Well yesterday I finished my season. I shot my largest deer to date so far. A really nice 8 point. I had gotten a lot of pictures of him through out the year. I started season for archery season. I decided to try a cross bow. I ended up killing both of my does with it, It is a devastating piece of equipment. I ended up missing really nice buck opening morning of rifle season, Two weeks later I got a nice 6 point. Weighed 182 pounds. Jan 2nd I killed a nice 11 point, he was young but carried a nice rack, He weighed 155 pounds. I think he had lost some weight due to the rut. Yesterday it rained all day. At 3 the rain started slacking off. We went to the stand. At 4 deer came out at the end of the power line. I grunted, he froze, but wouldn't come in. He was broad side so I took the shot. He was about 330 yards. he ran about 50 yards and piled up. He had been rutting hard, His stomach was sucked in, he had no fat at all when we cleaned him. he weighed 162 pounds. I'm sure he was pushing close to 190 before the rut. Time to start fishing now.
Any dog owners that uses Purina products you may want to check your dog food really well. Yesterday my wife notice something in the dog food. Upon further inspection the somethings were moving. We started researching and found that Purina has an issue that has been going on for several months now. Lots of post from people who have food that is infested with Pantry Moths. I ended up spending almost 4 hours cleaning out pantry. I had to wipe all shelves and walls down. Pantry was full of them. Lots of cocoons, and larvae all over in corners and under shelves. They will get in any open dry foods. Cereal, rice, flour, crackers, Etc. I threw away two contract size garbage bags of food away, along with a rubber made container half full of dog food. It will not have along term effect on dogs, but it will give them severe diarrhea. Which two of our dogs have had the last couple of days. I would hate to think what we would have ended up with had we not caught it.
Started feeding protein feed and soy beans a year ago. I feel it is starting to make a difference. We typically shot 120 in deer. I think I might have a couple at 130 inch. I can't wait till Oct to get here.
So I am asking opinion of other people that have been in my shoes. I am struggling with making the decision to put Bear down. He is my chocolate lab. I have had him since he was 9 weeks old, He is 13 1/2 now. He was one of the best dogs I have ever had. This morning I found him on the living room floor in the split position un able to get up in a pile of poo. He is still eating good, but he is unable to do to much more than that. He doesn't want to go out any more. He goes out long enough to potty then he is at the door barking to come in. He never did that before. He also has gotten to where he leaves trails to poo. It is like he is unable to squat in one spot to poo. This sucks, just last year he tracked a deer, and retrieved a few birds.
So I finally bought a bay boat. Been shopping and saving for a while. I bought a 22' Blazer Bay. So I took some vacation days and weekend off and headed down to Cocodrie. We caught a lot of fish the last week. Every day except last Saturday was slow. As long as we had live shrimp we were catching fish. When the live bait ran out the bite was over. Fast forward to Wednesday the last day. We get home and start vacuum packing fish and cleaning the boats. My thumb started hurting and swelling some. Well I cleaned it good, and looked for shrimp sticker. Didn't find a sticker, I don't think it broke in there. I woke up yesterday and the swelling had moved to the palm of my hand. I came into work and it was bearable, but about 3 o clock my wrist started hurting. By the time I made it home my hand was not usable. I couldn't move any of my fingers or my wrist. So I went to Ochsner urgent care ( was a waist of time ) . I got home, and the pain got much worse, so I headed to Thibodaux Hospital. They actually looked at my hand unlike the other place. Gave me a couple of strong antibiotics, and some pain meds. This morning it feels better, still swollen and some pain, but no where as bad as yesterday.
Guys, stay on top of that crap, the water is warming up, and it doesn't take much to make something small as a shrimp sticking you to turn out bad. I will be putting some spray bottle with bleach in them in the boat this week.
Ok, so I have a question. After saving for quit a while I am ready to buy a boat. I actually found one a couple weeks ago, and negotiated a good deal, but then my issues started. I was planning to finance the boat through my credit union at work. I also called the local bank that I deal with in Houma. They are both telling me in order to get a boat loan now, you have to provide a copy of the titles for the Boat, Motor, & trailer. Issue is that these items weren't required a few years ago, and it seems that a lot of people don't have all these items. This morning I found the exact same boat just 2 years newer, but the same issue. The owner doesn't have all the titles. Anyone have any idea how to get around this or solve this problem?
Well I don't think these Mississippi deer are used to this. Last time I saw this much snow I was working in Russia. I doubt they will move this morning, but it's pretty to see. Lots of noise in the woods with trees falling
Took my annual vacation for opening of bow season. The week started off extremely hot, and with winds bad for most of my hunting spots. We finally got a cool front, and the winds shifted. Monday afternoon I went to a spot I had been waiting to get into. The winds died down about 5:30, and at 6:00 I saw movement coming out of the thicket. I had 3 doe's come in at about 15 yards. Made the shot and watch the deer bolt off. Due to a previous bad experience. if I don't see them fall over. I back out and give them some time. I went to the camp and ate supper, got bear ready for a hopefully short tracking job, then went get ice. Headed to the property, and brought Bear to the spot of the shot. About 75 yards later I see Bear licking blood off the deer and the white belly. This will probably be his last year. He is getting up in age, he was wore out after the job. The grim reapers did a great job again. The deer weighed 113 lbs.
Anyone have a contact for bulk soybeans? I live in Houma, but could travel a reasonable distant if needed.
Hunted this morning and I saw a good bird, but he was far away, and wouldn't come in. They never gobbled this morning. I went get everything ready for tomorrow morning close to where he was. Decided to go sit on powerline behind camp. Did one good call sequence, and just sat back. Bird came in silent. I didn't even know he was there. I had to cough, and when I did, I saw something move. He tried to run, but I got on him quick, and rolled him. Hevi Shot is bad a**. Bird weighed 19 1/2 pounds, had 11' beard, and 1 1/4' spurs.
This morning my lab went missing. I left for work and my wife let him out. He usually stays in the yard, but he went venturing this morning. I have looked for him all morning. I live in Gray La in Wallace J Thibodaux subdivision. He is a big Chocolate male. He weighs about 100 pounds. His name is Bear. If anyone in the area hears of a found chocolate lab please contact me 985-226-4973
We hunted Saturday & Sunday. Stevie got his first turkey 17 pounds 8 1/2 in beard. He was super excited, and made a great shot. Bird hung up for over 45 minutes. Wouldn't come closer than 50 yards
Spending some time at the camp this weekend. Planted summer food plots with iron clay peas. I also planted about 250 watermelon plants and 50 cantaloupe. Hunted yesterday morning and heard a few birds but didn't see anything. This morning I went back, and the birds were gobbling early. I had 2 jakes fly down on the pipeline, and came into to the decoys. A hen flew down with them, and they walked off. Still hearing a bird on the roost I waited. About 15 minutes later I called a little and had a gobble instantly. at first I thought it was one of the jakes. Sure enough bird walks out coming my way. When I looked good I realize it was a different bird. He wouldn't commit to decoys, but came close enough. I hit him the first shot and he took off, I shot him again as he tried to fly, then again for good measure. bird only weighed 17.5 pounds, had 9 1/2 inch beard and 1 1/4 in spurs
Made it to the camp yesterday afternoon. Tried to locate some birds, but didn't see anything. I went in blind this morning. I decided to get in the middle of the property and hope for the best. We have a power line and pipeline that cross, so I set up there. I had one bird gobble way of in the distance. Around 7:30 I heard one gobble in the woods next to me. He popped out about 100 yards away. I had a Jake and this bird coming in hot. I got a little anxious and shot to soon. he was about 50 yards out. Had to follow up with another shot. Going to give it a try again in the morning.
Well today is a day that we can all make a difference. I surely hope everyone takes the time to go out and vote. There are a lot of men and women that have sacraficed for us to have the right to a democracy.
Today i hope everyone remembers what has taken place over the last several years. Please dont listen to the last minute bull. The record of our current Senator has not represented us with our best intrest at heart. She only voted with her political party.
Please think long and hard before you vote. Remember everything she did. We can not take another 4 years of her. Plus Obuma is almost out of her. If that witch Hillary gets in office, and Landreau in senate again we are all screwed.
Me and a good freind went fishing friday morning, had our limit of reds before 9:00 on gold spoons. All caught in shallow dusk ponds. We actually caught them all in a very small area. We wen tscouting for crabs. i ended up cathching 3 dozen in 25 minutes. Saturday Took my wife and the kids crabbing. Caught a ice chest full by 8:45. Went back to ponds and fished 15 minutes. caught one more red. Tide was slacked, adn it was getting hot so we headed home.
Does anyone know which grain elevators you can pick up corn and soy beans from?
Made a trip Saturday. The trout bite was not that great. They seemed to be biting the bait short. We switched gear and started soaking shrimp. We watched a few guys on a point loading up. When they left, we moved in on the point, and started reeling in fish. We ended the day with 15 reds, 15 drum, 6 specks, and 1 flounder.
I'm planning a family vacation in July to Destin Fl. Im wondering if anyone knows a good charter captian there, and do the catch anyting there.
Well i been trying to learn a new area. Never really fished out of Dularge. I been reading all the repoorts so i figured it was time to learn. I did aske for some pointers, and thanks Capt Tommy Pelligrin for the pointers you gave on my post. I took your advice. I looked for decent water and Moving water. Saturday started out slow. I ended up soaking shrimp for a while figuring the trout just wasnt willing to participate. Around 9 or so the water started moving, and i notice some flash, and popping on the point. Picked up the shrimp, and threw a green hornet shad. The trout had turned on. We ended up with a decent box of fish. 27 trout, 2 drums, and 8 sheepshead. I'll take that everyday. Cant wait to get back out there again.
