time doing it! If I would have known they would have so much fun I would have went straight there! We had a blast!
Things are improving quickly and we should be back to slamming trout soon, could be tomorrow!

January 30, 2016 at 6:12pm

January 24, 2016 at 7:37am

Absolutely the best trout action I have ever seen! Even better than any summer morning! A four man limit in a very short time both days, 100 in one hour Friday. Matrix Shrimp Creole and Green Hornet both under cork and tight lined. The bite is very light and you need a good sensitive Rod and Fins Braid to detect the bite, once you get the feel for it you're on your way to a box full! Even under cork they will not always take it down, watch for any movement.
I see no reason now why this action wouldn't continue throughout the next few months, the trout are in the winter holes and going nowhere soon. Come get some!

Capt Elton Rodrigue

January 16, 2016 at 6:34am

Another awesome day in Dularge today, every time we say it can't get better it does!!
Pulled away from the Reel Inn at daylight with ole buddy David Basso, his granddaughter Analiese and Capt Dan Wiemer on board. First stop found the trout waiting, slow and steady bite put 53 trout in the K2. We made a shot move and found them biting every cast! Power Pole down and wasn't long before number 100 hit the ice. It happened so fast no one was ready to stop fishing so we did some catch and release for a while. With only 100% chance of rain we still beat the rain!
Matrix Shrimp Creole and Green Hornet under cork and tight lined all worked even though Analiese out caught all of us with Shrimp Creole under a cork. She will have sore arms tonight!
In Dularge we don't shut down for winter, non stop trout catching!

I have Sunday open so stop wishin you was fishin, CALL ME and get down here!!

Capt. Elton Rodrigue

January 15, 2016 at 6:02am

Here is a few pictures Capt. Marty didn't have for his report.
Changing conditions! We fished Dularge 3 days in a row with 3 totally different conditions. Wind changes, temperature change, before and after storms and fronts and caught fish everyday! Fished 3 different location adjusting for conditions, that a perfect example of fish the conditions, not the spots! Also change techniques to fit conditions, The only thing not changing is Matrix Shad is still the bait getting it done, today most fish were caught tight lining with a very slow retrieve, the last 2 days was mostly under a popping cork.
The king of Dularge himself Capt Marty LaCoste joined Robin and I this morning! He just could take being off another day while we are catching fish. That's what happens when people are not booking, we get together and fish so the team stays in fish. The other reason is that we do this because we enjoy fishing!

Time to get in on some of this Dularge winter action and get you 2016 trips booked.

Jan 8 & 9 has been 2 incredible days of trout fishing! Friday no one wanted to fish so I went solo, and even after a fog delay I still limited by 7:25 am! When I got to the dock there was 2 people wanted to go after seeing that report. Loaded them up and went back out and they added another 35 trout to my 25 and still back in for 1 pm.
Today, Saturday. Storms rocked the trailer all night last night, shut off the alarm and stayed in bed this morning. Weather blew through and cleared up by about 9 am.. Had no intentions of going out right behind all that rain and wind but, it was looking so good I couldn't stand it. Lol. I texted Mr Ribin to meet me at the dock and we departed the Reel Inn at about 9:30, I never leave that late! We started fishing at our first stop at 10 am, and at 11 am we had our limit but, that was too fast and we wasn't ready to quit so did a little catch and release. Who said trout fishing is summer time? The trout or in and winter trout fishing is some of the best! As long as water temps don't drop too much the wind doesn't even mater.
Call me and get in on some of this and also book your spring and summer adventures!

It has to be more wanting live bait than needing it, it surely not needed right now. As far as fresh shrimp you are always better off buying shrimp to eat where ever you do than to pay high prices for 'bait' shrimp that are scrap. Then at least you have shrimp to eat when the fish don't want them. Lol
