Depends on how much money you want to spend on the scope, you need one with quick adjust turrents(wind and elevation knobs)

Another St. Helena Parish Tom. Sunday the 25th we step out the camp and hear this tom gobbler sounding off about 300 yards from the camp. I close the distance and start calling him and he answers with a crow everytime. we do this back and forth for several hours and he never moves. I start getting impatient and low crawl towards him and wait. Low crawl again and wait. I call more, finally i give in and start calling loud and agressive and he flies right on top of me and lands. This guy never leaves the roost until 930am wow. 25lb plus bird with 9 and 3/4 inch beard. Good bird.

In St. Helena Parish at my buds came off the Tickfall river. Have done some turkey hunting in the past but never have killed a gobbler. Me and my buddy called and tracked arcross 800 acres and nothing but a few hens until 9 am so we stop and sat on a log looking down a fire break and rested. My buddy started on his smart phone and I drink water and wondered what we did wrong? My bud look over and said man you need to talk sexy to those hens, you need to pur more and louder. So I started practicing and calling up a storm. 5 minutes pass and a gobbler comes within 10 years clucking. I turn and shot him no joke???? He never gobbled, just click and pur.

Gobblers starting to hang out together. Heard one crow on thanksgiving morning. Have seen a healthy population in our hunting lease this deer season. Can't wait!!!! Do most people make a blind and hunt or do they try to get as close to the roosting spot??????

Basically you had does come into heat at a certain time. Some did not get bred and have come back into heat. Some people give up hunting after the rut, but they forget the secondary rut!

We have a club in Sieper, in the forks of the Calcasieu river and Sieper Creek. Our numbers are up this year, but more attempts. How many acres do you hunt? Members and what is the average killed and seen? Does verses bucks.

A comment titled: Respect others in response to a report titled: dog hunting trespassers

I will say that I believe that every type of hunter should have a set season. If you go down the road of one type of hunter should be banned then you fall into the trap of one day it may come to your preference of hunting next on the list. That being said, we all have set rules and if you break them, then you should pay the price. It upsets you that the hunter is on your land and I understand. Maybe someone will figure out who they are so you can approach them and come to a understanding. If not then their is always legal action.

A comment titled: Recoil in response to a report titled: Primitive Firearm

45-70, .444, .35 wheelen. All have a good bit of recoil. If you choose one I would get a lamb saver for the buttstock to asborb some recoil. They are all good weapons. They main question is the ability and confidence in shooting the weapon. If the shooter is scared to shoot it after firing it, then it doesn't matter. Remember a crack barrel, single shot shotgun with a slug is considered a primitive weapon as well. 410 guage and up. Also my nephew shoots a .357 rifle that has less recoil. Many options , I suggested finding some friends with some of these weapons and get some practice in with them. But nothing spoils a young shooter than bad recoil.

A comment titled: Food Plots in response to a report titled: Food plots

If you have access to a tractor and disc, in the spring I would disc it and put out lime and 13-13-13. Milo and millett and soy beans are the best.
Winter mix would be winter peas, oaks and turnips and mustard greens. Ask your farm co-op the correct amount of seed per acre and fertilizer. An acre is roughly 220 wide by 220 deep.

A comment titled: hornady 180 Grain in response to a report titled: CVA EILTE STALKER 35 WHELEN

Have the exact same weapon. Stainless steel barrel and exact scope. Here is what I find weird. At 50 yards I was shooting high and lots of recoil. I added a lamb saver, awsome now. moved back to the 100 I was shooting to high and dailed it in the black! Moved back to the 50 and in the black as well????? Go figure. Going to she what see does at 200 yards later this week. Keep in mind 180 grain Hornady. I get good groups. I'll post later.

A comment titled: Small but beautiful duck in response to a report titled: Mexican whislers

They both belong to the perching duck family, like wood ducks. Fulvous whistling ducks are slighty larger than the Rosy Billed or black bellied species. Great ducks, but like several other species can make it tough on the rice farmers, but so can others. They have always been here just in smaller numbers here and there. Just like insect populations up and down.

A comment titled: Crowing turkey in response to a report titled: pics

I have seen a total of 5 gobblers on our hunting club this past deer season, but I am sure one of them is the big gobbler that is dominant. This is not far from kisatchie. Kisatchie has a very good turkey population. Can't wait to work these gobblers!!!!!
