Duck season is finally here in Delacroix. All of the anticipation finally ends this weekend as we kick off the coastal zone opener. I had a chance to get an early jump on the hunting with the youth weekend. It was a sign of good things to come as my youth hunters got their limit. The morning started off way better than I thought with a group of pintails trying to come into the decoys before shooting light. Once it was shooting time, the blue wing teal started to buzz. My youth hunters shot a bunch. It won’t be long before they really get a feel for it and are knocking down birds on a regular basis.

I called in a group of grey ducks, but the hunters missed. We even had some black-bellied whistling ducks come in, but once again the hunters missed lol! We have plenty of feed left in our ponds I am very excited to be blessed by another year without any hurricanes.

It’s been a long week of dressing blinds and scouting. The thunderstorms haven’t made it any easier but we are just about prepped and ready for the weekend. I am booked up for opening weekend but I do have spots open for first split.

Hunting with me is as about a comfortable experience as you can get. I have my boat set up for everyone to hunt out of. You sit comfortably in the boat as we pick the best spot to hunt. My dog Ella retrieves all the ducks and I do all the work! All you have to do is show up with your gun and your shells and I will take care of the rest! If you want to hunt Delacroix this season, give me a call. We also do Louisiana blast and cast trips.

This fishing is as good as it gets right now in Shell Beach, Louisiana. It’s just a magical time of year when the weather finally starts to cool off and the harvest season begins. The marsh is full of shrimp and the fish have taken notice. They are schooling up and feeding actively right now. I don’t think you could pick a better time to come fishing. Book your New Orleans fishing trips as soon as possible. Days are filling up fast.

We have been taking several large groups lately. I run my business so that I can take groups of any size. I work with several other charter captains on large groups and we make sure our clients have the best chance for success. All of the captains I work with have a lifetime of experience on the water and most have fished this area their entire lives. When you combine that many years of experience, you get to see the great Louisiana fishing trips that we have been having.

We were fishing trout on the outside for a while but they seem to have migrated further in. I am focusing on major waterways in the interior marsh. Places where multiple bayous come together or passes in between bays. I fish exclusively with Campo’s live shrimp. My clients spend good money to fish with me so I want to use the most effective bait there is. No hungry fish will turn down a live shrimp. You can get by with plastics Im sure, but live bait is the simplest way for a boat of clients to get on the fish.

We will be fishing everyday this fall. If you want to get on a Shell Beach speckled trout fishing trip, please contact me. We will also be offering Louisiana duck hunts starting in November.

If you would like to book a hunt or schedule a fishing trip you can contact me, Capt. Jimmy Corley by phone at (504) 258-4431 or by email at cap.jimmy.corley@gmail.com. The dog days of summer are coming to an end in Shell Beach, LA and the trout are taking notice. The great fall speckled trout run is starting and nobody is happier about it than me. Trout are no doubt my favorite species to target, but conditions can alter trout fishing more so than they do redfish. I’m fine with catching redfish too, my customers love it, but there’s just something about catching a limit of 100 or more trout that gets me going.

I think the New Orleans trout fishing will only get better from here. We are lucky that we didn’t get any major storms and all the conditions are lining up. The white shrimp are already on the inside, so now the trout just have to wrap up their spawning cycles and start moving to the interior. The trout are starting to school up pretty good and that is helping me target them. I am not fishing the interior quite yet but you can tell the trout are staging up to start moving in.

Redfishing is as good as ever. We are catching bull reds where we trout fish. There’s nothing like seeing my clients get excited about hooking up with a bull redfish. After we land the fish and take a few pics we get back to trout fishing.

I did have some clients recently who requested redfish. Our trip was very successful as they caught their limit and then played catch and release for a while. The recent heat wave has made fishing past 11am pretty tough, but we start early and it’s pretty comfortable with a nice breeze in the morning hours.

It’s been a fun summer fishing out of Shell Beach. We had some really great trips with my clients. We targeted trout any time the conditions allowed. On a really windy day, it’s hard for us to get to the good trout fishing because trout have migrated into saltier coastal waters for their summertime spawning pattern. When the wind picks up it creates a lot of wave action in open water making it dirty and hard to fish. On these days we turn to interior fishing spots for the fun-fighting redfish! This summer was a good mix of fishing for both species. We will be catching trout well into the fall, so book your Louisiana speckled trout fishing charter soon.

I am still catching trout right now. I am using Campo’s live shrimp under a popping cork and focusing on oyster reefs on the outer bays. I am putting my lifetime of experience to use for my customers to find trout and redfish. Just last week we had a great trip for trout with one of my ongoing corporate clients. I love helping my corporate clients entertain their customers. It helps both of our businesses and everyone has fun.

As we transition into September I am also working on my duck blinds for the early teal season. This can be a fun trip to go hunting with me- especially if you combine it with a fishing trip to make a blast and cast.

Let’s ROCK and roll this July with some redfish and Waterfowl Specialist. I say that because it’s all about the rocks right now. My clients are loving catching these redfish and I am targeting wherever I can find groups of rocks. Mainly around Lake Borgne and in the MRGO. As always I am using Campos live shrimp under a popping cork. The bait redfish are feeding on hang around the rocks for protection. This can be anything from small crabs to finger mullet. I have been finding areas where the water is clean and there is a line of rocks. We put the trolling motor down and work down the rocks. My clients are casting right next to the rocks and just waiting to see their corks go down!

This is a fun way to fish and it’s perfect for entertaining your clients. It doesn’t really matter what someone’s skill level is- if they can cast, they can catch. These types of fishing trips are a great way to show someone you appreciate their business. And can assure you, I always show up ready to work. I know when a business sends their clients fishing with me, it’s important that I show them a good time. Professionalism is a must here at Waterfowl Specialist.

Recently I had Michael, Pete, and Omar from United Rentals. I took them to the rocks and they put the hurting on some redfish. We even had some so big we put them back. No need to waste the big ones when there are plenty of smaller ones to take home for dinner.

As always our lodge is open to my customers. The camp is 1100 square feet with three bedrooms and two baths. We have a screened in patio and a downstairs area to cook and relax. We have everything you need in the camp all you need to do is just bring groceries. We accept no groups too big or too small as we have other camps available to accommodate your group.

We recently had a group of veterinarians down to fish with us. Jeff Reed booked the trip. Jeff likes to take his veterinarian clients on fishing trips to show them he appreciates their business. We love helping Jeff out with these trips and we know how important his customers are. If you want to treat your clients to a fishing trip, we would be happy to help. We can accommodate groups of any size. We have lodging available and I work with the best charter captains to make sure everyone is catching fish and having a good time.

This trip was a redfish smackdown. The trout have been very hit or miss out of Shell Beach lately. We got on a few groups of trout recently but you have to weed through them to find any keepers. There are a lot of short trout in the schools so we decided to go after redfish. I expect things will get back to normal as we finish out this current moon cycle. Trout should be biting again soon.

We are leaving the dock early after loading up with Campo’s live shrimp. It gets daylight by 6:30 am so we have to leave early. We also don’t want to beat our clients up in the heat so we get out early and get our fish caught before it gets too hot.

Our clients are loving the Waterfowl Specialist camp in Shell Beach. They especially love the air conditioning after a morning in the sun! The camp has everything you need, all you need to bring is your groceries. It’s clean and right on the water so that you can wake up and go fishing.

Times are good down here in Shell Beach, Louisiana at Wildfowl Specialist Guide Service. This really is a great time of year to be fishing in South Louisiana. If you?re coming to visit New Orleans this summer, you have to come down to St. Bernard Parish to see what our fishing is all about. New Orleans fishing trips are a great add on to your trip.

As usual I am spending my summer fishing for speckled trout. I just cannot get enough of putting my clients on these trout. We leave early in the morning before sunrise to get to the best spots for prime time. As always I am using live shrimp from Campo?s marina. I just don?t think you can beat live shrimp for trout and Campo?s is simply the best.

It takes hard work to stay on speckled trout. They move around a lot, but I keep putting my years of experience to work to make sure my clients keep catching. I am targeting oyster reefs where shrimp and other bait tend to congregate. This is where the trout come to feed when they are not spawning this time of year. I am fishing the live shrimp 3ft under a popping cork on these oyster reefs.

I do have clients who request to catch redfish, and this is a great time of year for bull reds. I had a trip recently with a group from Wisconsin that wanted bull reds. We ran out to the edges of the marsh and Breton Sound and layed it down on the reds. It was really fun to watch my clients see what Louisiana redfish charter trips are all about.

Clients have also enjoyed staying at my camp in Shell Beach. The camp is 1100 square feet with three bedrooms and two baths. We have a screened in patio and a downstairs area to cook and relax. We have everything you need in the camp all you need to do is just bring groceries. We accept no groups too big or too small as we have other camps available to accommodate your group. So if you are looking for a Louisiana charter fishing trips, come see us.

Last night and today i was honored to have some of New Orleans very own legendary guys of sports and the outdoors, Don Dubuc, Jim Henderson, Kristian Garic, and Ms. Jennifer Gajan. Everyone arrived at the lodge to enjoy some of our home cooked Cajun meal. We had prepared blacken alligator for appetizer, a red snapper over crab stuffing with a cream sauce, crawfish pasta, and side salad for the main course, then we finished it off with a strawberry cheese cake. It was an experience being able to sit around with everyone and listening to them reminisce over the past. This morning we left the dock at 6am and ran down south to one of my spots and we picked up a few, then proceeded to another spot and it was on. Jim started it all off catching fish before anyone got a bite. Before long Don and Kristian started in on the action. Couldn't ask for a better day! A beautiful day, a box of fish, and memories that will last a lifetime. I'm looking forward to our next trips. If you would like to book a hunt or schedule a fishing trip you can contact Capt. It's that time of the year again for the shells to fly, the ducks fall, and the dogs to retrieve! We are now scheduling duck hunts for 2017/2018 season. With the numbers up on Gadwalls and Blue-winged teals it should be a successful season. The marsh is healthy and all of our ponds are full of vegetation with small snails just what we like to see for the season. The dates are set for Nov.11th - Dec.3rd, Dec.16th - Jan.21st.

To make for a more comfortable time we have a three bedroom camp that has 6 beds, two baths, cable tv, and a front porch all on the upper deck. On the lower deck there is a closed in porch with a BBQ pit, boiling pot with table and chairs to hang out and relax. So come on down to Southeast Louisiana and give us at Waterfowl Specialist Guide Service a call and schedule your hunting trip today!

Yesterday i had the pleasure of guiding some of my regulars Jeff Rousseau, his son Max, and Jeff's good friend Dmitry Kuimov. We were met with a stiff wind 12-16 knots out of the NE, which made me have my work cut out for me. The first stop we had to pick through them so we made a move and it was on! One after another Max was ripping them in and Jeff and Dmitry were not far behind. All fish were caught on 13 Omen rods, Penn Conflict reels, Speck-A-Nater corks, and Campo's live shrimp. With all this rain we have been having it's making it hard to get some good fishing in. When there is a brake in the weather we are able to go out and still bring in a pretty box of fish. With the high waters we have an opportunity to catch Red fish way back in the shallow ponds. Also we have been having a lot of dirty water but when we do find clean water we also find the trout stacked up. While down in Shell Beach don't pass up a chance to stay at our lodge. It's a great way to relax after a good day of fishing. Here are a few pictures of what we have been catching when the weather permits. The weather looks great next week, a little hot but no rain. Yesterday i had Jason who is from Atlanta Georgia. He came down to Louisiana and wanted to get on some reds. We started off in an area where i've been hanging out and putting limits together. With a northwest wind blowing we couldn't get into the shallow ponds due to low tide so we stood on the outer edges fishing washouts and pockets. We defiantly had to put in the work for them. The reds were not stacked but we kept at it with beating the banks and fishing hard we were able to put a nice box together. i think it's safe to say Jason had a good time despite the challenging conditions, he scheduled a blast and cast for him and his buddy this fall and i look forward to seeing them both! I would recommend not bringing a dog. I was out yesterday and today and have seen several gators. For youth weekend I had one about 7' in the pond eating some of the kids' ducks. The water temperature is running between 72-73 degrees and the water is still in the marsh. With this east wind it will stay there, it looks like.
