Finished off the season pretty good. 14 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Mix of Teal, Spoonies, Greys, and few green heads and 1 pintail. After struggling most of the second split it was nice to have some ducks working again! About 220 days till next teal season, but whose counting....

February 01, 2010 at 8:26pm

Better late then ever. Hadnt made time to post the pictures yet. We started the second split off right. But since then hunting has been down big time.

My son Ethan is 6 years old and he killed this nice 115 lb doe last Saturday afternoon. He killed in at the Grand Lake Rod and Gun club near Lake Ophelia. It was killed with a Remington 243 and it was about 70 yards away. The doe ran about 30 yards. I really think i was more nervous then him after the shot. We watched the deer for 45 mins before he could get the shot because they had some yearlings and a spike that kept standing either in front or behind her. But he waited till we told him to take the shot. He not only shot but also found the blood on his own. Not bad ethan killed his first duck at 5 with a 20 gauge and his first deer at 6 with 243.

Well pics will come later and possible a few other members may post. But we absolutely murdered the teal this weekend in Lebeau/Whiteville area. Killed over 200 birds in 3 hunts, with only 3 blinds. Yes we were legal with atleast 6 people per hunt plus my 6 year old killed a few. I dont know what final count was but 6x3x3.... Had 1 grey, 1 widgeon, about 5 to 6 spoonies and the rest blue and a few green wing teal.... Best start ever for our property.. I know some people have been down on the year but its hard to say that for us....
ALso my 1 yr old chch lab puppy is doing better then his dad did, not much more i could ask for expect VACATION... good luck to all and remember duck shooting is a little like hitting a baseball the follow through is just as important as the shot (swing)!!!!

November 26, 2009 at 12:22am

We saw a bunch of birds but most of them are decoy shy already. I guess the morons on the side of us shooting every big duck in sight didnt help anything. Wish the game wardens would have been there. I mean everyone makes a mistake now and then thinking there shooting teal but these guys killed atleast 6 summer mallards. Every time we had teal coming in they would blast a big duck and our teal would flare. We had 9 birds that did come in and we got 8 of them. Sad part is these yoo yoo's missed more then they hit and i saw atleast 6 big ducks go down, if they could shoot are call i would hate to know what they would have killed. My buddy paid 6 grand to bring customers duck hunting on this place and the outlaws on the side are gonna ruin his season. Hopefully we can look forward to seeing these guys names in the paper when they get caught.

September 13, 2009 at 11:00am

Well since Sunday the Ducks have been pretty good. My 5 year old killed his first duck (Blue Wing Drake) with a youth model 20 Gauge. My 8 year old nephew killed his first duck also a blue wing drake. Plus we have really been killing quiet a few ducks, mixed between Grays mallards and Teal. So even though my Extrema 2 is now at the Gunsmith, atleast i have a back up gun to start the new year off the correct way tomorrow. Good Luck to everyone hunting tomorrow and have a safe new years eve.

December 31, 2008 at 12:33pm

Limited out in 2 blinds Saturday, 3 Blinds Sunday and 1 Blind on Monday. Teal everywhere with a few Grays mixed in. Its hard to try to wait to see if the big ducks will fly later because we limit out so fast on Teal. This is by for the most ducks we've killed on an opening weekend. Saturday total 7 Grays, 1 Wigeon, 29 Teal. Sunday 7 woodies(1 banded), 2 Green Heads, a couple Grays and the rest teal. Monday morning just 3 hunters in one blind and we killed 18 teal, blue and green wings. Oh and anyone else hunting in the Garland area notice those guys shooting 25 mins before shooting time. They were still there monday morning but they were only 18 mins early. I just don't understand with all the birds in the area why these guys are taking a chance of getting caught shooting that early.

November 18, 2008 at 5:59pm

My godchild killed his first deer. A 120lb doe in Lebeau LA for youth weekend. Man was he excited. It was killed with a 30 Carbine. Perfect Shoulder/Lung Shot. Truman is 7 years old.

November 12, 2008 at 9:34pm

Had a pretty good teal season then my male finally took care of business. My first litter of lab pups. Born 10-23-08. Blacks, Yell's,Choc's, and one White. 12 puppies and so for all have survived. Mother Nature is awesome.

November 01, 2008 at 12:34am

I am just wondering who else is ready for November. Tired of working and ready to hunt.

October 03, 2007 at 4:56pm

OK i have a Garmin GPS handheld nothing special. I had in the boat a few weeks back and one of the buttons fell off. Not i have to stick a pin in it just to use it. Can anyone tell me if there are any repair shops around the Lafayette area or should i try to send it back to Garmin.
Thanks in advance.

September 26, 2007 at 12:24pm

went to mermentua and caught a few fish yesterday morning. Brought my 4 year old and my buddy brought his girlfriend so it was one hell of a trip. With 5 of us fishing and ended up with 17 reds and a black drum. We threw back probably 3 or 4 16" reds so could have had close to our limit if we wanted. My 4 year old had a blast had to nice reds pop his line so i ended up hooking the rest and letting him just real them in. Bite was on early shut down at like 830.

September 24, 2007 at 3:43pm

Well Ole Redeye is always catching them big specs and reds. But look the smile on his face when he catches the big black drum. BLACK DRUM SMACK DOWN!!! HA but guys how many people actually catch these big fish on artificial. Redeye did!!
Figured you would get a kick out of this Redeye

September 19, 2007 at 4:28pm

Well Redeye called me yesterday afternoon to go hunting but as much as i wanted to i passed up the trip because some people have to work for a living. I guess next time i will be using a sick day or something. Well atleast he sent me a picture of what i would have been involved in today. Congrats Redeye dont forget about me when you get back from offshore.

September 18, 2007 at 8:31am

Alright. I have nothing against Browning or any other gun Mfg. But i have a buddy who has this Beretta Extrema 2 and it is awesome. He has it without the kick off system and for an additional $400 i can deal with out it. My wife is getting me one for a gift and i was just wondering if anyone has any good/bad things to say about it. I am getting it in Max 4HD 3½". Not a bad Anniversery Gift. Well actually she said it is Anniversery, Birthday, and Christmas. But i dont care atleast i get rid of shooting my cheap pump.

September 17, 2007 at 11:47am

Just thought all you tiger fans might enjoy this. This is a grooms cake.

September 14, 2007 at 8:24am

I posted the picture of the fish on this last trip already. But look at the great fishing buddies i had. We limited out on reds but talk about a miserable ride home. Everyone SLEEPING.

September 12, 2007 at 11:27am

Pictures of last few trip offshore. Enjoyed the last few days of prime fishing because hunting season is here.

September 12, 2007 at 11:23am

Anybody know if there are any teal in the whiteville-lebeau area. I am going check out my blind friday morning see if its worth hunting saturday morning. So i will let everyone know. But if anyone has anything form that area please let me know.

September 12, 2007 at 11:21am

Well went out of the mermentua yesterday and went to the first rig but before we could really get after it a storm ran us out. So we stop at the bridge and bam the reds turned out limited out in no time all on artificial. So we headed to rockefella to try to catch some specs and ended up hooking one big red and it popped the line. But all in all a good day. Crabs and shrimp not running in the afternoon and not sure if there were in the morning. Well good luck to all and next post will hopefully be some teal pictures. oh and we caught one big garfish in rockefella. Pictured

A comment titled: Second split in response to a report titled: Duck season recap

Uncle bud, don't forget you were in del rio for the 3 hunts we made during opening of the second split and also u didn't hunt this past weekend. So I would say your blin coul have easily pulled another 40 to 50 birds the second split. Plus we both did a lot let hunting this year. So even though last year was our best year and we may never match it again we still had a better then average year this year!!!
Wouldn't mind being in the blind right now!! ENE wind with light rain? Bet them ducks is moving especially is your blind.

A comment titled: Knife in response to a report titled: thats all folks

Growing up i remember my mom asking my dad why he always came back from the camp with one less sock then he did before? I would always laugh and tell here nature called. I have a buddy that would cut his underwhare off and another that used to cut the sleeves off his shirt. When nature calls there isnt much you can do i guess. But atleast napkins are biodegradeable....

A comment titled: Angry in response to a report titled: Trespassers!! What can I do?

Hey guys hunting season is pretty much over. But lets all settle down. No need for skull dragging. We all have our own opinions but if someone is hunting a 100 yards from your blind in a 40 ft wide canal you mean you wouldnt be upset. Especially if your paying a few grand for your lease??? There is public land all over the state, it may be a little harder hunting but thats life. I have hunted public land, i have leased land, and now i am blessed with great land that my in laws own. It seems people forget what ethical hunting is sometimes. Guy L has been to our property before with Uncle Bud for a snipe hunt i think. There are plenty guys on this website who have hunted with us.

Ever been fishing in BIG LAKE. The guys think they own the place. We were catching fish by the old jetties a few years back, about 50 yards or so off the rocks anchored and this yo you guide passes between us and they rocks right where we were casting. As horrible as it was and yes i wanted to kill him there was nothing i could do, cause its public. But the guys on the guide boat happened to be at the launch when we were leaving and apploigized and said they were never going with that service again. Why? Because even though it wasnt illegal it was unethical and just a rude thing to do!!!!!

A comment titled: Brother in law in response to a report titled: Not a bad finish

I guess our total count for the year was some where around 800+. Probably 85% teal, which most were blue wing and the rest mixed??? I quit counting at 650 ducks between christmas and new years....

A comment titled: Beast in response to a report titled: Not a bad finish

Yeah he is a beast that missed the 2 best weekends for Big Ducks this year.... Yeah those 4 mallards that got out your blind on the way out yesterday were laughing at you... Just kidding. I was happy to finish off strong.

A comment titled: Blue Bill in response to a report titled: not a bad day with no robo

Yeah a buddy of ours called them blue bills but told us they were ring necks. They do look a lot like Scaup (blakck jack) I never heard of them called (do gris) until i saw it on this website, but he said that the extra ring around the back of the bill is the major thing to look for. Either way we new we were legal. Sam is my brother in law and the dog is mine. We been killing those RING NECKS (Blue Bills) this whole second split out of Sams blind. Let me tell you they fly Fast on that open water. KIND of like calling Fresh Sausage and Green Sausage. Something along that I-10 Line seperates language!! HAHA

A comment titled: Gun Used in response to a report titled: Ethan 1st deer

By the way all Ethan could say about the kick of the gun is that is was less then the 20 gauge. He shot it 8 times at different yardage last week practicing. This gun was not a youth model. So dont be scared to let you kids shoot the 243. Ethan only weighs 60 lbs or so and he had no problems.

A comment titled: Labs in response to a report titled: Ducks and Dogs

I cant tell you how many times we would have lost birds without a dog. We hunt WRP property that has Willow trees 20 foot tall and dogs have to have a good nose. I have a 9 1/2 year old black that i recently retires do to arthritis. He picked up a few thousand ducks over the years and tought me many things on training. Luckily i kept a puppy of last years litter and at only 13 months old has already picked up atleast a 150 ducks. He is out the rest of this split do to a cut on his paw but should be ready for Dec 19th. Only problems he is having so for is dealing with the cold weather in the deep water. Jumping off my dog stand at 37 degrees last Saturday was a new experience for him. Without him being able to hunt this weekend almost makes me not want to hunt. I never realized that half the hunt is having my dog with me.

A comment titled: Bad Boy in response to a report titled: Golf cart style instead of ATV?

I have a good fried that has a bad boy. The only probems we noticed were that if you went through a lot of mud the batteries didnt last long. And 1 time he his some water and it shut off. We drug it back to the camp and about an hour or so later it started working again. We spoke with mechanic and he said it is an electric cart and water can cause problems. But like i said it happeded once. Other then these 2 problems and it weighing 1700 lbs it is really neat. Its quite and has a good bit of room.

This may be a little late. But Drake has a 4 in 1 parka and i love it. I actually have 2 of them. A few years ago it was just water resistent and last year they came out with the water proof one. They are pricy but well worth it. You get 2 jackets and it pretty much covers beginning to end of the season.

A comment titled: 5 Miles West of Lebeau in response to a report titled: Let's Hear The Teal Reports

We hunt 5 miles or so west of Lebeau and we had a lot of teal 2 weeks ago but we had to drain some of our area becuase of the water board complaining. Went sit in the blind Monday morning and only saw 2 teal and about 60 wood ducks. Hopefully the shooting Saturday morning sends some flocks our way.

A comment titled: LIFE in response to a report titled: okay day

I hunt as many days as work will allow and we have had a great season. Close to 750 birds killed between the 3 blinds and counting teal season. First of all if you tag your birds properly like we do then you have no issue with poss limit. I am not sure who you are uncle john but get a life. I have a total of 3 birds in my freezer because i have a wife and a 5 year old that eat ducks plus i have different friends that come every trip. Actually all the birds that were killed this weekend went back to Houston witht the guys that hunted with us. But no matter what read the reg book. Because i really believe you don't understand how the poss. limit works. I used to post on this site regularly but all the B.S. going on(people like you JOHN), it has shut me down. Lets go out and enjoy the outdoors, then share it with everyone else during the week. Remember like your MOMMA said when you were little. If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all. A TROPHY is different for everyone, so think about what you say to people before you say it.

Good luck to all the real hunters and sportsman out there.
