This young male coyote was following about 30-40 yards behind another yote. I let the first one pass but decided that I couldn't do the same for this one. He was about 35 yds out and was moving at that constant pace they always seem to keep. At first I thought I had missed because it didn't make a sound and just walked about 15 yards away before collapsing to the ground.
Bowtech Admiral 70# 29-1/2 draw with Beeman ICS Hunters and Magnus Stinger Broadheads. Really did a number on this poor little fella.

I am so excited about big ducks and goose season that even the often maligned spoonie is looking good to me!

Another exciting teal season down and I am only more excited and ready for big ducks and geese! Prior to 2008 I had never been duck hunting, now I wonder how the hell I am going to make up for those 40 years I missed!

That is great! I am on my 3rd year with my bow and have not taken a deer yet. Coyote, raccoon, even a dove...........still no deer! Maybe this year.

A comment titled: You are not alone! in response to a report titled: time to reprioritize, here comes duck season

Trust me you are not alone! I carry my duck calls around like a child with a pacifier, everyday activities become ways to train for duck hunting. Wait for this meeting to be over = patience in the blind. Making coffee at 4am - getting ready to get out there!!

Damien, any days open to try for a few pics or to sling an arrow?

A comment titled: Good Question Admiral in response to a report titled: Coyote

I really don't have an answer for that one Admiral. In all honesty I watched the first one go by and was not happy that I didn't have my camera ready. Maybe I would have let it walk if the camera, instead of the bow, would have been in my hand.
Either way, good, bad or indifferent, I made the shot.... I really wanted to look at him up close.

That sounds like a great plan! I would really love to get some photos of the wood ducks with some morning sun hitting on them. Of course the chance to stick a deer would be great too.

They do not get a free pass from me either! I enjoy them just like any of the other waterfowl.

A comment titled: Camera Cost and Durability in response to a report titled: Teal 2011

Camera equipment can get very pricey but a good way into it is to get an older 'less prestigious' body and better lenses. A common mistake is to buy the latest whiz bang body and then put a $150 lens on works but not really well.

A comment titled: Camera equip in response to a report titled: Teal 2011

Those pics were from a Nikon D700 with an 80-200 zoom and a Leica M8 with a 28mm VC lens.

I love photo'ing them as much as shooting. But they taste better if I actually shoot them... Ha

Thank you for the compliment.

The deer hunting was more like deer waiting, nothing much moving. I am so ready to try my hand at actually calling the big ducks, this is just too awesome!

I really appreciate the call!

A comment titled: DEET! in response to a report titled: Fog and mosquitos

I got me some of that spray with 40% in it..............the mosquitos want NOTHING to do with me! Of course I may grow a third eye after a year or two of using it.

Very nice hunt! We did not do so well on Saturday in the Forked Island area. We still had a blast though!

I had a great time with equal enjoyment of shooting, photography and just general banter! LOADS of FUN!

I like my new gun too! Now I need waders and a cool coat.
