How would you like to be in a box stand and have a bear mark its territory while you are in it? No one was in it but this bear really took a chunk out of a 4x4.

This is an older picture and is still one of my favorites.

I think you will be happy with that bow. If its is fun to shoot and it is a Mathews, what is going to beat that.

A comment titled: Location in response to a report titled: Swamp Ghost Bear

You can find these bears all up and down the Mississippi River Basin and they are expanding east and west. This one is in Pointe Coupee in the Morganza Floodway. There are a lot more than just this one. You should try walking into the woods while it is dark with only a bow in hand.

A comment titled: Yes in response to a report titled: Infared Scouting Camera

I have had a camera with the IR nodes for years and you will get pictures of the deer looking at it. I can even see it glow at night. The IR camera's with the "welder's type" lens covers can also be seen at night when it flashes. So if a human can see it so can the deer. What we don't see is the illumnation from the flash or the IR nodes. I had 2 cameras 90 degrees to each other and you could see the flash from the other one on the video. It was like lightning. The deer had no reaction to the IR flash.

I hope these are numbered so you can show each one next to its kill. Maybe we will see the missing numbers on the uh misses. hehehehehe No pressure!

A comment titled: Flash Cameras in response to a report titled: Swamp Ghost on Duty

I guess some deer are not flash camera shy but over the past several years I have noticed the deer that are one time only flashers and there are a lot of them. I see the same deer repeatedly in IR pics. Just my $.02.
I had one test going in Jan and Feb with two feeders 60 yards apart one with a flash camera and one with an IR camera. The results were very noticable. Deer ate at the IR feeder and did not eat at the flash feeder. The flash feeder made some happy racoons. Darn them!

Harvest some of those weed seeds and I'll be one of those SOBs that will pay $35 a bag for it. LOL That is a great picture. That is all you would have to put on the outside of the bag.

A comment titled: Targets in response to a report titled: Look what you made me do Widowmaker

I found those at Spillway Sportsman. You get like 5 for $5 or something like that. Something different to shoot at. I just tape them to the blocks.

Yeah I hate to shoot groups as I end up tearing up some good arrows. Mostly just fletching.

I don't practice past 40 yards. That sure seems far enough for me.

A comment titled: Number of Bears in response to a report titled: SWAMP GHOST IR Camera

I think they had a good estimate 10 years ago when I ran into my first one with a radio collar. A few years later that estimate of 40 in the Morganza Floodway grew to about 120. Now it has to be 200+. The state's estimate that I have seen published only procaims about 500. Hooyey!
The farmer next to me has had as many as 11 out in his wheat field out night. The deer used to be spooked from them, now trail cams take pictures of bears and deer in the same food plot.

Pointe Coupee Parish

I think the WLF estimate on the number of bears in La. is low.
When will we have a bow season on bears is what I want to know. I'll even take my chances on a lottery hunt for a bear with bow in La.

A comment titled: SB XT in response to a report titled: NEW BOW CONFUSSION

Hey WM,
Your passion made me take the XT challege and I have not looked back. Don't leave Mathews as you won't be disappointed with either the Drenilan or XT. My XT is so smooth I shoot all the time now. I like the shorter bow with less recoil. What's a 1/2 pound for a real man? I would take either one but I can't buy a new bow everytime one comes out. Sure is tempting though.
