Wondering if anyone has advice on best set up with spin cast equipment for fishing specs under birds. I was fishing the Cypremore Point Cove area with 'bait cast' equipment as I have always done in the past. I had made my cast shooting for distance as to not spook the fish by getting too close with the boat. Wind was blowing just a bit and I experienced several 'professional overruns' (lol). There were other fisherman fishing the same set of birds, but I noticed 2 guys had 'spin cast' setups with what looked like 7.5 ft rods. I just know those guys were casting a mile compared to my bait cast rig. They were hauling in specs on almost every cast as there corks were landing right on top of the fish
. If anyone has experience with spin cast set ups that they like, I'd appreciate some tips...I'm trying to find out line brand & size, spinning reel & rod details if possible. I tried to 'search' on this site, but was not successful. Thanks in advance for any helpful information.

Just a heads up for anyone heading out to Toledo Bend any time brother-in-laws sons and friends just called to let us know that all of the boats parked under the floating boat dock at Bridge Bay Resort were hit by theives last night. All rods, tackle or anything not tied down were stolen. Even heard where there was a boat missing. I had read recently where some of this stuff was going on. Just didn't think a lit up boat dock, with all of the people that stay there, could get hit without someone seeing something. I was planning on meeting those guys tomorrow morning, but they are all heading back home this morning, since they were staying at Bridge Bay and lost all of there gear. Watch your stuff...somebody out there want's it too.

Just trying to find out if anyone has had the opportunity to launch out of Rollover or Joseph's Harbor.....I would like to check it out tomorrow morning, but not sure if it's been opened up yet since Gustav. Now that Ike appears to be moving towards "Trout Death", it might be my chance to get out and catch a few fish on my day off. No offense Trout Death, but you are "Offensive"...especially with your "bird" post that showed our area as the target for Ike....Oh yea, if that was just your sense of humor....not funny !!!!!

Off my soapbox,

Just wondering....any word on Pecan Island..specifically, Joseph's Harbor Launch ??? I was looking to get out of the house tomorrow morning, but not quite sure yet where to launch??? I know before the storm, there was a restriction to limit launching at J Harbor on Sept 3rd before 10:00 because of alligator harvesting restrictions.......any information would be appreciated...........thanks !!!

I am sure some who blame IDA, but I know from personal experience that some of my family In Larose & Des Allemands have recouped...Was not easy, but they did it with family & GOD...So, believe what you want, but understand, we can not survive without family & friends & the big Guy. I agree with the last poster, something really wrong has happened with LAS Maybe the LAS business had sustained too much damage..I've been reading reports & bought magazine scrips since I move from Luling in 2002 & I really don't find much interest from fisherman reports that keeps my attention. Some are good but most are something I can Google. Thanks, Teddy J .

Wow, what a coincidence....I just received an email from CCA. They are offering a spin cast set up, CCA La Edition, Duce Rod combo with Shimano Sahara reel. Hummmmm ????

Since I own~ 20 bait cast rigs of varying age, I think 1 spin cast rig for starters would be good for me. Since I haven't priced any, I suppose I would start around $300.

Best Place to try cast net for shrimp in toward the back of Price Lake road. You will see a weir & new docking facility....& probably other cast netters & crabbers. Portalets there also. Crab on either side of Price Lake Road & cast net on right side of weirs. Moving water with tidal changes usually better results around the wiers.

Great shot. I've got a new 35 Whelen just itching to get me one of those hogs. They are good eating, but a nuisance to deer population in Toledo Bend.....the kids look proud of their daddy as well they should.

I moved from St Charles Parish 14 yrs ago. It was so good living there with fishing being so close. Had many memorable trips over the years. But, because of retirement etc etc yada yada, we moved to Maurice. Nice small town, with Lafayete college town feel and Abbeville just south of us with more big box stores & restaurants than we need. I did discover Pecan Island, Delcambre, Cypremont Point etc etc. took a while to figure out every thing, but when you can go on a trip and catch, crabs, shrimp, bass, trout, flounder, red's etc etc. It's a hard place to beat. you just need to learn it.

Fresh shrimp in Delcambre. If heading East from Abbeville towards Delcambre, on left side before Delcambre.

A comment titled: Thanks in response to a report titled: BOAT LANES

Thanks Leadfoot for marking those two stumps South of Slaughter Creek. I launched out of Cypress Bend Park early Sunday morning and was in that same boat lane just past the point and approaching the Creek when I hit one of those you marked. I was in my 17' aluminum flat and it shook the boat pretty good, but no damage. I didn't have anything to mark the spot but was planning on calling someone about it. I just got home from Toledo Bend a few minutes ago and read your post.

thanks again

With some experience, you can safely manage your boat with correct forward speed and pointing the bow into waves, depending on how much wind and wave size, BUT if you motor kills for any reason...good bye. It's all over....and that can cause major problems, even in a larger boat.

A comment titled: Ethanol in Gas in response to a report titled: Gas List Update & New Blogs

Not going to go into all the problems I've had with my 95 Merc since Ethanol in gas was initiated, but thanks Pete for sharing the information about where we can go to get Ethanol free gas for motors that don't run every day....and that is the key...if you don't run it frequently, it will eventually cause's not rocket science.

You are appreciated,

It is a shame that most 'action' regarding this Ethanol discussion happens because of individual and personal 'agenda', instead of 'We The People'.....sad stuff.
