Going to the Point tomorrow afternoon to try to catch a few fish after work. Any tips on where I should go to try to catch a few reds and a few trout? Any tips on baits to use? Haven't fished the Bay since December of last year and just want to catch a few fish. Thanks

Saturday I got to take my dad and sis trout fishing out of the Point. it was the first time I had got to taken my dad fishing in a few years and my sisters first saltwater fishing trip ever. Left the dock about 5am and headed offshore. My sis caught her first trout which weighed about 2.5 pounds. we ended up catching our 75 trout then tried to go catch some snapper. couldnt get the snapper to bite but my sis caught her first ling...not too big but a great size ling for her first one and we caught one more ling before heading in. Fished on Father's day with my cousin out of the Point. headed off shore about 5am and caught our limit of 50 gorgeous and big trout. They averaged about 3 pounds and had 1 trout over 6 pounds. Great weekend at the Point

Was in Rexmere,LA , outside of Marksville, this weekend at a family friends camp for opening weekend of squirrel season with friends and family. Had a great weekend riding 4wheelers, hunting, all kinds of good food, playing music, and shooting guns. Hunted saturday morning and I killed 1 squirrel and wounded a coyote i saw chasing 2 spotted fawns. we killed a total of 40 squirrels on opening day between all the hunters. hunting was good until the wind started blowing then that killed the hunting. no one made the hunt Sunday morning due to too much drinking and no one at the camp was really prepared for the cold weather and with all the wind we had in the morning. Can't wait till next time

Well this report is very late. Hunted you weekend with some friends in the Basin, halloween weekend. After Saturday morning's hunt, we were all pretty worried since none of us saw anything while hunting but we kept our hopes high. Well Saturday evening's hunt was alot better than the morning hunt. My friend Daniel saw 2 or 3 big does and 1 fawn. Well he didn't think twice about shooting one of the does. He dropped a 110 pound doe at 65 yards. I was getting a little uneasy as the hunt went on because i had seen only 1 armadillo and 1 rabbit. With about 45 minutes left of enough light to shoot, sure enough a big and old 6 point came out of the woods at 170 yards walking at a angle towards me but also to the other side of the shooting lane. Luckily he stopped long enough for me to get a shot off on him at 160 yards. I knew I hit him well so i waited 10 or so minutes to go look for blood. Well I started getting worried really quick when I couldnt find blood, so once every one got back to the camp from there hunt it was time to go look for my deer. I knew where he ran into the woods so thats where we started looking. Luckily Mr. Kenny, had brought the Q-beam with us because when we were about 50 yards in the woods, he started to shine the light and saw the deer laying on the ground dead. Thats when the excitement started happening! when we dragged my deer out of the woods, we followed the blood trail out but the blood trail started only 20 to 30 yards from where we found the deer. the deer weighed in around 180 pounds and we think its 3.5 to 4.5 years old. What a great and fun weekend! Can't wait to get back out in the woods to kill another deer.

Fished out of the Point Saturday and yesterday, Tuesday. Well Saturday was pretty rough and windy and hard fishing. Started off in teh cove but didnt stay there to long because so rough. Headed to the Hamock and caught a few reds but only 1 was legal. Made the long and bouncy/wet ride to Shark Bayou. Went back into one of the cuts and caught only 1 red and thankfully it was legal. Ended the day with 2 reds. Yesterday was rough and windy again. Didn't even attempt to go to the cove. Just headed straight to Shark Bayou. Started the day off in the same cut I ended in on Saturday. On my 4th cast of the day, caught a 16 1/2 inch red and that was it for the day. Went to another cut later on after having only 1 more bite. Went into a pond that was full of bait and saw reds rolling on the bait and a few tailing. They just didnt want anything we threw at them. Hard to compete with live bait. And saw a few big trout too but they didnt want anything we threw at them either. 1 red for the day and alot of grass. After 3 trips to the Point, total legal fish caught was 6 reds and thats it. Now gonna have to wait till after August 6th to fish again. Leavin saturday for summer camp in north texas for 3 weeks. Can't wait to get back on the water.

Went to the Point yesterday morning with a friend to try to catch some fish. Hooked up on a few trout but lost them. Caught 4 reds but was only able to keep 3 of them. 2 were 17 inches and 1 was 22 inches to 24 inches long. Not what we were hoping for but still a good and fun day on the water. Caught 2 of the reds on a avacado cocahoe minnow, 1 red on a popping cork with bait shrimp, and 1 red on bait shrimp sittin' on the bottom. The few trout were caught on LSU and Avacado colored cocahoe minnows. Can't wait to get back out there.

I'm 16 years old and I got a 17' flat boat for Christmas. I want to put a depth finder on it but I'm not sure what to go with. I want something that will last pretty well but not super expensive. I have been looking at Garmin and Eagle. What brand and model would yall recommend? open to any suggestions. Will also consider one that is half gps and half depth finder.
Thanks,

Well now that deer season is almost over for me (feb.15), its time to start pickin up the rods again. I'm wondering if its too early to start fishing the small duckponds and reefs in the marsh around Cocodrie. I want to catch some reds and maybe even some trout if I can to put some fish slime on my new 17' semi-v flat boat that I got for Christmas. What should I look for when trying to find a spot to fish. Where should I start my day of fishing. what type of baits? Any pointers and/or help would definately appreciated.

Well this weekend was a sucess for both my dad and I. He went duck hunting around Lake Arthur and I went with my Uncle to his deer lease in the basin. Saturday morning, My dad and 17 other hunters limited out. And they did the same thing this morning. My uncle and I went to the camp friday night to meet my cousin at the camp. Saturday morning, All of us got up and went out. My uncle didn't see anything and it's been that way on his 7 hunts he's made this season. I had 7 deer on the food plot when i took my doe and my cousin took a doe also. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

This past whole week seemed like it would never come to a end. Tuesday was a half day and ended up gettin thursday off since my school's volleyball team went to state. my highschool just opened it's new building doors last year in november. And this was the 1st year for us to have a true highschool volleyball team. Our tem went un-defeated in district, are district champs, won regionals, and played the first game yesterday in the state finals. Our team ended up losing best out of 5 games. 3-2 with the winning game score being 25-23. so Today at school felt like a monday and it took forever to go bye. One of my friends and I have been countin down the days till the opener for about the last 3 weeks and today we had the hardest time concentrating. Our minds all ways going off to seeing a group of teal or mallards coming into the spread and ending the day with a beautiful mixed limit. Well my dad left today for a friends duck camp and I'm leavin tonight to go with my god father to the deer camp to meet his son who went down there right after school to make a hunt in the mornin then packin up all the huntin gear to bring back home for our thanxgiving break hunts. My god father and his son are makin their anual Kansas trip, which they make every year and I'm headed to Alabama with a friend to their lease. will post report from both my hunt and my dads on sunday. Good luck to all who are huntin in the mornin

For the past couple of days I have been drawing out a 20' long flat boat. I want the boat to have 20" sides and a tunnel hull. But I'm having trouble deciding on what the width of the bottom and beam should be. i have been playing with different sizes but not quite sure what would work. The boat will have a center console. The boat will be used for fishing in the marshes around Cocodrie and the inner bays. I just want some opinions of others sportsmen before I come up with a final drawing.

Sorry the post is so late. been to busy with school to have time to post. This weekend, it was Mr. Kenny Begno, his wife, Donna, her boys tyler and daniel and i. We planned on going to the camp friday afternoon but with the weather, we didnt feel comfortable having to cross two 4 wheelers and a bunch of gear that Mr. kenny always bring or as known as on lasmag.com-onewhobringsmuch. And it wasn't worth getting wet. So we decided to get up early saturday mornin and pack up to go to the camp. once we left the house, we didn't make it but 5 minutes away when we realized that mr. kenny and mrs. donna had forgotten their cell phones, so we turned around and went back to the house. once we finally got that done, we had to go to mrs. donna's parents house to drop off their little dog. We had to go out to Scott to pick up the two 4 wheelers and by this time, its almost 9. we also realized that tyler and daniel needed their deer tags and that there might not be any corn at the camp so had to also get that. My cousin and his friend hunted saturday morning and didn't see a single thing. The camp across the whiskey bay pilot channel, where we always cross the river to get to the camp had killed a spike, a small 8-point and a doe. Once it was finally time to get in the stands, the camp next door to our decided to shoot all different kinds of guns. we heard everything from .22's to shot guns to 7mm mags being fired for about 25 minutes. about 4:45 i had a spike walk run across one of the shooting lanes into some thick cover buth then decided to come back out into the lane where i had put some wildgame innovations acorn rage out. he stayed there eating thatfor a good while. no one else was seeing anything and i remembered that my uncle told me that we needed to harvest some spikes because we had way to many of them on the lease, so it took me about 30 seconds to decide to shoot him. Before i shot him, i decided to see how far he was away from the stand, and he was only 29 yards. I wished i had my bow then. if i would have had it and shot him, that would have been my first archery deer. well i went ahead and shot him and dropped him in his tracks. when i walked up to him, i realized that one of his horns was still in velvet which was pretty neat. i drug him out to the food plot that we have to keep the deer on our part of the island. then walked back to the camp to get a 4 wheeler to bring him back because the stand i hunted was only about 1/2 a mile from the camp. When everyone else got back to the camp, i found out that i was the only one to see deer. the next morning, i decided just to stay at the camp and do some chores around there so i went and brought tyler and daniel to their stands. well they ended up not seeing anything but some black squirrels. Mr. kenny decided that we should fill the feeders up as much as possible that way we could tell how long a full feeder could last till it was almost empty. When we had gone to walmart saturday morning, they had only 1 sack left that was out and it was going to take them 30 minutes to get another pallet of corn so we just decided to pass on that. So Mr. Kenny and daniel left to go baack to breaux bridge to the walmart to get more corn while tyler and i went and did some chores. a little while later, i get a call from Mr. Kenny sayin that he's almost back to the river and is going to need our help with the corn. as tyler and i are standing on the bank waiting for them, we see them coming and realize that the front of the boat is riding a little low. well when they got close, we realized it was because of all the corn he had bought. he ended up buying like 20 or so sacks and a new ladder stand to put up. well he thought we were goin to need a bunch of corn to fill up the feeders. by the time we finished filling up all the feeders to the top, we had only used like 3 1/2 sacks of corn. he also told us that the camp across the river, saturday afternoon had killed 5 more deer. I saw a total of 4 deer the whole weekend. We had a fun time being there and it was a good way to releave some stress. my spike ended up weighing 90# and its horn measured 4 1/2" and 3". can't wait till next weekend when we can get back out in the woods with the rifles again. but for now its back to strictly bow hunting. then we will do both bow and rifle hunting the rest of the weekend. will post some pics from this weekend once i get them loaded on to the computer. good luck to everyone who's going to be in the woods this weekend. Remember, take a kid hunting so you wont have to hunt for them.

My dad and 2 of his freinds went fishing yesterday out of the Point. They caught 75 nice trout, a 7# red, 10# red, and a 32# red. On the way in, there was squall line in between them and the Point but they never got wet. My dad said that there were 1-2' swells but that it wasnt that bad.

OK guys and Gals,
Im headed down to Cocodrie tomorrow after lunch to fish the afternoon and on Sunday mornin. Havent fished down in cocodrie n 2 months and was wonderin if there was some places where either i could go catch some trout on either artificial, top water, or bait shirmp and the same for redfish. Im bringing a friend from school who wants to catch a redfish and a speck and I would like to give him that chance. I will be in a 16' flat bottom boat so the spots can be like in the middle of the bay or something. I know Bayou Terrebonne really well and the ponds around Coco Village, Top Water Charters/Sea Breeze and Laperouyse Grocery. If yall are catchin on artificial, what colors should I try. thanks

Sorry the report is late. Fished last Friday afternoon and Saturday Mornin out of Cocodrie. Friday fished with a friend and ran to Bay la Fleur and caught 30 or so trout in about a hour but had to go back early because the wind started pickin up quickly and was only in a 191 Ranger Cayman flats boat. Saturday ran to the Mardi Gras rig and caught 65 nice trout. All fish in both trips caught on tight lining live cachohoe minnows.will post pics lata.

Has anyone been fishing in the marshes close to Cocodrie lately or around the island in the ship channel close to Cocodrie? I have been wanting to make a trip down there for over a month but mother has always come up with something for my dad and I to do that keeps us from going. This weekend my dad and I are free but we can't go due to me having finals next week. I'm planning on goind down on the 28th after we get out of our last final at noon. We are plannin on fish the next 2 days. I was wondering though if I get down there early enough to fish a couple of hours, how and where should I go try to catch fish. It can't be too far b/c I will only be in a 15' flat and don't want to get to far from land incase a storm pops up. Bringing a friend or 2 from school to get over the stress from finals and want to put them on some reds and drum in the afternoon after we speck fish in the mornin in either my dad's partners 26' Gravois or our freinds 19' Ranger Caymon. I will take any advice on where I should go to try to catch fish. Our camp is in Coco Village but will go to other side of the road facing dulac to fish if need be.
Thanks

My friend and I are making a marsh anchor that floats to use with kayaks, canoes, flat boats and small bay boats. They are made out of wood. At one end, we have shaved down the wood to make it come to a point but left it with a flat end so if you hit it on a reef or something, it won't brake. We put 2 layers of paint on each anchor and 2 coats of a water sealent. Have many different colors and patterns. Solid colors will include- yellow, olive drab green, red, blue, white, hot pink for the ladies, purple, orange, khaiki, brown, and black. Double colors will inlcude- gold and purple- "Fightin Tiger", red and black "Ragin Cajun", blue and White- "La Tech", and camo. We have 4 different models, a 5' pole, a 3 1/2' pole, and 5' pole with a T-handle on top, and a 3 1/2' pole with a t-handle on top. All anchors come with 15' of rope and a stainless steel shackle which will allow you to disconnect the rope from the anchor for storage. They cost $25. It

If you take I-10 East, towards Baton Rouge, you can get off at the Whiskey Bay Exit and when you get to the bottom of the ramp, turn right, heading north, and follow that road for a little ways and you will come up on the Sherbunne WMA. It takes me about 35-45 minutes to get to the Whiskey Bay exit from Lafayette depending on traffic. The Whiskey Bay exit is the exit after the Butte La Rose exit. On the VOO, they are Rotating Boats, and there are SO MANY boats that are on the list, my guess, I have NO idea HOW long that list is, they might not get to all on the list. A comment titled: push pole in response to a report titled: Push Pole?

i have a 16' ganoe which is the same thing as what you have. I went to Academy and bought a duck bill foot for a push pole, then went to Home Depot and got a 12' wooden dowel that had a diameter a little bigger then the hole on the foot. When i got home, i took a sander to one end of the pole and shaved it down to where went I went to put the foot on, it had a snug fit. then i took a stainless steel screw and drilled it into the dowel through the little hole on the side of the foot and I have also drilled completely through the dowel and the other side on the foot and put a nut and bolt. Both ways have worked for me and I have also used those push poles on a heavy 17' semi-V boat and on a 19' flat boat and they are still as strong as they day i bought them. Over all cost for one was about $10-$15. email me if you have any questions

Congrats on the deer Ruthie. You have definately out shot me. The biggest deer so far that i have seen alive in my life was a 4-point. I shoot a 7mm-08 and it has definately done the job for me. I have taken a total of 4 shots with my gun and have killed 4 animals. 2-spikes, 1 doe, and 1 hog. I can definately tell that you were super excited about that. you will never forget that day in the woods with your dad. my dad came in the stand with me once but i didnt see anything. so he quit comin with me to the stand and most of the time to my uncles deer lease. i was all alone in my stand when i shot my first deer and i didn't have anyone to share the joy with till my uncle got there 10 minutes later from his stand. i called my dad when i got back to the camp and all he said was good job to me and that he would see me tomorrow night. so spend as much time in the woods with your dad because you will never forget those days.

I have tried that top water and loved it. I used it in Big lake on July 16th. the guide and i together put 33 trout in the boat because of that bait. I even caught 2 trout at once on that bait. ANother trick I leanred was to work it for 5 yards then stop it for like 5 seconds and keep repeating that step. Look for birds or bait but dont throw it into a huge group of birds that r workin because they will try to pick it up.
