Need some help locating a taxidermist that lives in the Bush area. His workshop/studio was in his garage and he did an excellent job on ducks. I used him years ago but misplaced his phone number. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Dear fellow sportsmen, we need help.

The St. Tammany Home Builders Association will be having our 9th annual fall fishing rodeo at the Coco Marina in Cocodrie this coming weekend. Because we had over 100 people wanting to fish we had reserved almost all of the rooms in the area. Due to some unusual circumstances many of our scheduled participants do not have their accommodations at Boudreaux’s as they were reserved months ago. Therefore, at this last minute they are “out in the cold” and we are trying to find lodging for about 20 people in the Cocodrie / Chauvin area. The CoCo Marina, Sandpiper, etc are all booked up.

We thought of camps for rent but we do not have any way of knowing how to contact the owners. If anyone knows how to contact anyone for any camp to rent for Friday / Saturday / Sunday please email me. Or you can contact the St. Tammany Home Builders Association office at (985) 882-5002.

Thanks for any help you can give us and I look forward to reporting the results of our fishing weekend.

After I recently renewed my recreational trawl license my friend and I had a discussion on the changing rules with lifetime licenses. When I purchased my Combination Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License in 1992 it covered basic hunting, big game hunting, muzzleloader, bow hunting, state duck stamp, turkey hunting, WMA hunting, freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing, and all other items that fell under those category licenses. At that time there was not any “gear” licenses. Hence, a 16’ trawl, crab nets, crawfish nets, etc fell under “recreational” and therefore was under the recreational fishing license umbrella. So, in my mind, when I bought the combo license, everything covered under “recreational fishing” at that time was covered by the lifetime license.

Now, in addition to the lifetime fishing license, you must purchase “gear” licenses. All lifetime "gear licenses" are separate at a cost of 10 times the annual fee and no longer included regardless of when you purchased your lifetime license. That means that the contract the state made with me for the provisions of the license have now changed so that I again have to buy a trawl license to shrimp, a crab trap license to crab, a crawfish net license to crawfish and a cast net license to cast. Being conservative and looking at just the licenses that I know used to be covered and their respective annual costs today, I would have to spend at least ANOTHER $110 x 10 or $1100 to retain what I already paid the state for. This is in addition to what I already paid.

My friend contacted LDWF about this issue. After a lengthy conversation with a lady who didn’t know what was in effect 15 years ago, she said that the Lifetime license NEVER covered any gear. But in 1992 there weren’t any gear licenses. The bottom line was too bad. That’s the way it is!

I could understand if they started requiring a license for something that used to be free to all but how can they change the conditions of a contract after it has been executed? Where will it stop? What else are they going to exclude? Does this mean that they can change the rules at any time and we don’t have anything to say about it?

What are your thoughts?
