Has anyone been fishing the rigs yet? How is it looking so far?
I bought a boat used.... that was mistake 1. But I have a feeling the motor (2006 merc optimax 20inch shaft) might be too short. I was not able to plane out so I upgraded the 6inch jackplate for a 10inch. At plane I'm shooting a big tail. I have to bring the motor down since I found the cav plate is about 1 inch above water at plane. But now my hydraulic ram is getting pinched when trimming full up for stow. What kind of hull is this and how do I measure it.
Anyone in the new orleans area have a mercury diag machine. Getting some engine faults and looking to have the chip read. If so let me know how much I would need to throw your way to make it happen.
Looking to go out fishing this weekend. Haven't been since mid November. Any reports anyone can give me. Tossing between hopedale, Sweetwater, or lafiette. Anyone been fishing these areas lately? I know the spots in each area just trying to get activity reports.
Just for the fun me and a couple buddies went to Grand Isle to do some bank fishing for a change. All 3 of us limited within a couple hours. Saturday we fished about 10am off the bridge at the main canal and were done about noon. Sunday was just as good but we fished from 10 till 3. Since they were hitting so good we only kept 20+ inch reds. If we were to keep anything over 16 we would have have been done in about 2 hours again. Many people out there fishing with the same great luck fishing bottom with dead shrimp. A couple people were playing with plastics but was only getting 1 hit for every 5 I had with shrimp. Just be aware of the passing cars. Many times we had trucks passing at 45+ mph like idiots.
Anyone know where me and a buddy can get on some sharks. Working with a 21ft boat so not looking to go too far out. Anywhere from grand Isle to Biloxi marsh is where we are looking. Any info would be great.
This is my first year fishing inshore. I know these fronts tend to make specs migrate more. Can anyone explain a little as to what to expect with this front and lower temps on fish biting or migration? Mainly the delaroix, hopedale and lafiette areas? Plan to fish on tuesday next week but have a feeling old spots might not be as good. Trying to learn so please educate me.
Let's see some pics and hear some stories of fishing trips. We all see the charters post so let's hear from individuals. Me and my buddy went down to venice Thursday just to poke around and see what was out there. We never fish there so we gave it a shot. Talked to some guys at the docks and they gave us a wide area to check out. 5 hours later we end up with 43 specks from 1.5 to 3 lbs each. 10 reds, 20 white trout and 15 channel cat. It was windy as can be but ended up being a good day.
Going to grand isle this Thursday for a fishing trip. Never fished there. Any tips on where to go. Not looking for exact spots but a general area would be nice. Unless someone wants to help a fellow fisherman out with some exact spots?? Lol. Any help would be nice.
Currently using a couple Abu Garcia spinning reel. They don't seem to perform well when pole is under tension. I am used to catfishing up north before moving here so I used ambassador series reels. ANYWAY I'm looking for personal reviews on reels. I would like to stay around 60-70 for a reel but I'm flexible. I've heard about the Penn clash but woud like to stay under 100. Any advise fellow anglers?
Note: this page is flooded with advertisements. Can we get back to answering and helping out others?
Just to disclose. I am asking this not to try to get away with anything I shouldn't i am just trying to understand this.
This was taken from an article from the wildlife and fisheries. I was trying to find out if there was a daily boat limit and came across this. what do they mean about twice the bag limit on land....
'The daily bag limit for speckled trout is 25 per person for the Lake Pontchartrain area. The possession limit of spotted trout is twice the daily bag limit on land, however no person shall be in possession of trout over the daily bag limit in any one day or while fishing or out on the water. '
Ive never fished for sharks before and would like go try to hook on to some. I only have a bass boat so I will obviously have to fish from land. Does anyone know the time of year and places to go to get into some action? I live in Marrero. So the closer the better.
Me and a buddy are going out Thursday looking for some trout. Hoping to go to hopedale, Are trout still running in these areas? Are they still hitting at the rocks near Eloi Bay? Any help would be great.
I never see any posts about port sulphur, buras or Venice. Looking to try this area for my first time. Anyone been doing any good in there areas and any tips for some redfish?
So I just picked up the standardmaps SD card. Played around a bit with it and it's kinda hard to read. I got the professional (top line) one. Is there a map legend anywhere online. Just some things idk. For example on the edge of a marsh there are tons of pink x looking things. And how do you determine the oyster bed walls. It just shows huge lease areas. Any info would be great.
I plan to start fishing between hopedale and delacroix more often. I don't have a trolling motor or a depth finder. I'm able buy one of the two. Kinda stuck on my decision of when would be more useful. I plan to eventually get both but for now which do y'all recommend I get???
I have been being told by buddy of mine to go check out Hopedale area. But I read a alot about sweetwater. Im going on a fishing trip tomorrow and know very little about either place. Im fishing with a 18ft aluminum and have a push pole so shallows are not a problem. Which one should I try? Any advice or spots I should try?
I just relocated to Marrero, La from western LA. Looking to do a fishing trip with some family coming down at the end of the month but I have no clue where to start down here. Anyone willing to give me some advice on some spots?
