I've never hunted/fished this area before and I'm planning a cast and blast camping trip for November. I like to explore new areas and I'm mostly concerned about the camping situation. Do a lot of people use the campground? What would be the best route to get there?? Launch at Campos and ride the lakeshore?? Any info is appreciated!!
I'm considering buying an Excel bay boat, 1860cc and wondering how they ride/handle. Any input???
I'm looking for help finding my pirogue. We were at the camp on Couba Island this weekend and I think it may have come untied and drifted off with the wind. It was there Sunday and gone Monday. The wind was from the southeast so if it did drift away then it would be somewhere around the Tank Pond or the west side of Cataouatche. I'm trying to remain optimistic and hope someone didn't steal it. Any info is appreciated, thanks.

Other than Calumet, where can I launch to get to Wax? My camp is about 11-13 feet high from the water. It would be impossible for me to launch at Calumet due to the slope in the road up the levee. Thanks
How are the teal at the wax during teal season? We always kill lots of teal during the duck season but have never been able to make a trip during September.
I'm close to buying this generator for $650 brand new out the box with 2yr warranty. Does anyone else have one and are you pleased with it? I'll be using mine for a small houseboat to power a window unit a/c and maybe a tv/radio and small appliances (not all at the same time). If you have any experiences with this generator, good or bad, please post. Thanks.
I'm looking around for info on handheld vhf radio vs dash mount. Do they get about the same reception? How do they compare? For use in my houseboat from lake Salvador to Wax Lake.
Another cool front coming down just in time for the weekend should get those birds moving and keep the mosquitos away. Going back to the curve for the close. Anybody killing birds during the week back there? Going regardless. If no birds I'll check the field or Gulf canal. Will post. Hunt safe
Hunted "the curve" Sat. Killed two limits by 8:30 with only one loss to the cutgrass. Gators kept trying to eat our dekes. Great weather and little winds kept the skeeters and gnats off. Anyone hunt the field or gulf canal? Please post.
Water is still pretty warm. Not enough cold weather to kick things off.
What night was it you caught em? Just trying to develop a pattern with the weather. I caught 4 monday afternoon and 17 tuesday morning.
Thanks, I'll keep looking
Year old black female named her "Cheramie's Cypress Bayou", Cypress for short.
Should be clear. If not, there's ways around it. Whiskey canal, Bayou segnette to Bay Badeaux, Bayou Couba from Salvadore.
You talkin about Salvadore?
Where can I find one like that?
Is there any word on the numbers in north La? Upper Ouachita? Russel Sage? Or is this survey mainly southern and coastal La?
It looks like a spoonbill catfish. If it is then be careful, I think they're on the endangered species list.
Seems like either one would be fine. Northbend might be a little closer to the fourway, but Berwick is closer to where I'm coming from and who doesn't mind a little longer ride inda houseboat. Thanks for the comments and we'll see you guys at the WAX. CAN'T FRIGGIN WAIT.

Thanks for the comment, I see the launch south of berwick but I'm not sure I see the launch at centerville. Looking at the map is it just northwest of ccc northbend off the levee road?
Duck commander makes one that sounds good. You can buy on from their website for around $20.
Good advice, I did look back here at the old reports from last sept. and saw some fairly good reports from duckman and others that posted reports. That's what's great about this site, sharing information. I learned alot. Thanks.
I'm just curious about the amount of birds down there that early in the year. I can still hunt with heat and people. Can't hunt without birds.
I described that same problem to the service guy at duvic's boats when my 27hp s/d was about 1 year old. He said it was the PCV valve. It took a while to get it back due to how busy they were after Katrina, but it has ran fine ever since. Always ceck fuel filter and line for ant restrictions and keep a spare filter with you.
Thanks for the comments guys, you were very helpful in making my decision. I think it's better to have a little bit more then you need rather than not enough. If you hunt the Wax, you know that the weather can change fast and get real ugly. Thanks. Will be shopping soon for a dash mount VHF.
Beshels is open it's $6 for backdown launch. Bring cash.
Nice stringer. Is that area all leased or is there any public land? I have a lease in point a la hache but no where near as productive as our friends to the north. We saw very few birds sunday and managed to take four greys. I'm always interested in a lease, email if you have any info. Keep Wacken em. Merry Christmas
That's what it's all about bro. Family and the outdoors. Keep that drag singing.
Thanks guys, really good advice. Yes, I plan on fishing/scouting the area as much as possible before I hunt it. I'm using an 1860 cc Alumacraft w/ a 90hp. Pirogue hunting w/ my dog. I understand what you're saying about the wind/tide and how the wind wins that battle when coming out of certain directions. Looking at maps, I plan on parking the big boat at the entrance to a long winding trenasse, then paddle to small pond or pothole. With the excellent fishing, I expect there to be boat traffic. Thanks again guys
