New To Sportsman Network?

Does anyone have or know anyone wanting to sell a camp in the Saline (Dewey Wills WMA) area, preferably Mound Bayou? I'm looking to purchase a camp. I know that there's one for sale for $70 thousand, but thats way more than I want to spend.

Does anyone have an update on the crossbow and .45-70 proposals?

May 24, 2008 at 8:29am

I'm planning on having a crawfish/crab boil this Saturday for the family. Does anyone have a contact number for someone selling crabs in either the BR or Lafayette areas? Also, what are they going for?

Thanks

My son participated in the Lake Ophelia Youth Lottery Hunt on Dec. 22. He killed his first deer and seven (7) hogs. He was so exicted and I was so proud. This will be a day we'll never forget and I'm glad we shared. This is what its all about!

Does anyone know the name and have the phone #'s for the campgrounds closest to the Sharkey check station in Tensas. I know there are 2 there, 1 primitive and 1 with hook-ups. Also what is the cost per person/night?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I want to take my oldest son hunting on Thanksgiving weekend, which place has the least amount of pressure Red River or Three Rivers?

I know that both are hunted hard on this weekend.

Just dropped mine off at UPS this morning to ship back to Remington for repairs. I bought it for my son last December and he squirrel hunted with it two times. He took it out for opening weekend of dove season and after firing his first shot, tried to move the slide back to eject the shell and it got stuck.

I eventually got it to cycle, but it is extremely hard to 'pump', not smooth like the 870's are. I hope that when it returns, its alot smoother.

Good hearing from you. We've surpassed the midpoint of this tour. All of the guys are doing a good job. Getting really hot and dusty. Can't wait to get in a deerstand and feel that northwind in my face.

Any help with finding a camp or land around there is appreciated. Take Care.

I bought the wired version from Lowes. It's a pain to put in, but I like it. I was able to protect my wife's flower beds and put the dog where I wanted her to stay. The collar that came with the kit must have been for small dogs (I have a golden retriever) and only worked for a while; she got used to the shock. I went back and purchased a more powerful one that has 5 control levels. She has only left the boundary once. I have neighbors with cats, goats and all other animals that come close to the line and she never crosses. It's well worth the money and pain in the A$$ to put in.

Just a reminder, tournament this weekend, bring the kids, there will be a rock wall for them to climb. Also, there will be a food stand selling burgers, drinks, jambalaya etc.

Fun for all.

I won't be camping, but we'll be out there on Friday setting up, and we usually cook a big jambalaya for everyone that helps. We might even drink a few cold ones.

As far as the Jeffery tying knots, why don't you challenge him to a knot tying contest?

A comment titled: management in response to a report titled: Lay em down rincon

I pulled up the regs online and did a pdf search; I found nothing stating that you couldn't transport more than 1 deer in a vehicle at one time. I might have missed it, if I did let me know what page its on.

I'm all for management, but the only way it will work is if everyone involved participates. LDWF is in no way trying to manage the deer herd in our part of the state. They added an extra doe day to Pomme de Terre, Grassy Lake and Spring Bayou. Anyone who has every hunted these places knows that you will never be run over by a herd of deer. So why the extra doe day.

LDWF states that I can shoot a doe and a buck on certain WMA on either sex days. Why should I let a doe go after shooting a buck if #1 its legal, #2 the orange vest 50 yards from me will, if I don't.

I asked a game warden about the extra doe day and he advised that license sales were down and with less people hunting, LDWF were doing anything just to increase revenue.

I had a club the last 3 years and tried to manage the herd. All members were on board, but we had locals who snuck in during the week and shot our deer. We would return on the weekends and have to drive past deer carcasses enroute to our camping area.

It won't work unless LDWF and all hunters want it too.

HELLUVA Kill, as you know, I also hunted Lake Ophelia this weekend. I checked my 5 pt. out at noon on Saturday and my deer was the 7th one that was checked out. I contacted the Refuge Headquarters yesterday and found out that 31 deer were killed with the 5 pt being the largest.

I did my scouting on the Sunday before and also spoke with two Game Wardens out there. They stated that the rut was about over and that the deer probably wouldn't move on our hunt weekend. They were right, the deer didn't move. 180 Hunters checked in on Saturday not sure about Sunday and only 31 killed.

I go into this hunt with the intent of killing a trophy, but sometimes it doesn't work out. With only 31 deer killed, DOE MEAT IS BETTER THAN NO MEAT!!!
