Looking for some help.I am new to using food plots, I have always hunted public property and not private. We are headed to the camp this weekend to seed the food plots. Someone went last week to put out lime but ran out and I am pretty sure my area was one of the ones that did not get. I found out last night that a soil test was never done on the property either. His food plots have always been hit or miss in the past and I do not want to waste money on seed if the soil does not even have the proper chemical composition yet. I have always heard food plots should be planted mid to late August to early September. If I buy a kit to test the soil this weekend would I hurt myself worse by planting the 3rd weekend of September than this weekend.

I have been reading a lot on here the the best time for trout action is when the tides change. Does this mean fishing when it hits high tide or low tide, or does this mean fishing when it starts changing to the other. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Both. I had not seen any comments prior to losing service. I will be sending a soil sample to LSU today but I also put out the lime pellets to be on the safe side.

Depending on the area I am hunting I either put out 2 separated V's angled approx 45 degrees with a couple of sets of 2 of 3 teal closer to the bank 'OR' I put them out as Larry suggested in separate groups spaced out in the water. Both work Great

The spillway would still be accessible by boat boat. Both the boat launches are still open as far as i know you just wouldn't be able to drive to the back with a truck.

The first part of the prairie you get to when you get out of the cut is not limited access but you would need to be one of the first people there. As far as the limited access side, i hunted there and watched the game wardens running around blind to blind checking people in a surface drive .

I used to duck hunt all the time in Norco. I tried going taking a ride earlier this year and a gate was put up blocking the lake side of the spillway from the airline bridge. If you are trying to avoid a long drive and boat ride to the wax I would suggest trying the prairie in Manchac. I am from the area and don't mind answering questions or helping if you need anything else.
