Any dog owners that uses Purina products you may want to check your dog food really well. Yesterday my wife notice something in the dog food. Upon further inspection the somethings were moving. We started researching and found that Purina has an issue that has been going on for several months now. Lots of post from people who have food that is infested with Pantry Moths. I ended up spending almost 4 hours cleaning out pantry. I had to wipe all shelves and walls down. Pantry was full of them. Lots of cocoons, and larvae all over in corners and under shelves. They will get in any open dry foods. Cereal, rice, flour, crackers, Etc. I threw away two contract size garbage bags of food away, along with a rubber made container half full of dog food. It will not have along term effect on dogs, but it will give them severe diarrhea. Which two of our dogs have had the last couple of days. I would hate to think what we would have ended up with had we not caught it.

Started feeding protein feed and soy beans a year ago. I feel it is starting to make a difference. We typically shot 120 in deer. I think I might have a couple at 130 inch. I can't wait till Oct to get here.

So I am asking opinion of other people that have been in my shoes. I am struggling with making the decision to put Bear down. He is my chocolate lab. I have had him since he was 9 weeks old, He is 13 1/2 now. He was one of the best dogs I have ever had. This morning I found him on the living room floor in the split position un able to get up in a pile of poo. He is still eating good, but he is unable to do to much more than that. He doesn't want to go out any more. He goes out long enough to potty then he is at the door barking to come in. He never did that before. He also has gotten to where he leaves trails to poo. It is like he is unable to squat in one spot to poo. This sucks, just last year he tracked a deer, and retrieved a few birds.

So I finally bought a bay boat. Been shopping and saving for a while. I bought a 22' Blazer Bay. So I took some vacation days and weekend off and headed down to Cocodrie. We caught a lot of fish the last week. Every day except last Saturday was slow. As long as we had live shrimp we were catching fish. When the live bait ran out the bite was over. Fast forward to Wednesday the last day. We get home and start vacuum packing fish and cleaning the boats. My thumb started hurting and swelling some. Well I cleaned it good, and looked for shrimp sticker. Didn't find a sticker, I don't think it broke in there. I woke up yesterday and the swelling had moved to the palm of my hand. I came into work and it was bearable, but about 3 o clock my wrist started hurting. By the time I made it home my hand was not usable. I couldn't move any of my fingers or my wrist. So I went to Ochsner urgent care ( was a waist of time ) . I got home, and the pain got much worse, so I headed to Thibodaux Hospital. They actually looked at my hand unlike the other place. Gave me a couple of strong antibiotics, and some pain meds. This morning it feels better, still swollen and some pain, but no where as bad as yesterday.

Guys, stay on top of that crap, the water is warming up, and it doesn't take much to make something small as a shrimp sticking you to turn out bad. I will be putting some spray bottle with bleach in them in the boat this week.

Ok, so I have a question. After saving for quit a while I am ready to buy a boat. I actually found one a couple weeks ago, and negotiated a good deal, but then my issues started. I was planning to finance the boat through my credit union at work. I also called the local bank that I deal with in Houma. They are both telling me in order to get a boat loan now, you have to provide a copy of the titles for the Boat, Motor, & trailer. Issue is that these items weren't required a few years ago, and it seems that a lot of people don't have all these items. This morning I found the exact same boat just 2 years newer, but the same issue. The owner doesn't have all the titles. Anyone have any idea how to get around this or solve this problem?
Thanks

Well I don't think these Mississippi deer are used to this. Last time I saw this much snow I was working in Russia. I doubt they will move this morning, but it's pretty to see. Lots of noise in the woods with trees falling

Took my annual vacation for opening of bow season. The week started off extremely hot, and with winds bad for most of my hunting spots. We finally got a cool front, and the winds shifted. Monday afternoon I went to a spot I had been waiting to get into. The winds died down about 5:30, and at 6:00 I saw movement coming out of the thicket. I had 3 doe's come in at about 15 yards. Made the shot and watch the deer bolt off. Due to a previous bad experience. if I don't see them fall over. I back out and give them some time. I went to the camp and ate supper, got bear ready for a hopefully short tracking job, then went get ice. Headed to the property, and brought Bear to the spot of the shot. About 75 yards later I see Bear licking blood off the deer and the white belly. This will probably be his last year. He is getting up in age, he was wore out after the job. The grim reapers did a great job again. The deer weighed 113 lbs.

Anyone have a contact for bulk soybeans? I live in Houma, but could travel a reasonable distant if needed.

Hunted this morning and I saw a good bird, but he was far away, and wouldn't come in. They never gobbled this morning. I went get everything ready for tomorrow morning close to where he was. Decided to go sit on powerline behind camp. Did one good call sequence, and just sat back. Bird came in silent. I didn't even know he was there. I had to cough, and when I did, I saw something move. He tried to run, but I got on him quick, and rolled him. Hevi Shot is bad a**. Bird weighed 19 1/2 pounds, had 11' beard, and 1 1/4' spurs.

We hunted Saturday & Sunday. Stevie got his first turkey 17 pounds 8 1/2 in beard. He was super excited, and made a great shot. Bird hung up for over 45 minutes. Wouldn't come closer than 50 yards

April 07, 2015 at 8:21am

Spending some time at the camp this weekend. Planted summer food plots with iron clay peas. I also planted about 250 watermelon plants and 50 cantaloupe. Hunted yesterday morning and heard a few birds but didn't see anything. This morning I went back, and the birds were gobbling early. I had 2 jakes fly down on the pipeline, and came into to the decoys. A hen flew down with them, and they walked off. Still hearing a bird on the roost I waited. About 15 minutes later I called a little and had a gobble instantly. at first I thought it was one of the jakes. Sure enough bird walks out coming my way. When I looked good I realize it was a different bird. He wouldn't commit to decoys, but came close enough. I hit him the first shot and he took off, I shot him again as he tried to fly, then again for good measure. bird only weighed 17.5 pounds, had 9 1/2 inch beard and 1 1/4 in spurs

April 03, 2015 at 12:48pm

Made it to the camp yesterday afternoon. Tried to locate some birds, but didn't see anything. I went in blind this morning. I decided to get in the middle of the property and hope for the best. We have a power line and pipeline that cross, so I set up there. I had one bird gobble way of in the distance. Around 7:30 I heard one gobble in the woods next to me. He popped out about 100 yards away. I had a Jake and this bird coming in hot. I got a little anxious and shot to soon. he was about 50 yards out. Had to follow up with another shot. Going to give it a try again in the morning.

Well today is a day that we can all make a difference. I surely hope everyone takes the time to go out and vote. There are a lot of men and women that have sacraficed for us to have the right to a democracy.

Today i hope everyone remembers what has taken place over the last several years. Please dont listen to the last minute bull. The record of our current Senator has not represented us with our best intrest at heart. She only voted with her political party.

Please think long and hard before you vote. Remember everything she did. We can not take another 4 years of her. Plus Obuma is almost out of her. If that witch Hillary gets in office, and Landreau in senate again we are all screwed.

Me and a good freind went fishing friday morning, had our limit of reds before 9:00 on gold spoons. All caught in shallow dusk ponds. We actually caught them all in a very small area. We wen tscouting for crabs. i ended up cathching 3 dozen in 25 minutes. Saturday Took my wife and the kids crabbing. Caught a ice chest full by 8:45. Went back to ponds and fished 15 minutes. caught one more red. Tide was slacked, adn it was getting hot so we headed home.

Does anyone know which grain elevators you can pick up corn and soy beans from?

July 23, 2014 at 11:19am

Made a trip Saturday. The trout bite was not that great. They seemed to be biting the bait short. We switched gear and started soaking shrimp. We watched a few guys on a point loading up. When they left, we moved in on the point, and started reeling in fish. We ended the day with 15 reds, 15 drum, 6 specks, and 1 flounder.

I'm planning a family vacation in July to Destin Fl. Im wondering if anyone knows a good charter captian there, and do the catch anyting there.

April 22, 2014 at 11:54am

Well i been trying to learn a new area. Never really fished out of Dularge. I been reading all the repoorts so i figured it was time to learn. I did aske for some pointers, and thanks Capt Tommy Pelligrin for the pointers you gave on my post. I took your advice. I looked for decent water and Moving water. Saturday started out slow. I ended up soaking shrimp for a while figuring the trout just wasnt willing to participate. Around 9 or so the water started moving, and i notice some flash, and popping on the point. Picked up the shrimp, and threw a green hornet shad. The trout had turned on. We ended up with a decent box of fish. 27 trout, 2 drums, and 8 sheepshead. I'll take that everyday. Cant wait to get back out there again.

April 21, 2014 at 8:23am

Having grown up in Grand Caillou, just north of Dulac i fished primarilly in that area. Tomorrow we are planning to try the dularge area. For this time of year where would be a good place to start. We are thinking on heading to the north end of Lake Mechant. Other than tide movement and good clean water what signs should we be looking for, and are we thinking on the right track heading to lake Mechant right now?

Thanks for the help

April 11, 2014 at 7:54am

Wow, you all come on here and talk crap like this. Because I use live shrimp I don't know how to fish. Well I'd say you don't know crap. You come post on here like you did something. I see you post 2 and 3 fish at a time. It takes you 5 trips to get enough for a fish fry. Just cause someone else fishes different from you doesn't mean they don't know how to fish. Also your statement about people fishing next to you with live bait, and you out fishing them is bull. 99% of time, if you catching on artificial bait, and someone shows up with live shrimp, your game is over. I might not know how to fish cause I do use live bait, but my freezer is full, and I can't tell you the last time I came home with only 2 or 3 fish.

Ok, so first off they are all made in China. The only one still made in the USA is Advent, and you can't afford them. So go on ebay. search spinning reels. look to the left and click unbranded. You can get 4 for the price of one Shimano. I have two Shimano, and a Abu Garcia spinning reel, and I rarely use them. for trout and reds get the 4000 model. I am on year 3 right now, and have never had an issue with any of them. I have caught 100's of trout's, and countless bull reds on them, and they have held up. Another thing, my Shimano are starting to get corrosion on them. the China reels have none, and they get the same treatment. The last ones I ordered I got 4 of them for $ 62.00 with the shipping. They are a 12bb system, so they are very smooth.

So I too have property with pipelines and powerlines. I can tell you when you start talking anything past 400 yards it takes some one that has practiced a lot. I shoot a Browning A bolt 300WSM with 150 grain Barnes TXS bullet. It is very flat, and capable of reaching further than I can shoot it. I killed a deer at 317 yards last year with it. I did elevate for the shot, and was surprise that the bullet hadn't dropped as much as I thought it would. As said earlier a .243 is extremely flat. Problem is the bullet is light, and doesn't have the needed energy when you get way out there. 300 yards would be safe, I doubt 500 yards would be effective.

Go on Ebay, look at unbranded reels. I bought 4 spinning reels for 62.00 with the shipping. They are quality built and I have no complaints at all. I found some with 12 ball bearings. For a name brand with that you will pay over 100 bucks. When it breaks throw it away and order another one, and yes they are built in China, right where all the other ones are built. They just don't have the brand name stickers on them.

I have one I bought in September. I have had no issue at all with it. Runs really well, and has good power. Only issue I can see is it is loud, but a buddy has another brand 700, and he says it is also. I plan to add dust shield. When it is dry it is dusty in the cab. Other than that great machine at a way better price. Look for discount coupons from Tractor supply. I got one for 10% off, and they honored it.

luckily we found Bear late yesterday afternoon. He was actually still in the subdivision. Seems he went looking for love. He stayed the whole day laying next to a fence a few streets over where a female lab lives. I really thought he was gone. I have had him since he was 9 weeks old. he is truly a part of the family. Very glad we found him.

if you change nothing you will continue to get the same results. with you speed and KE you should be shooting fixed heads. I use grim reapers 1 3/4 inch heads. I get pass trhoughs as long as i hit where i should, but i can tell you if you hit to much bone nothing is going through. Im shooting gold tips 5575 at 321 fps, and they stop when they hit hard bone. I spined one last year, it dropped in its track, but the arrow only wen tin about 5 inchs.

Looks like you got your freezer full again this year. I'm ready for the season to open again already. Going to Miss this weekend to try for a turkey, then do some work on stands aand food plots. Might try to shot a hog if they showed back up.

A comment titled: Hogs in response to a report titled: LDWF SLAUGHTER FROM THE AIR

Well in Mississippi, if you are a land owner you can shoot them 365 days a year with what ever you want, and we cant keep up. I killed one this year, and had 6 piglets run up to it and start nursing while she laid dead. Once deer season closes and turkey season we can hunt them with bait. Problem is once you shoot a few they are gone again.

LSU as for the license, Mississippi is not giving anything away for free. You have to have a big game license to kill hogs. No one wants to pay for a weekend license to maybe see them. Last year i went every other weekend when i was off to check the property and killed almost every time. I ended up with 9 hogs last year.

A comment titled: Kill em all in response to a report titled: LDWF SLAUGHTER FROM THE AIR

Guys i have no dog in this race on PRWMA. I will tell you i own private property in Mississippi, and the hogs have done way more damage that some here want to admit possible. When we bought the property the deer heard was weak. We worked hard on planting, and limited our take each season. We finally got it to where we saw deer reagularly. We had so many Turkeys it was crazy. We would see as many as 70 to 80 turkeys a day. Then the hogs showed up. It was fun at first, and the meat is real good. Over teh next two season we see less and less deer. Then we start finding turkey nest raided and the eggs all eaten. This past season we killed 3 deer. Once we got the population up we would avwerage 9 to 10 a year. As for the turkeys, i seen the same group of 5 toms all season, and one group of hens and young jakes with about 12 or so, and that is it. As for hunting them and keeping them in control, once you start shooting them they leave, only to return once things calm down. I havent seen a hog in the last two months, but i can assure you they will be back in the next couple weeks in even larger numbers. They know once the pressure is on to go deep into the swamps where no one is going. I have a pipeline that is over a 1/2 mile long through my property. By May it will be routed up from one end to the other. Hogs will have an average of three liters a year. I killed two this year that was under 60 pounds and both had young with them. You can not shoot enough of them fast enough. I get pictures with as many as 25 at a time, and most of the females are pregnant all the time.
