I may be headed down to Delacroix this weekend to check out the St Bernard Seafood Market pilot program at the Delacroix Pier. While I am down there I was thinking about bringing a couple poles and dong some bank fishing? How is the bank fishing down on the Delacroix and/or Hopedale highways??
Also let me ask another question which I hope maybe one of the ole timers may know. My great uncle who taught my dad to fish, who passed on his passion and love of fishing to me had a camp on Hopedale highway. My great uncle died almost 35 years ago, I am trying to pinpoint the location of where his camp used to be - I know that it is gone after all these years. Anyway if anyone remembers Roger LeBreton who once had a camp on Hopedale Highway way back in the day please get in touch with me. Thanks and tight lines!!
I know that Tites place is no longer operating but I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of the boats that used to be rented from there. If anyone does please let me know.
Hey everyone, long story short - my dad used to take me and my brothers to Delacroix when we were kids, specifically we would go to Little Crevasse. Unfortunately my dad passed away this past August from Leukemia. The last time I went fishing (October 16, 2015 - I had three surgeries last year so I couldn't go at all in 2016) was also the last time he and I went fishing and was the first time since he had taken me to Delacroix that either one of us had been back and was our best trip ever, had no idea at the time it would be our last fishing trip together. There was one point in Little Crevasse where we hooked into a school of some pretty redfish, I named the spot 'Paw Paw's Point'. Next Thursday would have been dads 73rd birthday and I am taking my brothers and sister to Paw Paw's Point, my question is that this is mainly a trip to honor my dad and to spend so time together with each other - yet I want to come home with some fish!!! I don't need a boat load. So I am looking for some suggestions of spot in the area as backup plans. Pics are from my dad and I's last trip. Thanks.
Took off of work Friday (10/16/15). Great day in the beautiful marsh in Delacroix. launched at Sweetwater, great folks there!!!
Havent been to Delacroix since my dad took me 30+ years ago, this time I took him. First stop Pointe Fenne Bay, fished points and reefs, one flounder and two bass. Redfisherman were quite rude running past us on full plane - I understand you are fishing for $$$$ but still, a little courtesy on the water is appreciated.
Headed to Little Crevase - this is where my dad introduced me to fishing and my love for the sport has grown ever since - Thanks dad!!! Finished the day with the flounder and two bass and Little Crevase gave us two specs and 8 nice reds. Then there is the one that got away - see pic of leader clasp - had to be a big ole boy.
Havent been down to Delacroix in many a years. Curious about the best/safest route to Oak River area. IS it still Bayou Gentilly, thru Petite Lake, then hit the pipeline canal all the way to Oak River?
I have a 1996 Johnson 175 Ocean Runner, motor runs great however having issue with tilt and trim and I believe I am having a fuel leak. I notice fuel leak stains down the port side of the motor after I run it. I have read that its prob due to the carb needing to be rebuilt, it doesnt look that complicated to do, anyone done this, how did it go?
Also the trim / tilt motor isnt running, it was running intermittently and has since stopped. I replaced the relays but still not working. All that I am getting is the clicking from the relays when the up or down switches are pressed. I assume that this means power is getting to the relays at least. Going to try and run power directly to the trim motor this weekend to see if the motor works at all. If it works I will assume its a connection from the relay to the motor. If it doesnt run I guess that means the trim tilt motor is bad. Anyone replaced one of these before, I have heard different stories which some say you have to remove the whole motor from the boat and some say you can remove the trim assembly and replace the trim tilt motor that way.
Opinions / Advice???
I have a 1996 20' Hydra Sports Ocean Skiff and the same year Johnson Ocean Pro 175. I thought my ignition switch had gone bad. All other electrical components work fine. I changed the switch this morning with an OEM switch and I still get nothing. I am looking for ideas or maybe a place to take it to to have it looked at by a professional without having to wait forever or need a second mortgage, lol. Any ideas or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have a Garmin 541s, I would like to use it in my house to just learn how to use it. Is there a cable that I can purchase that will allow me to power it up in my home, or do I have to sit in my boat on my trailer in my driveway?
Bought used boat, motor and tandem axle trailer back in October. Loving it, however.... was told trailer had electric brakes and I saw the brake drums on the trailer when I bought it. After taking it out a few times I realized that the electric brakes were not working at all. Currently the trailer has brake drums on the front axle and what appears to be rusted out hydraulic lines. Trailer does not have a surge coupler. So after determining that the setup is over 3000# I realize legally I have to put brakes on this. My question is two fold. Electric or hydraulic surge brakes? Pros and Cons of each please. Also I am pretty handy and could install either system with little assistance. What am I looking at price wise for installation kits, and what would it cost me to have either one installed by a trailer shop. Was really looking forward to gettting out on the water soon but I dont want to risk it. Have purchased new tow vehicle with a 5000# tow rating and I estimate the setup to be about 3800# (boat, motor, trailer, full of fuel and gear) - dont want to screw up new vehicle brakes either. Thanks for your help.
Thinking about going out Friday maybe Trestles or to a few rigs in Lake Borgne. Just want to get out on the water and get some fish slime in the boat. Any ideas, suggestions, advice, bait ideas??? Thanks.
Thinking about heading out Sunday maybe to the Trestles, Rigolets, Lake St. Catherine area. I know there is a front coming thru Saturday. Any suggestions, just want to get that first fish in the 'new to me' boat. What about the rigs out of Lacombe?
Hello, I just purchased a Garmin 541s which came with the US Coastal maps and I am planning on getting either a BlueChart G2 or BlueChart G2 Vision map aslo as well as the HomePort software. I am interested in your Edge files for this unit. I will be mainly interested in the following areas and wanted to see which Edge files would give me the most 'bang for the buck' so to say: Lake Pontchartrain, Rigolets, Lake Borgne, Biloxi March, Hopedale, Delacroix, Bayou Bienvenue. Thanks.
Looking for ideas on where to take a trip for some freshwater cats, I am on the Northshore. I am thinking about the Tchefuncte?, maybe Manchac? Any Ideas????
Woo Hoo!!!!! I am once again a boat owner!!! Now I have GPS question. I am looking at three models and would like to get some opinions on them. All of these units come with transducers.

My main need is going to be for marsh fishing in the Hopedale/Delacroix/Lake Borgne areas. Probably at some point venture to areas like Venice, Grand Isle but not really offshore.
Thinking about going to Grand Isle this weekend and either camping on the beach in a tent at the state park or finding a cabin. Anyone camped on the beach at the state park? Also obviously I want to do some fishing (no boat). Looking for advice on best bets, fishing pier (fish from the pier or from beach and throw under pier?). What about along Hwy 1 (better between Port Fouchon and Grand Isle, or Leeville bridge and Port Fouchon)?
Quick question for you. I find that it is time for me to start looking for my boat. I have owned one in the past (bought it used)and this time I want new, or slightly used. What time of the year is the best time to get one from the dealers (meaning slow sales = lower prices). Also I am looking for a 19-21 ft center console with lots of seating so i can use it to play around with the family as well as fish so any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.
Hey guys (and gals), I am thinking about maybe heading down highway 1 this weekend for some bank fishing. Any ideas of suggestions I have never done this.
