Hey Goldhunter, heard you bought a Nova, what made you choose that particular gun over other pumps? Does it have a dependable reputation in the field?

hunted in the Sweet Lake area with Grosse Savanne Lodge this morning, very few ducks moving, no wind appeared to affect movement of birds, but managed two limits, great place to hunt...

it can be confusing, the ducks move south to avoid cold weather and find food. if it warms up, then they move north? you would think that they would like the milder temp. and stay put.....my question would be, why do they move north? is it really warmer weather or some other reason?

everything i've read regarding the comments about mallards leans towards fewer mallards in La., i can also attest to that, i've had a lease in the Basin for 37 years. early on we had all the mallards we wanted along with wood ducks. No decoys, just using the right kind of call. i was amazing at the number of ducks that would come down on the call. the weather really didn't matter that much, but clear blue days were really good. we had three flights, one early, another at about 9:00 and again at about 11:00. then of course they came in late to roost also....in the past 10 years we have not had hardly any mallards. some of it was due to a lack of water because of low water in the Atchafalaya. last year we had good water levels, but no mallards just woodies.....the reason is not clear to me about the lack of mallards, but i guess its a combination of all the reasons i've heard

all that is said by all the comments absolutely solves nothing. public hunting means exactly what it says, "public" anger doesn't work, it only causes more anger. find a spot, load up and start calling, you'll enjoy the hunt much more

lost lake was one of the most pristine lakes around here, it offered great bass fishing, especially fishing the root system of the cypress trees. if you knew the bayous that ran thru the lake, you could fish the deeper water in the summer. It wasnt' heavily fished. When the river was down, it took an effort to pull over about 1/4 mile. But, the flood of 1973 added about 3 ft of silt and it remains today, so its now a shallow lake.
